Instituído em 2020, o Museu Têxtil, se propõe a promover o intercâmbio

cultural e artístico entre o Brasil e outros países, para mostrar acima de tudo a

universalidade dos conceitos e expressões de arte presentes nas pesquisas,

técnicas e estilos que são apresentados por Artistas Têxteis, de Técnicas Mistas e

Artes Dimensionais.

Nossa proposta é divulgar o trabalho de artistas que utilizam

estratégias têxteis como suporte em suas criações. Além disso, pretendemos

fomentar um ambiente de pesquisa, produção e exposição dessa manifestação

cultural e forma de expressão artística.

Sendo a arte um casamento entre o real e o utópico, o Museu Têxtil

intenciona expor, por meio da enfática retórica autorreferencial de artistas de

diferentes culturas, os alicerces que estruturam suas pesquisas artísticas

investigando o significado representacional pelo qual o artista usa os sentidos e

fala aos sentidos para aludir um mundo físico tangível a qual nos estabelecemos.

Established in 2020, the Museu Têxtil aims to promote cultural and

artistic exchange between Brazil and other nations, to show primarly the

universality of concepts and expressions of art present in research, techniques and

styles that are presented by Textile Artists, Mixed Techniques and Dimensional Arts.

Our focus is to promote the work of artists who use textile strategies as

support in their creations. In addition, our intention is to foster an environment of

research, production and exhibition of this cultural manifestation and form of

artistic expression.

Since art is a marriage between the real and the utopian, the Museu

Têxtil seeks to exhibit, through the emphatic self-referential rhetoric of artists from

different cultures and background, the foundations that structure their artistic

research by investigating the representative meaning by which the artist uses the

senses and refers to the senses of alluding a tangible physical world to which we

are established.

A imaginação do artista sempre estará presente na forma e na

técnica que este utiliza para organizar tudo aquilo que compõe uma obra de

arte. Seja na metodologia abordada para manipular os elementos do seu lúdico

envolvimento com o mundo, como na poética com que este criativamente

edifica o objeto fruto de seu desejo; o artista busca um diálogo puro e direto com

o desconhecido. Este pode ser traduzido como a identidade idealizada

resultante de sua própria reflexão sobre tudo aquilo que o cerca, fazendo-se

existir entre o incompreensível coletivo que o mesmo narra como sendo real e

fictício.

A exibição, “Contrastes de Forma”, não apenas, discursa sobre esta

dinâmica, mas também nos ajuda a entender que em plena tentativa do artista

de se tornar independente de toda a relação com as narrativas de sua realidade

visual e de empenhar-se em compreender que a arte não tem nada a ver com a

imitação do mundo, mas que a obra de arte pretende nos ajudar a conviver

pacificamente com este; surge então, desta experiência, a forma. Revestimento

que envolve uma matéria invisível preenchida de ideologias e sentimentos

ocultos, impulso que advém da experimentação e observação de própria

autoria.

Este artefato que nasce da fusão do que o artista observa e daquilo

que experiencia, carrega consigo o conteúdo que em sua essência é na

verdade a fuga da incompreensível realidade, inventada pelo homem para

escapar de sua particular necessidade de coexistir, expandindo assim nossa

percepção do que somos e do mundo que a nós foi emprestado.

Os artistas têxteis presentes nesta exposição, por consequência,

apresentam ao observador subjetivamente que para toda a interpretação que a

forma venha a ter, teremos que vivenciar o que estiver implícito em seu

significado e que este envoltório que materializa a leitura que temos de nossa

própria identidade em objeto de arte é, na verdade, uma abordagem

alternativa para tudo aquilo que representa o homem e seu mundo, que

convencionamos designar por recortes imagéticos com base em nossas

escolhas, constituídos por um conjunto de conhecimentos que em comum já

possuíam comunicação.

