MEET the central PV Salvador and BESS storage system Technology: Photovoltaic Solar and BESS Installed Power: 68 MW (PV) and 50 MW/5 hours of storage Region: Atacama ACERA Partner Company: Innergex Renewable Energy The Salvador photovoltaic solar park is located in the commune of Diego de Almagro, in the Atacama desert. It has 162,280 modules in an area of 122.37 hectares and has an installed capacity of 68 MW of alternating current. It produces an average of 182.2 GWh/year, enough to supply more than 70,000 chilean homes with clean energy. In June, Innergex will begin construction of its commercial-scale energy storage system project, using batteries of the type called Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with Mitsubishi Power's Emerald solution, through which it is expected to add 250 MWh of storage capacity, and thus provide greater stability and reliability to the system. Alejandro Donoso, Manager of Corporate Affairs of Innergex indicated "this system will allow us to store a certain capacity of electricity for a certain period of time, to later supply it again in the network at times when there is a greater demand for electricity or a supply deficit. Thus, they provide a lot of flexibility and firmness to the system, by complementing the intermittence caused by renewable generation very quickly and efficiently”.
