Jerry Rivera, His Successful Salsa Singing Career
Rivera Tours the United States and Latin America, Announces New Single with Rey Ruiz
and More New Music this 2022!
By VIVA NOLA Magazine
new movement is taking over the
A stage, not because of emerging
talents but because audiences are
fascinated by the quality and artistry of
true performers like Jerry Rivera. Rivera’s
successful career demonstrates that
staying relevant for so many years is not a
matter of luck but of hard work, discipline,
and perseverance. It doesn’t hurt that he
has gained great affection and respect
from a public who has followed him since
he was almost a child.
Born on July 31, 1973, Rivera is the
best-selling salsa artist. He has amassed
a devoted international fan base and
released a prodigious collection of music
since his 1989 debut that kicked off in
Humacao, Puerto Rico.
His songs have been sung and
danced internationally by salsa lovers
and remain valid for love themes that
everyone can relate to. The phenomenon
he became has taken him to the most
important stages of music, and in his
fantastic tour of 2022, he has managed
to bring the salsa genre to the forefront
again.
Jerry Rivera is the bestselling
salsa artist of all time
and has amassed a devoted
international fan base
and released a prodigious
collection of music since his
1989 debut that kicked off in
Humacao, Puerto Rico
We cannot forget his extraordinary
performance in Panama last May. During
a concert he was supposed to headline
with Marc Anthony, Rivera had to carry the
whole show when Anthony had to cancel
due to illness. Rivera managed to keep
the audience on fire for over two hours
while singing the iconic songs that have
gotten him many awards and have topped
the music charts.
Jerry Rivera has been sweeping
and follows a prevailing trend: people
buy tickets and sell out shows for artists
who make outstanding music. Without
putting him in the “veterans” category
because he is still young, audiences of
four generations filled the auditoriums
and stadiums in Mexico and Peru. Even
in these countries where people have a
wide range of concert choices, audiences
flocked to enjoy “The Baby of Salsa” and
to sing along to classics like “Amores
Como el Nuestro” and recent hits; like
his duet with Don Omar, “Tú No Bailas
Más Que Yo.” The chanting during these
concerts shook the stage and brought our
“Child Face” to tears of emotion.
His unprecedented tour that started
July 9 at the Miami FTX Arena, has taken
him through Las Vegas and various
cities in California. In Costa Rica, he had
to book three dates! In South America,
he delighted Colombians when visiting
Cali, the capital of salsa, and wowed the
demanding crowds.
In a very productive year, Rivera
announces a new record with another
great: Rey Ruíz. The most extraordinary
voices of romantic salsa come together in
a production that we hope will be available
soon. The collaboration promises to be
a bombshell that brings their experience,
a mixture of contemporary and urban
sounds, and a bit of pop, making the kings
of salsa the top choice for Latin American
audiences.
Rivera’s team is planning to visit our
region again with a concert on Saturday,
October 8th, at Da Empire in New Orleans.
We know this is the perfect opportunity to
enjoy an unforgettable evening during a
unique celebration of Hispanic Heritage
Month with this great artist.
Jerry Rivera viene arrasando,
y obedece a la tendencia que se
impone, y es que el público está
pagando sus entradas y haciendo
soldout para los artistas que
realmente hacen buena música,
y sin querer todavía meterlo en el
grupo de los llamados “veteranos”
pues está muy joven, el público
de cuatro generaciones llenó a
reventar los auditorios y estadios
donde se presentó en México y
Perú, países que a pesar de tener
una gran oferta de espectáculos,
acudieron masivamente a disfrutar
del “Bebé de la salsa” y sus
canciones icónicas como “¿Qué
hay de malo?”, “Amores como el
Nuestro” y su nuevo éxito junto a
Don Omar “Tú no bailas más que
yo”, temas que corearon hasta
estremecer el escenario y que
arrancaron una que otra lágrima de
emoción en nuestro “Cara de niño”,
quien agradecido, dejó hasta el
último aliento complaciendo a sus
seguidores.