Os 23 (vinte e três) trabalhos de arte têxtil e mista selecionados para a

exibição, “Contrastes de Forma”, e idealizados por artistas de 10 (dez)

nacionalidades com culturas distintas elucidam, não somente, a própria

espontaneidade do ser humano em manipular os elementos do mundo, porém,

mais uma vez, faz-nos refletir sobre a necessidade de edificarmos nossos desejos

e de repensarmos sobre tudo aquilo que nos cerca. Seja através de narrativas de

cenas reais ou fictícias, quando oferecido pelo artista, o objeto artístico ganha

vida ao ser observado e manipulado criativamente em nosso imaginário.

The artist's imagination will always be present in the form and technique

they use to organize everything that makes up a work of art. Be it in the

methodology approached to manipulate the elements of their playful

involvement with the world, or in the poetics in which it creatively builds the object

fruit of their desire; the artist seeks a pure and direct dialogue with the unknown.

This can be translated as the idealized identity resulting from the artist's own

reflection on all that surrounds them, making them exist between the collective

incomprehensible that the same narrates as being real and fictitious.

The exhibition, "Contrasting Shapes", not only discusses this dynamic, but

also helps us to understand that in the artist's attempt to become independent of

all the relationship with the narratives of their visual reality and to commit to

understand that art has nothing to do with imitating the world, but that the work of

art intends to help us live peacefully with it; then, from this experience, form

emerges. A layer that involves an invisible matter filled with hidden ideologies and

feelings, an impulse that comes from experimentation and observation of one's

own authorship.

This artifact that is born from the fusion of what the artist observes and

what they experience, carries with it the content that in its essence is actually the

escape from the incomprehensible reality, invented by man to escape from his

particular need to coexist, thus expanding our perception of who we are and of

the world that has been lent to us.

The textile artists present in this exhibition, therefore, subjectively present

to the observer that for any interpretation that the form may have, we will have to

experience what is implicit in their meaning and that this envelopment that

materializes the reading we have of our own identity as an art object is, in fact, an

alternative approach to everything that represents man and his world, which we

conventionally designate as imagetic cutouts based on our choices, consisting of

common knowledge communication.

Nasceu em 1982 em Santa Rosa/RS, Brasil

- Trabalha em León/Gto, México

Tenho bacharelado em Desenho e Plástica,

Licenciatura em Arte Educação e

Mestrado em Educação, todos pela Universidade

Federal de Santa Maria/RS.

Doutorado em Ciências Sociais com ênfase

em Antropologia por CIESAS-

Occidente (Guadalajara/México). Trabalho

na Universidad de Guanajuato e me

divido entre a docência e a pesquisa

com a linguagem têxtil, especialmente,

esculturas, instalações e objetos sensoriais.

Os temas de interesse giram em torno da

natureza: flora e fauna do Brasil e México;

corpo e identidade; memórias e práticas

artesanais. Participei de exposições individuais,

e também de coletivas no Brasil,

Chile, México, Porto Rico, Romênia, Ucrânia

e Estados Unidos. Recebi uma menção

honrosa na FiBRA - I Bienal de Arte

Têxtil (Porto Alegre/RS/Brasil, 2019) e realizei

uma residência artística no Proyecto

ACE/Argentina (2020).

Marie Pourchot

France

Born in 1977, Alès, France - Works in Montpellier,

France

Originally a painter, I diversified my artistic

practice after completing a master's degree

in ethnology. Attracted by anthropological

debates, art and crafts, I directed

my ideas and work towards mixed media,

textiles and anthropology. After training in

embroidery, plumasserie and pattern

making, textiles became my main means

of expression, working mainly with embroidery

(embroidery with crochet of Luneville),

linocut and paint. I love colour and

define my work as a "maximalist". This saturation

of colours and information is my

characteristic style allowing me to connect

with the viewer and inspire contemplation.

This excess of colour represents

the complexity of human psychology; perceived,

interpretable and interpreted in

various ways. I seek to catch the eye, to

challenge and generate questions. I want

to create links between the past and the

present, between various subjects and

techniques, and between disciplines. My

work interrogates and defines the expression

of our collective and individual imagination,

our interactions, our intentions, our

perceptions, our identities and our emotions.

