Connect: Plazas from Grand Avenue towards S Hill St

Who?

For all environmental-conscious individuals’ who aim for a

collective, rational, and equitable society. People who embody

the ideals behind carbon neutrality, renewable energies,

regeneration, circular systems, and green open spaces.

What?

A staggering volume that mimics a mixed-use strategy; where

podium (1) consists of retail venues and a market hall

punctured by several atria and two towers (2) that showcase a

vertical indoor farm and the other as a residential complex.

Where?

Part of the Metropolitan Area of DTLA, specifically, its Civic

Center, adjacent to Grand Park and Grand Avenue. A project

that follows a streetscape and open design to foster social

interaction, breathable spaces, and green features.

When?

A project that aligns with the vision of COP26, 2030 Challenge,

and Net Zero for the next 10 to 30 years. Reimagining the

future of how buildings, cities, and contexts are designed to

mitigate climate crises and establish a circular economy.

Why?

To reimagine how cities can be designed to reach a more

cohesive and resilient future. A project that aims to tie both

ends -agriculture and urban centers - into a single system.

How?

By combining a vertical farm with a market hall to connote a

“farm-to-table” scenario. An interlock of eating, cooking,

harvesting, and composting spaces. A series of horizontal and

vertical surfaces to address sustainability and food security.

Duality: Opera House + Retail + Gallery Space

Connect: Grand Avenue Cultural Strip with Music Center Hall

Who?

Two main end-users, one - purposely - soprano, tenor, ballet,

musician, orchestra, and all cohort needed for an Opera.

Second, for local & international tourists who relieve, interact,

and contemplate cultural venues at major urban centers.

What?

A mid-center concentric volume that houses the auditorium

which serves as a datum and creates a radial effect. Above

ground, there is a double-framing-exterior ramp, gallery, and

retail spaces. Below ground is all services, administrative,

BOH areas meant for the functioning of Opera House.

Where?

A modernization project for Dorothy C. Pavillion, as an effort to

revitalize the corner lot, elongate the pedestrian flow over

Grand Avenue, and unify itself with the Music Center Hall.

When?

A project that aligns with the City Plan of 2030 to establish “a

unified, universally accessible space” meant for the people by

the people. In addition to the well-establish and renowned

Grand Avenue Cultural Strip that can extend more to Eastside.

Why?

To prove that functionality, open space, and simplicity can be

tied together through design. To flourish mobility, social

exchange, and access for all. An example of streetscape

design that welcomes users in a novel and natural manner.

How?

By accentuating how an Opera House can become an urban

living room that brings prosperity for artists as for tourists.

Doubling up the plaza space to become the new dynamic

public destination following the radial formations for function.

Duality: Community Centre + Cap Park + Informal Economy

Connect: West-East Side of 101 Freeway + Adjacent Plazas

Who?

For all vulnerable, marginalized, and at-risk individuals and

families who aim for a better reality cuddled with shelter,

service, assistance, recreation, exercise, and enterprise. A

project meant for locals, visitors, and homeless people.

What?

A community and human center destined for the underserved

populations to mitigate homelessness by providing faith and

opportunity. In addition to a half-mile cap park siding on top of

101 freeway to restore community & uplift open-usable space.

Where?

At DTLA Eastside parallel to Arcadia St and covering the 101

Freeway - from N Alameda St to N Hill St - by five city blocks.

The meandering paths throughout the park creates a looping

trail with adjacent venues (east) such as plazas & corridors.

When?

A plan by LA City Council and Friends of Park 101 is meant to

reach inclusive, equitable, and environmental goals by 2030. A

project that assures the mission and vision of a novel and

metropolitan city that prioritize socio-economic wellbeing.

Why?

To restore the disruption of freeway underpass, to bring

together both sides of the freeway into a single community, to

provide open-green-usable space, and to retribute positively

to the mental, social, economic, and ethics of society.

How?

By a parabolic configuration along with the main building,

circulation, and connection points allow the public to come

across different types of doing- recreation, informal activity,

service, entertainment, relaxation, reading, exercise, and help.

Duality: Hotel Complex + Retail + Communal Corridor

Connect: Chinatown Central Plaza with Gold Metro Line

Who?

A portrayal of the essence of a Chinatown neighborhood -

where diversity and dynamism happen in the same location. A

project meant for locals and tourists that profile the fast-paced

life surrounded by mobility and socio-economic exchange.

What?

A puzzling volume that articulates a hotel complex, several

retail venues, and communal spaces to foster connectivity. A

project that blends public stacks, private conditions, and vast

green-open-usable space to create a varied user experience.

Where?

At the heart of LA Chinatown. The hotel creates an oasis of

public space in a currently underutilized area and serves as a

crucial link between existing nodes of activities such as

Chinatown Central Plaza, Gold Metro Line, & LA Historic Park.

When?

As part of the Redevelopment Plan for Chinatown 2020 - where

the main focus is to create human-scale projects that blend

economic activities, social exchange, and outdoor gatherings.

Why?

To become a catalyst for the neighborhood - a centrally

located hotel that transforms into an incubator with the aim of

igniting and sustaining the growth of local microbusinesses.

While boosting pedestrian flow, mobility, and interconnectivity.

How?

By bisecting the project with a corridor that unifies the major

nodes of activities. And, also by creating a net of rectilinear

extrusions that interspersed between levels to create terraces,

open space, maximize views, and control the comfort zones.

Duality: Performance Spaces + Retail + Residential

Connect: Grand Central Plaza + Angel’s Knoll Scene

Who?

A resemblance of the spirit of a dynamic city; a combination of

authentic individuals and explorative personalities. A project

that is geared towards artists such as musicians, painters, &

comedians. Plus, general audience who delight open space.

What?

A pendant volume that explores the possibilities of a

mixed-use by unifying the (1) performance space (leisure)

auditoriums, galleries, amphitheaters, (2) production space

(work) ateliers and studios, and (3) residential space (living).

Where?

DTLA Civic Center. A project that aims to unify its 2nd-floor

podium-open level with the communal terrace happening on

Grand Central Market to accentuate socialization and leisure

while achieving the outstanding view towards Angel’s Knoll.

When?

Upholding the objectives of the General Plan 2020 for DTLA -

emphasizing the power of urban space to uplift socio-economic

conditions and capable of performing both on the human

scale as well as within the urban fabric. Space as Places.

Why?

To flourish talent, opportunities, discipline, and social bonds. A

project that captures creativity and functionality through a

series of gathering (interior and exterior) spaces to reach the

common goal of creating an authentic sense of place.

How?

By unifying the key elements of a performative user - live,

create, interact, & showcase - in a single complex. A grid of

spirals serves to create meandering ways (1), allocate

gathering spaces (2), & profile extrusions onto the facade (3).