Ahora viene con toda la fuerza,
en una gira sin precedentes que
arrancó el día 9 de Julio en el
Miami FTX Arena, continuando
por Las Vegas, y varias ciudades
de California. De Estados Unidos
pasó a la bella Costa Rica, donde
el furor de sus seguidores hizo que
reservara ¡tres fechas! Luego baja
al continente suramericano para
deleitar a Colombia visitando Cali
grabación junto a otro grande: Rey
Ruíz. Las voces más extraordinarias
de la salsa romántica se unen
en una gran producción que
esperamos, esté lista para el
segundo semestre de este año,
y que promete ser una bomba
maravillosa donde se plasme
la experiencia, la mixtura con lo
contemporáneo, con toque urbanos
y del pop, que harán que estos
reyes de la salsa sigan ocupando
los primeros lugares de preferencia
en el público de Hispanoamérica.
El equipo de Rivera está
planeando visitar nuestra región
una vez más con una presentación
el 8 de octubre en Da Empire, y
sabemos que será la oportunidad
perfecta para disfrutar una noche
inolvidable durante una celebración
única del Mes de la Herencia
Hispana junto a este gran artista.
College-Bound Hispanics and
Their Financial Stability
By AnaGarcía
@anag1928
There is a lack of basic financial
information in the Hispanic community,
which makes it even more challenging
for youth in this community to achieve their
goals. College-bound students are often
unaware of financial aid resources and don’t
know how to manage their money, so we
contacted experts in our community to offer
some information to students, regardless of
their immigration status.
Ingrid Bustos founded ECCO Centro
Comunitario, a non-profit organization and
resource center that prepares students for
college. Bustos saw the need to provide
resources for students that want to pursue a
college or university degree.
An average community college tuition
is almost $8,000 per year and a 4-year
university costs around $30,000 per year.
“For an immigrant family, it’s hard to afford
that. So, students will rely on scholarships to
attend college,” said Bustos.
Obtaining scholarships isn’t easy. Students
must work hard. An ACT score of 26 points
or above will help the student’s chances of
receiving financial aid from some private
colleges. However, for immigrant students
still mastering English, achieving high scores
in standardized testing is harder.
Bustos mentions private universities
usually have a variety of scholarships
available. They offer scholarships for sports
and arts, for community leadership, and
from foundations. But in Louisiana, “most
scholarships are based on high ACT scores,”
says Bustos.
To find opportunities, students must
take charge of their search. New Orleans
schools offer a 2-year program called
College Track that prepares them and helps
them find scholarships. In other schools,
students must rely on their counselors. “I
always tell students to ask for help from
their school counselor. Also, you can ask
the university counselor when you visit the
10 ~ VIVA NOLA August/September 2022
university. Then, ask what scholarships are
available. They should give you a list of the
scholarships they offer,” says Bustos about
finding available scholarships.
Bustos founded ECCO to help Latinx
students in Louisiana. With a bilingual staff,
they can guide Spanish-speaking parents
and students in navigating the application
process. In addition, the organization offers
“Camino a la Universidad,” a 12-week
workshop to prepare students to apply for
scholarships. “Thanks to the sponsors that
support our mission, we can provide two
hours with a professional to help them in the
process,” says Bustos. The requirements for
applying depend on the kind of scholarship
pursued. “If it is an athletic scholarship, the
student must submit a highlight reel of his
plays. For an art scholarship, you can send
photos of your art. As for academic studies,
universities always consider the GPA (grade
point average),” she adds.
Another challenge for students is
financial literacy. Many Hispanic students
don’t know how to open a bank account.
Undocumented students are afraid of being
flagged when getting into the system.
Veronica Reyes, Louisiana Programming
Officer at TruFund Financial Services, Inc.
shares valuable information on this topic.