It is my representation of the world

with its varied palette of human emotions,

moving and intertwined with each other.

Andrea Myers's work has been exhibited

nationally and internationally including the

Art Center, Evanston Art Center, Toledo

Zevitas Gallery, Fiber Arts International, the

Columbus Museum of Art, and coGalleries

(Berlin, Germany), the Textil und Rennsport

Museum, Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany

and the Haggerty Gallery, University of

Dallas. She has participated in residencies

at Ox-Bow in Saugatuck, MI, A Studio in

the Woods, a program of Tulane University

in New Orleans, Fortress Man Textile Symposium

in Daugavpils, Latvia, the Textile

Art Center in New York City, the Studios at

MassMoCA and in 2018 traveled to Dresden,

Germany for two months as part of

the Greater Columbus Arts Council artist

exchange program. Recent publications

include TimeOut Chicago, the Boston

Globe, New American Paintings, the Columbus

Dispatch, and Cut Me Up Magazine

issue 5. Andrea was one of five 2011

Efroymson Fellowship recipients, receiving

$20,000, and has also been awarded

artist’s grants from the City of Chicago,

the Ohio Arts Council and the Greater Columbus

Arts Council. She has works in the

collections of Chase Bank, Capital One,

Dayton Metro Libraries and Facebook offices

in Chicago. She is represented by

Hammond Harkins Gallery in Columbus,

OH, GUT Gallery in Dallas, TX, McCormick

Gallery in Chicago, IL and Galerie Klaus

Braun in Stuttgart, Germany. Currently Andrea

is Visiting Professor of Sculpture at

Kenyon College in Gambier, OH.

Natsuko Hattori

Tsukuba university art and design, Japan

Born in 1987 in Fukuoka, Japan - Works in

NY, USA

Natsuko Hattori was born in Fukuoka, Japan.

Her works were exhibited two times

at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Also

the Wall Street Journal building, First Street

Gallery, Chashima Gallery, Waterfall Gallery,

Porter Contemporary and other over

80 exhibitions. Also held in US cities other

than New York, Europe and Japan. She

has received many awards and grants

including winning the Aoki Shigeru Memorial

Grand Prix Award thrice. Since 2014,

she has been holding a performance titled

“Dancer in MocoMoco”, and works

on spatial art by dance, music, video and

photography. In 2019, her works were exhibited

in the “Reiwa” bookkeeping hall of

the Japanese Consulate General in Japan.

In 2020, Swatch Art Peace Hotel, a

sponsor of the watch company Swatch,

will be invited to Shanghai as a half-year

contracted artist. Currently working actively

in an atelier in New York City and

Japan.

Ariadna Pastorini

Since 1975, She lives and works in Buenos

Aires, Argentina.

In 1985 she began her studies at the Escuela

Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos

Aires, Argentina. In 1991 she became National

Professor of Engraving and Drawing.

1992 she held a silk-screen printing workshop

at the Gutenberg Foundation. Her

works contain installations, performances,

sculptures, paintings, serigraphy, objects

and videos. Between 1993 and 2000 Ariadna

Pastorini organized a series of annual

events on the Day of the Dead and All

Saints (November 2). This event has been

reorganized since 2017, in the 2018 edition

participated more than 100 artists. Pastorini‘s

Brankica Zilovic Chauvain, born in Serbia,

is a French and Serbian visual artist and

educator living in Paris. Her ten years lecturing

experience has directed her educative

focus to creative processes in textile

art, fashion design and contemporary art.

As an artist she creates through the fields

of contemporary art embroidery, installations,

multimedia, painting and drawing.

Her work has been exhibited booth on the

national and international levels. During

the last 17 years, she has developed different

projects with art galleries and institutions

in France, Germany, Italy, China,

Senegal, USA and Serbia, art museums,

French contemporary art centers, local

and regional cultural centers in France

(followed by workshops and lectures),

fashion magazines, advertising agencies

etc. Currently, she is represented by Gallery

Laure Roynette in Paris, L'oeil Gallery in

Geneva and Novembar Gallery in Belgrade.

