Sidewall markings give information and guide you in the choice of the product which best suits your needs. The international

classification defines 4 types of use which is commonly indicated on the tyre sidewall.

C : Compactor G : Grader E : Earthmover L : Loader and bulldozer

Another number distinguishes different depths and shapes of tread pattern. The choice depends on the surfaces encountered:

grip, risks of cuts, rapid wear. The optimum performance of the machine depends to a large extent on the tyre

choice.

1 : Ribbed (normal tread depth)

2 : Traction (normal tread depth)

3 : Normal or standard tread depth

4 : Deep tread depth

5 : Very deep tread depth

7 : Flotation (normal tread depth)

Correct fitting, carried out in accordance with the methods of work recommended and observing the safety rules in force provides

protection for both personnel and equipment, and enables the tyre’s full potential to be used. Incorrect fitting may result

in damage to the tyre, the vehicle and/or people (serious or even fatal injuries). These operations need to be performed by

trained personnel with appropriate equipment.

Tyres must be inspected regularly to detect any irregular wear or possible damage. Any perforation, cut or deformation visible

on the tread, sidewalls or bead zone must undergo in-depth examination. Tread depth must always be checked at several

points on the tyre using a depth gauge or by observation of the wear indicators in the tread (identified by a symbol on the

shoulder when present).

This is an essential factor, not only affecting the tyre performance

but also safety. Correct pressure leads to

correct machine handling (traction, braking) and helps

to maintain the tyre’s integrity.

Under-inflation causes abnormal rise in operating

temperature and may result in irreversible damage to

internal components causing the destruction of the tyre.

Excessive pressure can cause rapid and irregular

wear and lead to increased susceptibility to impacts

(tread damage, casing failure).

The inflation pressure to observe is the pressure recommended

by the tyre manufacturer.


Storage premises must be:

• Clean, airy, dry, well-ventilated, sheltered from direct

sunlight and bad weather.

• Away from any chemical substance, solvent or hydrocarbon

likely to alter the nature of the rubber.

• Away from any object which might penetrate the rubber.

• Distant from any source of heat, naked flames, incandescent

bodies, equipment likely to emit sparks or electric

discharges and any source of ozone (transformers,

electric motors, welding sets, etc.).

Incorrect tyre handling may cause irreparable damage, and may also have serious or even fatal consequences for the

operator. With the aim of eliminating the risks of damage to the beads and the possible consequences, make sure to:

• Not lift a tyre directly with the hook of a crane

• Use flat straps (not metal slings or chains)

• Pick the tyre up under the tread, not the beads when using a fork lift truck

• Comply with the safety instructions in force at the site

Regarding the position to store the tyres, there are 4 main ways to do it.

(1)Vertical (2) Sloping (3) Alternating sloping and vertical (4) Horizontal

The most commonly used are Vertical and Horizontal. In case of Horizontal you must observe a maximum height piling the

tyres. For 14” or less not more than 2meters and, above this Tyre cross section, never pile more than 3.8meters high.

The tyres in the bottom of a pile supporting for long time the heavy weight of the other tyres combined with high temperatures

might cause deformation. Same goes for a tyre staying for months in the same position even vertical. Therefore,

warehouse operators need to alternate and move the tyres from the original position if they stay for long in the warehouse.

No need to mention that FIFO rule applies (First In First Out).