“Opening a bank account is not as scary as it
seems. You don’t have to be afraid of being
deported just for opening an account,” says
Reyes, adding that doing some research is
essential. “What is important to you may be
different than what is important to someone
else.”
Reyes says some things to consider
when choosing the right bank are the size
of the bank, personal service, locations in
the community or out of state, ATMs, etc.
These are important to consider as well
as the features, benefits, perks, and types
of accounts offered by the bank and any
monthly service fees and other fees that may
apply before opening your bank account,”
advises Reyes.
Large chain banks usually have more
branches in your city and other states, which
means you’ll get the same service no matter
where you go. This wide coverage can
help you avoid fees for using other banks’
services (like ATM fees, etc.) Large banks
also offer services like 24-hour helplines for
their customers. In addition, these banks
usually can assist in different languages and
have the best technology. Smaller banks,
also known as community banks, tend to
be friendlier than big banks. They provide
one-on-one attention and offer a variety of
accounts and loans that help benefit the
community. Community banks are locally
owned and operated, and usually offer better
rates and lower fees. Credit unions are
not-for-profit financial institutions, often with
a mission to be “community-oriented” and
exist to serve their members. Credit unions
have made their services more accessible
by offering lower fees and partnering with
other credit unions to provide shared branch
banking and ATMs.
To open an account, you must meet the
requirements established by each institution.
“First, confirm the bank or credit union’s
eligibility and age requirements for opening
a savings or checking account. If you are
under 18, some banks may require that you
open the account with a parent or guardian,”
says Reyes.
Choose the correct account for you.
Different types of bank accounts meet
different needs. For example, when
someone opens their first bank account, it is
either a regular checking or savings account
(or both). “It’s important to deposit money
into the type of account that suits your
financial goals, so you have access to the
right spending and saving tools,” says Reyes.
Regardless of race or nationality, the
youth are our future, and we will continue to
provide resources and information for their
success.
comunidad hispana,
lo que hace que sea aún más
difícil para los jóvenes de esta
comunidad alcanzar sus metas.
Los universitarios, a menudo
desconocen los recursos de
ayuda financiera y no saben
cómo administrar su dinero, por
lo que contactamos a expertas en
nuestra comunidad para ofrecer
información a los estudiantes,
independientemente de su
estado migratorio.
Ingrid Bustos fundadora de
ECCO Centro Comunitario, una
organización sin fines de lucro
ofrece recursos para preparar
estudiantes para la universidad.
Bustos vio que existía una
necesidad de información para
estos estudiantes.
La matrícula de un colegio
comunitario promedio es de casi
$8.000 por año y una universidad
cuesta alrededor de $30.000.
“Para una familia inmigrante,
es difícil pagar eso. Entonces,
los estudiantes dependen
de las becas para asistir a la
universidad”, dice Bustos.
Obtener becas no es fácil.
Los estudiantes deben trabajar
duro. Un puntaje ACT de 26 o
más aumentará las posibilidades
del estudiante de recibir
ayuda financiera de algunas
universidades privadas. Sin
embargo, para los estudiantes
inmigrantes que aún no dominan
el inglés, es más difícil lograr
puntajes altos en las pruebas
estandarizadas.
Bustos menciona que las
universidades privadas suelen
tener una variedad de becas
disponibles. Ofrecen becas para
deportes y artes, para liderazgo
comunitario y de fundaciones.
Pero en Luisiana, “la mayoría de
las becas se basan en puntajes
altos de ACT”, dice Bustos.
Por AnaGarcía
Para encontrar oportunidades,
los estudiantes deben hacerse
cargo de la búsqueda. Las
escuelas de Nueva Orleans
ofrecen un programa de 2 años
llamado College Track que los
prepara y los ayuda a encontrar
becas. En otras escuelas, los
estudiantes deben confiar en sus
consejeros. “Siempre les digo a
los estudiantes que pidan ayuda
a su consejero escolar. Además,
pueden preguntarle al orientador
universitario cuando visiten la
universidad. Luego, pregunte
qué becas están disponibles. Les
darán una lista de las becas que
ofrecen”, dice Bustos sobre cómo
encontrar becas disponibles.