She obtained a second prize for

painting from Painting Award Antoine

Marin in Paris and 1st MAUTO Award for

installation. She graduated from the

ÉCOLE NATIONALE SUPERIEURE DES BEAUX

ARTS in Paris (DNSAP) and from Faculty of

Fine Arts in Belgrade. Currently she is a professor

at École Superieure Des Beaux-Arts

of Angers (TALM), University of New School

Kristina Penhoet

Kristina began working with fiber and textiles

as a small child, learning to crochet

and sew during her summer visits to her

grandparent’s farm on a remote island in

the Pacific Northwest. She continued to

pursue her love of making during quiet

moments while earning a degree in biology

and working in healthcare. When she

realized she needed to commit to a more

creative life, Kristina attended Otis College

of Art and Design in Los Angeles, concentrating

on sculpture and environmental

design, and began working in modelmaking,

film production and stage design.

Inspired by the production design work

and a continued interest in form and

space, she pursued a graduate degree in

architecture. After 10 years of architectural

practice, she rekindled her love of making

and rediscovered fiber as a medium.

Originally from Oregon, Kristina currently

resides in Washington, DC with her family

and a naughty dog that wants to be

good.

Preta Wolzak

Preta Wolzak studies at the Gerrit Rietveld

Academy in Amsterdam, Free Programme

/ Monumental Design, from 1986

to 1991. In the following years she primarily

works on commissioned projects: she designs

and builds furniture, designs exhibitions,

works as a producer and stylist for

photographers, designs private and corporate

interiors, and makes illustrations for

websites and book covers. Preta starts

making jewelry under the name Fortblink

in 2008, and around that time she also

starts working as an autonomous visual

artist. From 2013 onwards her free work

becomes increasingly important. In that

year she opens her own creative store Old

Fort On Dun at the Oudeschans in Amsterdam,

where she has her atelier, shows her

free work, sells her jewelry and presents

work by other artists and designers as well.

From 2014 on, Preta works exclusively on

her free work.

The acrobate stand for the foolish behaviour

of mankind, ruining its environment.

Man turns the world into one big amusement

park, which now even threatens to

spread out to the last untouched areas of

our planet: the North and South Pole.

lindo e alegre de clareza, otimismo, ousadia

humana e espírito empreendedor. Vemos

acrobatas jovens e novos, usando a

natureza como plano de fundo por sua

excelência em qualidade ou aparência.

Preta Wolzak os transforma em heróis, carregados

de beleza e glamour, executados

em materiais ricos. Mas também há

um lado negro em sua história. Abaixo da

superfície, Preta Wolzak retrata sua indignação

com a forma como as pessoas tratam

o globo. O turismo e a extração de

matérias-primas formam nuvens escuras

sobre as áreas ainda praticamente intocadas,

que já parecem abalados pelas

consequências das alterações climáticas.

A acrobata representa o comportamento

tolo da humanidade, arruinando seu meio

ambiente. O homem transforma o mundo

em um grande parque de diversões, que

agora ameaça até se espalhar até as últimas

áreas intocadas de nosso planeta: o

Pólo Norte e o Pólo Sul.

About the series:

This series of works, made from summer

2017, takes the viewer ta a beautiful,

cheerful world of clarity, optimism, human

daring and entrepreneurial spirit. We see

fresh, young acrobats, using nature as a

backdrop for their excellence in quality or

appearance. Preta Wolzak turns them into

heroes, loaded with beauty and glamour,

executed in rich materials. But there is also

a dark side to her story. Below the surface,

Preta Wolzak depicts her outrage at the

way people treat the globe. Tourism and

the extraction of raw materials form dark

clouds over the still largely untouched areas,

which already seem to be shaken by

the consequences of climate change.

