Este año, en octubre, voy a cumplir 22 años en México, y el primer mes que estuve aquí, me presentó Joss y Claude a Philippe. Empezamos a platicar de nuestras trayectorias y nos dimos cuenta que los dos hacíamos parte del mismo grupo de estilistas que se llamaba CAT Centre des Arts et Techniques de la coiffure française. Y teníamos muchas amistades en Francia en común. Eso fue algo que nos acercó a mi recién llegada en México. Philippe dejó un gran vacío en el mundo de la peluquería en Francia y en México. This year, in October, I will be 22 years old in Mexico, and the first month I was here, Joss and Claude introduced me to Philippe. We started talking about our careers and we realized that we were both part of the same group of stylists called CAT Centre des Arts et Techniques de la coiffure française. And we had many common friends in France. That was something that brought us closer to my new arrival in Mexico. Philippe left a big void in the hairdressing world in France and in Mexico. 05 BETTY CALLES Mi primer evento con Philippe Vanta llevaba tiempo trabajando para L'Oréal, con el Sr. Francis Serfati, cuando me comunicaron que se jubilaba y que en su lugar lo ocuparía Philippe Vanta. Al poco tiempo de haber llegado, me llamó para conoceros y me citó en su oficina. Mi primera impresión fue de asombro al ver a un francés, bastante joven calzando botas vaqueras, vestido de negro y hablando de su atracción por la cultura mexicana. Empezamos a platicar sobre el primer evento que quería hacer los primeros días de Enero inspirado en la cultura azteca. Para el evento me pidió que consiguiera un grupo de “Concheros”, su idea era iniciar el show con el ritual del “Saludo al sol” y a los “4 puntos cardinales” con su incensario quemando copal. También quería tener al conchero que anunciara el inicio del show soplando un caracol, ya que el sonido era maravilloso. Me moví y conseguí el grupo, que era maravilloso con todo lo que Philippe quería. My first event with Philippe Vanta I had been working for L'Oréal for some time with Mr. Francis Serfati when I was informed that he was retiring and that Philippe Vanta would take his place. Shortly after I arrived, he called me to meet you and summoned me to his office. My first impression was one of astonishment to see a rather young Frenchman wearing cowboy boots, dressed in black and talking about his attraction to Mexican culture. We started talking about the first event he wanted to do in the first days of January inspired by the Aztec culture. For the event he asked me to get a group of "Concheros", his idea was to start the show with the ritual of the "Salute to the sun" and the "4 cardinal points" with his incense burner burning copal. I also wanted to have the conchero announce the start of the show by blowing a conch shell, as the sound was wonderful. I moved and got the band, which was wonderful with everything Philippe wanted. El día del evento llegamos temprano para ensayar y quedó todo montado, empezaron a llegar los invitados y los del grupo de concheros iniciaron en backstage el ritual que se hace para encender el copal dentro de los incensarios. Philippe y yo estábamos checando detalles, cuando los del hotel llegan muy asustados con extinguidores y entran al salón donde estaba el grupo concheros que por el humo se habían prendido los aspersores dentro del salón, nuestros concheros mojados y asustados hicieron una gran presentación a pesar de todo y el primer show que hizo Philippe Vanta en México tuvo un gran éxito. Así empezó un camino lleno de sorpresas, enseñanzas y complicidad con mi querido amigo de tantos años, Philippe Vanta, ¡a quien tanto extrañamos! 61 The day of the event we arrived early to rehearse and everything was set up, the guests began to arrive and the conchero group started backstage the ritual of lighting the copal inside the incense burners. Philippe and I were checking the details, when the hotel arrived very scared with fire extinguishers and entered the room where the conchero group was, because of the smoke the sprinklers had been turned on inside the room, our wet and scared concheros made a great presentation in spite of everything and the first show that Philippe Vanta did in Mexico was a great success. Thus began a journey full of surprises, teachings and complicity with my dear friend of many years, Philippe Vanta, we miss so much!