Bustos fundó ECCO para
ayudar a los estudiantes latinos
en Luisiana. Con un personal
bilingüe, pueden guiar a los
padres y estudiantes de habla
hispana en la navegación del
proceso de solicitud. Además,
la organización ofrece “Camino
a la Universidad”, un taller de
12 semanas para preparar a los
estudiantes para solicitar becas.
“Gracias a los patrocinadores
que apoyan nuestra misión,
podemos brindar dos horas con
un profesional para ayudarlos
en el proceso”, dice Bustos.
Los requisitos para postularse
dependen del tipo de beca
solicitada. Si se trata de una beca
deportiva, el alumno deberá
presentar un video de sus
mejores jugadas. Para una beca
de arte, puede enviar fotos de
su arte. En cuanto a las becas
académicas, las universidades
siempre consideran el GPA
(promedio de calificaciones)”,
agrega.
Otro desafío para los estudiantes
es la educación financiera.
Muchos estudiantes hispanos
no saben cómo abrir una cuenta
bancaria. Los estudiantes
indocumentados temen ser
señalados al ingresar al sistema.
Veronica L Reyes, Oficial de
Programación de Luisiana en
TruFund Financial Services, Inc.,
comparte información valiosa
sobre este tema. “Abrir una cuenta
bancaria no es tan aterrador
como parece. No tienes que tener
miedo de ser deportado solo por
abrir una cuenta”, dice Reyes y
agrega que investigar un poco es
esencial. “Lo que es importante
para ti puede ser diferente de
lo que es importante para otra
persona”.
Reyes dice que algunas cosas
que se deben considerar al
elegir el banco correcto son el
tamaño del banco, el servicio
personal, las ubicaciones en la
comunidad o fuera del estado,
los cajeros automáticos, etc. Es
importante tener en cuenta estas
características, y los beneficios,
las ventajas y los tipos de cuentas
que ofrece el banco, junto a las
tarifas de servicio mensuales y
otras tarifas que pueden aplicarse
antes de abrir una cuenta
bancaria”, aconseja Reyes.
Los bancos de cadena grande
generalmente tiene más
sucursales localmente y en otros
estados, lo que significa que
obtendrás el mismo servicio sin
importar a dónde vayas. Esta
amplia cobertura puede ayudarte
a evitar cargos por usar los
servicios de otros bancos (como
cargos por cajero automático,
etc.) Los bancos grandes también
ofrecen servicios como líneas
de ayuda las 24 horas para sus
clientes. Además, estos bancos
generalmente pueden ayudar
en diferentes idiomas y tienen la
mejor tecnología. Los bancos más
pequeños, también conocidos
como bancos comunitarios,
tienden a ser más amigables
que los grandes bancos. Brindan
una atención personalizada y
ofrecen una variedad de cuentas
y préstamos que ayudan a
beneficiar a la comunidad. Los
bancos comunitarios son de
propiedad y operación local y,
por lo general, ofrecen mejores
tasas y tarifas más bajas. Las
cooperativas de ahorro y crédito
son instituciones financieras sin
fines de lucro, a menudo con la
misión de estar “orientadas a la
comunidad” y existir para servir a
sus miembros. Las cooperativas
de ahorro y crédito han hecho
que sus servicios sean más
accesibles al ofrecer tarifas
más bajas y asociarse con otras
cooperativas de ahorro y crédito
para proporcionar sucursales
bancarias y cajeros automáticos
compartidos, explica Reyes.
Para abrir una cuenta, debe
cumplir con los requisitos
establecidos por cada institución.
“Primero, confirme la elegibilidad
del banco o cooperativa de
crédito y los requisitos de edad
para abrir una cuenta corriente
o de ahorros. Si eres menor de
18 años, algunos bancos pueden
exigir que abras la cuenta con un
padre o tutor”, dice Reyes.