Lincoln, Nebraska. Her notable awards

include the Dan and Barbara Howard

Creative Achievement Award, the Othmer

Arts, Gilbert Bayes Award from the Royal

Society of Sculptors in London, and was

My artwork is engaged to nature and its

recurrent patterns and rhythms. I use them

as a base in order to create my compositions.

I´m attracted to repetitive sequences,

combining separate elements to form

a cohesive group. It isn’t a strict conceptual

idea of repetition on itself; my work

doesn’t seek to impose an order or structure,

but rather to enjoy the rhythm of repetition.

Silk and paper have the softness

and malleability that I need in order to

create my desired forms, shapes and even

shadows. The process to carry out my work

is thorough and methodical. I choose as

materials small and simple elements; such

as feathers made out of paper and silk

and then organized in a precise order. This

allows me to build a group of entities that

end up being the final artwork. My goal is

to create projects that inspire, connect

and touch people emotionally, taking the

viewer on a journey through different

ethereal, botanical and peaceful landscapes.

Desde cedo, Carolina conviveu de perto

com artistas e com o mundo das artes, o

que em criança lhe incutiu a vontade de

materiais, texturas e, principalmente, cores.

Assim, não é de estranhar que o seu

percurso profissional tenha enveredado

também pelo mundo artístico. Com um

Mestrado em Gestão Cultural e um curso

profissional em Produção de Espectáculos,

Carolina manteve esse contacto com

as Artes e com a Cultura, organizando

eventos culturais. Paralelamente, e inspirada

por esse meio fascinante, a sua vontade

de criar foi crescendo e começou a

explorar as artes têxteis, onde foi autodidata

no macramé. Desde então, decidiu

aprender e aprofundar outras técnicas

que lhe permitissem criar peças diferentes

e coser novos pontos ao seu estilo abstracto,

como a tapeçaria e o bordado. O

seu método de criação flui de forma livre

e intuitiva, onde o desenho e o bordado

acontecem de forma orgânica na tela.

Sou artista plástico há mais de 20 anos,

sempre utilizei o tecido e a costura como

forma de expressão. Desenvolvo muitos

trabalhos utilizando uma diversidade de

técnicas têxteis experimentais e materiais

com importante carga simbólica, seja visualmente

ou materialmente. Principalmente,

utilizo de materiais cotidianos que

possam ser encontrados no lar, têxteis ou

não, mas que sirvam para o propósito do

trabalho. Com estes, elaboro painéis, pinturas

"moles", objetos, esculturas e instalações.

Já participei de muitas exposições

coletivas e individuais em galerias e museus

de São Paulo e no exterior. E também

venho dividindo minhas experiências

através de workshops e cursos de arte têxtil

e criatividade.

Sarah Krespin was born in 1993 in London.

At present she is working in Paris after having

graduated with an MA in Fine Arts in

2019 from L’Ecole des Arts de la Sorbonne

(Sorbonne School of art). Her studies at

Duperré and at La Sorbonne lead her to

focus on the possibilities offered by textile

materials interrogating various ways to express

uncertainty in art. Constantly questioning

the idea of a finished piece, she

perceives her sculptures as organic and

changing objects. During an exhibition the

spectator faces a temporarily fixed state

of a sculpture modified at each installation.

In her work gesture is predominant. It

initiates an outcome which is not preconceived.

How can we give form to our uncertainties

? One can find answers in Sarah

Krespin’s woven sculptures or in her

stitched papier mâché work.

Katherine Hunt

attended the University of Minnesota for

her BFA in Native American Studies, double

minoring in Women's Studies and Cultural

Psychology. She received her MFA

from California Institute of Arts, studying

abroad Curatorial Studies at La Cinémathèque

Française, Paris, France. While

in Paris, she was Artist-In-Residence with

RE:VOIR, an Experimental film collective.

Following graduation, she was Artist-In-

Residence at Track House, Olympia, WA,

co-creating an immersive installation performance

with original film, sound and set

design. In Los Angeles, Katherine worked

in the Art Department on multiple music

videos, feature films and television shows.