Es importante elegir la cuenta
correcta para cada necesidad. Por
ejemplo, cuando alguien abre su
primera cuenta bancaria, es una
cuenta corriente o de ahorros (o
ambas). “Es importante depositar
dinero en el tipo de cuenta que se
adapte a sus objetivos financieros,
para que tenga acceso a las
herramientas adecuadas para
gastar y ahorrar”, agrega Reyes.
Sin importar la raza o la
nacionalidad, los jóvenes son
nuestro futuro y queremos
contribuir recursos e información
para su éxito y seguiremos
trayendo información educacional
y financiera.
Battle of the Wine Fest
Nola vs. Austin
By Rebeca M. Pinhas,
CSW, CSWS
@vinomomnola
few months ago, I attended the Austin Food +
A Wine Festival (AFWF) for the first time and had
an amazing time thanks to the good planning and
execution of the event. Everything -from picking up my
media pass to entering the venue- was as seamless as
it gets during such events. I couldn’t help but wonder,
could this happen so orderly and successfully in New
Orleans a city where people have trouble finding their
limits?
Just as the question ran through my head, New
Orleans Wine and Food Experience (NOWFE)
announced its full return after a hiatus and a soft version
the previous year. It would be the perfect time to settle
this battle once and for all by comparing these two
events in 5 different categories: Venue, Food, Wine,
Planning and Execution, and Value.
For competition purposes, I compared NWFE’s Friday
night Grand Tasting and AFWF 2 full days (you heard
that right!) of tastings. Both events, however, usually offer
auxiliary events such as wine dinners and seminars.
Venue
Austin is a beautiful city: modern, with lots to do
outdoors, clean, and vibrant. AFWF took place in a
fully open space acclimated for tasting purposes. Even
though it was November, the sun was pounding on us
at some point in the afternoon, yet there was enough
shade available. New Orleans in July is the last place
one would consider having a partially outdoor event,
yet it is greatly important to create events that will
sustain the city’s industry through the Summer so the best
weather conditions are not really a choice. So this point
will go to AFWF since we were just melting as we trekked
through the booths in New Orleans.
Food
Both events take place in the south, the land of
deliciousness and indulgence when it comes to food so
I wasn’t really worried about this aspect being lackluster.
Highlights in Austin included a live BBQ pit and lots of
Latino-influenced samples. NOWFE will get this point
because the festival was able to bring what felt like
almost every restaurant in the city while also including a
variety of formats such as out of town pop-ups, caters,
and culinary programs.
Wine
In general, the Austin experience was a bit more
curated, varied, and approachable. I was able to
taste not only lots and lots of wine -some Champagne
included-, but also very interesting spirits from all over
the world. I was also glad to see representation from
wineries in other countries such as Uruguay and Mexico.
So Austin will get this point!
Planning and Execution
Both events seemed to develop with no issues, at least from
the public’s point of view. Some things I liked about AFWF were
the floor plan for the booths (easy to follow and keep track
of what you are tastings), the availability of water and nonalcohol
drinks), the attendees were chill, and everyone was
friendly and having a good time. A great time was also had
by all at NOWFE, and most importantly, the changes in the
organization were noticeable. It was a titanic task to bring this
festival back to life, and for that reason, NOLA takes the point.
Value
Prices to attend AFWF started at $275 with some higherend
options, and this fee gave you access to two full days
of festival. NOWFE’s Grand Tasting started at $130, and there
were also a couple of enhancements available. While there
were some pretty cool, exclusive things in Austin (like the
impressive Suntori tasting room), the lower price, single-day
approach makes it more approachable for the general public
without having to commit to more than one date. So I give the
decisive point to NOWFE!
NOLA is the winner!!! Either way, both events were great and
I’m looking forward to attending both again! Salud!
Batalla de los Festivales del Vino:
Nola vs. Austin
By Rebeca M. Pinhas,
CSW, CSWS
@vinomomnola
18 ~ VIVA NOLA August/September 2022
Hace algunos meses asistí por
primera vez al Austin Food +
Wine Festival (AFWF) y la pasé
de maravilla, gracias a la buena
planeación y consecutiva
ejecución del evento. Todo
-desde recoger mi pase de
prensa, hasta la entrada en
el local- fue tan impecable
dentro de lo posible con este
dicho tipo de evento. No pude
evitar preguntarme, ¿podría
esto suceder de manera tan
ordenada y exitosa en Nueva
Orleans, la ciudad donde las
personas tienen problemas
respetando sus límites?
Justo cuando la pregunta
me circulaba en la cabeza,
New Orleans Wine and Food
Experience (NOWFE) anunció su
regreso en su totalidad después
de una pausa debido al Covid
y una versión ligera el año
siguiente. Esta sería la ocasión
perfecta para declarar un
ganador de una vez por todas
en esta batalla comparando
ambos eventos en 5 categorías
diferentes: Lugar, Comida, Vino,
Planeamiento y Ejecución, y
Costo.
Para propósitos de la
competencia, comparé el
Grand Tasting del viernes por la
noche de NOWFE y los dos días
enteros de catas (si, escuchaste
correctamente) del AFWF.
Ambos eventos, por otro lado,
ofrecen eventos adicionales
cómo cenas con maridajes de
vino y seminarios y talleres.
Lugar
Austin es una ciudad hermosa:
moderna, llena de actividades al
aire libre, limpia y vibrante. AFWF
se llevó a cabo en un espacio
completamente abierto que se
acondicionó a los propósitos de
cata. Aunque era Noviembre, el
sol nos golpeó fuertemente en
algún momento de la tarde, pero
también había suficientes áreas
sombreadas. Nueva Orleans
Nueva Orleans.
Comida
Ambos eventos se llevaron
a cabo en el sur, tierra de mil
delicias e indulgencias en cuanto
a la comida, así que realmente
no estaba preocupada de
que esta categoría fuera a
ser mediocre. Algunos puntos
destacados en Austin incluyen
un asador de carne en vivo y
muchas muestras de comida de
influencia Latina. Sin embargo,
le daré este punto a NOWFE,
ya que el festival pudo atraer a
la mayoría de los restaurantes
relevantes de la ciudad e
incluyeron también una variedad
de formatos como popups
de otras ciudades y
programas de escuelas
culinarias.
Vino
En general, la experiencia
en Austin fue un poco
más personalizada,
variada y accesible en
cuanto al vino. Pude
catar muchísimos vinos,
incluyendo algo de
Champagne, al igual que
licores bastante interesantes
de muchas partes del
mundo. Me gustó también
la presencia de bodegas
de países Latinoamericanos
como Uruguay y México.
NOWFE no tuvo tantos
representantes extranjeros
así que Austin se lleva este
punto.
Planeación y Ejecución
Ambos eventos se
desarrollaron sin ningún
problema, al menos desde
el punto de vista del
público. Algunas cosas
que me gustaron del AFWF
fueron el diseño de planta
(fue fácil seguir un orden
y monitorear lo que estás
catando), la disponibilidad
de agua y bebidas no
alcohólicas, que los
participantes estaban
tranquilos, y las personas
se comportaron amistosas
mientras la pasaban bien.
Todo el mundo en NOWFE
se divirtió también, y lo
más importante es que los
cambios en la organización
se notaron. Fue una tarea
titánica resucitar este
festival, por lo cual NOLA se
lleva este punto.
Costo
Los precios para asistir a
AFWF empiezan en $275
-más algunas opciones
extra-, y este costo
incluye acceso a dos días
completos del festival
donde puedes comer y
tomar todo lo que quieras.