Katherine's work includes 16mm film, video,

performance and installation, with her

most recent practice focusing on mixedmedia

process-based art. Having taught

Studio Art workshops at the Detroit Institute

of Arts, she is currently located in New

Mexico and acts as a Fiber Arts & Visual

Arts Instructor with multiple non-profits.

Alongside art-making, Katherine has sustainably

farmed in France as well as

across the rural USA and created numerous

urban gardens in Minneapolis, New

York and Los Angeles. In 2018, she worked

alongside Moving Arts Española to create

a public art weaving installation and heirloom

native garden on Ohkay Owingeh

Pueblo lands. In April 2020, Katherine was

selected as a recipient of both a Andy

Warhol Foundation for The Visual Arts/ Fulcrum

Fund Grant as well as a Foundation

for Contemporary Arts Emergency COVID-

19 Fund Grant. She has exhibited nationally,

including REDCAT and MOCA-Geffen

Contemporary- Los Angeles, CA, with upcoming

2021 solo and group exhibitions,

both within the USA and internationally.

Laura del Valle Ramírez García

Laura nació y creció en un hogar humilde

de la Ciudad de San Juan. Su madre le

enseño a coser, tejer y bordar, era modista

y tenía un taller en su casa. Rodeada

de telas e hilos, sintió mucho interés desde

muy pequeña por la costura y a medida

que el tiempo pasaba, comenzó a colaborar

en algunas tareas del taller. Desde

niña pintaba y dibujaba mucho, también

estudiaba danza, sus padres la motivaron

durante toda su infancia, en su desarrollo

creativo, que le permitió obtener en varias

oportunidades, premios en concursos de

dibujo. En la universidad, estudia la carrera

de Profesor de artes visuales, mientras

avanzaba con sus estudios, trabajaba como

profesora de danza; simultáneamente

comenzó a pintar cuadros, obteniendo

reconocimientos en salones de pintura

provinciales. Durante sus estúdios universitarios,

cursa una materia dedicada al Arte

Textil, que despierta en ella, un gran interés

y admiración por el trabajo con las

fibras. Luego del nacimiento de su segundo

hijo, decide destinar más tiempo a la

maternidad, lo que no le impide dedicarse

desde su hogar, a diseñar y participar

en trabajos de vestuario para la Fiesta Nacional

del Sol, la celebración popular más

grande de su provincia. Comienza a profundizar

la investigación sobre la historia

del bordado y sus manifestaciones en las

diferentes culturas del mundo. Laura siente

que el ritmo de su vida cambia de forma

rotunda, había comenzado a vivir en

un pequeño departamento, en donde

pasa mucho tiempo del día; su espíritu

inquieto va dando paso a la creación de

entornos imaginarios por medio de puntos

y puntadas que construyen formas inspiradas

en elementos de la naturaleza que se

entrelazan con retratos.

En el año 2018, concluye su primer cuadro

textil y obtiene un premio en el Salón de

Artes Visuales denominado “Impulsarte”,

en la Provincia de San Juan; al año siguiente

obtiene el Primer Premio en el mismo

salón. Laura cuenta que además de bordar,

le encanta y valora plenamente en

su carrera artística, el encuentro con la

gente que concurre a las muestras donde

participa con sus obras. Textualmente la

artista comenta: “En las exposiciones que

he participado, muchas personas que allí

concurren, al ver mis obras, recuerdan y

me cuentan historias que emocionan, de

sus abuelas, madres o tías que bordaban,

tejían o cosían, son relatos que conmueven

mis sentidos, que aprecio y guardo

con mucho respeto. También disfruto intercambiar

experiencias y conocimientos

con artistas de mi tierra y de otros países”.

Las obras textiles que realiza Laura Ramírez,

son bordados que por su tamaño y

detalle, requieren mucha dedicación y

tiempo; a simple vista, los espectadores

suelen pensar que son pinturas, pero al

acercarse, pueden apreciar los hilos de

cada puntada que conforma el bordado.