El Grand Tasting de NOWFE
empieza en $130 y también
ofrece alternativas para
añadir. Aunque el festival
en Austin tuvo algunas
cosas exclusivas, cómo
la impresionante sala de
degustación de Suntory
Whiskey, el enfoque de un
precio más bajo para días
individuales hacen que el
evento sea más asequible
para el público en general
ya que no hay compromiso
de más de una fecha. Así
que le doy el punto decisivo
a NOWFE.
iNola es la ganadora!
De todas maneras, ambos
eventos estuvieron geniales
y estoy deseosa de asistir
nuevamente. iSalud!
There’s nothing like a hot, fresh beignet and a cup
of coffee. But, no matter the time of the day, you
will always find these tasty delicacies ready to be
enjoyed throughout our city.
The most popular places selling beignets are Café Du
Monde, Morning Call, and Café Beignet. Even some PJ’s
Coffee shops are now offering them. We recently found
them at PJ’s on Read Boulevard, and they were so tasty!
Beignet is French for fritter. It is a deep-fried, puffy,
square doughnut commonly served hot with sprinkled
powder sugar. Beignets were introduced in Louisiana
by the French Acadians in the 18th century, and in 1986,
beignets became the official state doughnut of Louisiana.
The popularity of beignets has grown, and chefs have
gotten creative in incorporating beignets into their
menus. Such a staple deserved a special honor; hence
the Beignet Fest was born in 2016. And with it, an
essential purpose.
After learning that their son, Liam, was diagnosed with
Autism, Amy and Sherwood Collins decided to create the
Beignet Fest to help children like their son and the many
families struggling to find programs serving children with
Autism. “Through our journey with our son, we found a
gap in programs for children on the autism spectrum,
and we wanted to change that. So, I decided that
creating a festival would help me transition my career.
Doing it as a mission-driven fundraiser for local autism
programs would help my son and thousands like him in
the local community. Thus, the idea of the Beignet Fest
was born!” says Sherwood Collins, Executive Director of
the Beignet Fest Foundation.
The Beignet Fest is a family-friendly event that features
live local music and a fully interactive and sensoryfriendly
Kids Village for children of all abilities. The
founders found the formula for the quick success of
the fest. “We take the best of New Orleans culture and
entertainment, then wrap it all up in a one-day festival –
all for a good cause!”
Traditional beignets are on the menu during Beignet
Fest, but this one-day festival is not short of culinary
creativity! On this day, you will delight your palate with
all kinds of sweet and savory ones. “We have dishes like
Crawfish and Corn Beignets, Bacon Cheddar Beignets
with Chipotle Crema, Praline Beignets, Crabmeat
Beignets, a Burger Beignet, Blackberry Cloud Beignets,
Bacon Maple Beignets, and on and on.”
The proceeds of the Beignet Fest provide The Beignet
Fest Foundation with the ability to create grants. This
nonprofit organization also receives monthly donations
from people who support its mission. Collins believes
giving a little goes a long way. “If one thousand people
donate $10 a month, it adds up to $120,000 in support
over one year for local children with autism, creating a
significant impact in the community.” So Collins greatly
appreciates the monthly donors who have joined
“Benny’s Buddies.” “It gives me the chills to think that
people like you and me – everyday folks – can make
such an amazing difference if we band together for such
an important cause!” You can become Benny’s buddy
El Festival del Beignet y su Misión
No hay nada como un beignet fresco
y caliente y una taza de café. Sin
importar la hora del día, siempre
encontrarás estos sabrosos manjares listos
para disfrutar por toda nuestra ciudad.
Los lugares más populares que venden
beignets son Café Du Monde, Morning Call
y Café Beignet. Incluso algunas cafeterías
PJ’s ahora los ofrecen. Recientemente los
encontramos en PJ’s en Read Boulevard, ¡y
estaban deliciosos!
comunidad local. Así nació la idea del Beignet
Fest”, dice Sherwood Collins, Director Ejecutivo
“Me da
tan importante!”.