Durante el año 2020, por sus méritos fue

convocada para participar en numerosas

muestras virtuales internacionales, realizadas

de esta forma, por la crisis sanitaria

que envuelve a todo el planeta. También

a partir del 2020, forma parte de exposiciones

virtuales y presenciales junto al colectivo

de artistas sanjuaninos “18 Mundos”.

En la actualidad, continua desarrollando

su estilo personal de bordado contemporáneo,

que incorpora técnicas de

tejido y costura, trabajo que realiza desde

su taller, ubicado en aquel mágico y pequeño

departamento donde comenzó su

camino en el arte.

Kathy Sirico is a Brooklyn-based visual artist

working at the intersection of textiles,

Sirico unites materials, strategies, and histories

to create large-scale wall-based sculptural

installations and freestanding objects

with new, found, and recycled materials.

Sirico aims to innovate the field of contemporary

abstraction by reimagining

aesthetic power as empathetic, feminist,

and ecologically conscious. Sirico (b.

1990, Philadelphia) holds an MFA from the

San Francisco Art Institute and a Bachelor

of Science from Skidmore College. She

was a 2020 Artist-in-Residence at Mass

MoCA, a 2018 Artist-in-Residence at the

Vermont Studio Center, a 2017 Artist-In-

João Bruno costumava trabalhar como

jornalista de TV, até que encontrou na

arte e no design sua nova forma de expressão.

Julie Sarloutte is a French artist and graduate

of the National School of Fine Arts Paris.

Using string, she creates pieces so detailed,

that at first glance they appear to

be composed of paint strokes, rather than

of individual stitches. She reflects the fascination

of the screen. Taking her inspiration

from technology- TV shows, films and

screens covered by the media. These are

most often the subjects represented by

her embroideries. Transposing these into

embroidery makes an unexpected contrast

between the medium and the subject,

with this abstraction of the relationship

between violence and archaic

“feminine” craft. She takes the time to embroider

what usually happens in the fraction

of a second.

Jessica Gonçalves Costa

investigar o tricô e tapeçaria de pontorusso

também como mentora e educadora de

artes manuais em São Paulo, cidade que

reside. Seu trabalho mistura cores,

Star Trauth is a an experimental fiber artist

that often creates new processes to complete

the vision of her pieces. Her art has

She obtained her BFA at university in Ohio,

USA but thinks one should never stop

learning. Trauth states, “If I see an interesting

topic I’ll study it, a cool class I’ll take it.

If I want to continue to push my art I must

also push myself. I’ll never stop looking for

ways to expand my mind.” Star Trauth’s art

has been described as tribal and innovative,

art you want to touch but shouldn’t.

Her process melds ancient techniques

with signature innovations. She prefers to

use vintage, found, and new fibers in

unison to form her creations. Star prefers to

work immersed in music to keep the purity

of her vision. Trauth is meticulous when it

comes to sensory engagement. She will

often limit sight, sound, even diet, while

engaging her pieces. Each piece is inspired

by a personal experience. Her art

practice draws on the ideas of abstraction,

minimalism, Dadaism, the concept of

ikigai, anti-consumerism, and a dedication

to legacy.

Institute, and through mentorships with renown

artists as Victoria Mara HeilWeil. Her

Mylene é psicóloga, historiadora, fotógrafa

e viajante contumaz. Com mais de 60

países na bagagem sempre procurou um

ângulo inusitado em suas imagens e viagens

que foca em experiências vivenciadas

e na cultura de cada região visitada.

Numa configuração familiar eminentemente

feminina, os trabalhos manuais

sempre perpassaram as relações, conviveu

entre agulhas e linhas desde a mais

tenra infância. Com a mãe aprendeu a

desenrolar novelos e lidar com as agulhas,

com a avó o amor pelas flores e pela natureza.

Foi na fotografia bordada que encontrou

o ponto de intersecção! O enredo

que liga as linhas de construção pessoal

ao acervo que construiu. Bordando

sobre as imagens reproduz a essência

interna criando um novo matiz, baseado

em culturas diferentes e referências históricas.
