Dear IITG Alumni, Student Alumni Interaction Linkage (SAIL) Team, and Stakeholders,
Greetings from the desk of the Director, IITG.
I’m delighted to know about the preparation of yearbook 2020 by the team SAIL for the current graduating
batch and I am happy to give this message. The yearbook is a memoir of your time spent in IIT Guwahati. I
wish the graduating batch good luck for their future endeavours and contribute significantly to the lives of
others around us and to the way we live with the knowledge and skill set that you have gathered in the
institute during your stay in IIT Guwahati.
An Institution is only as good as its graduates and alumni. Creating an engaged, supportive alumni network
is crucial to an institution’s success. They should be kept informed so they can remain engaged and keep abreast on the progress of the
university. Good alumni relationships bring many benefits to both the institution and the alumni. The IITG Alumni Portal, which was
developed by IITG Alumni Association during the Silver Jubilee year of the institute was launched recently and I hope a large number of
alumni will be using this portal. The SAIL team has put tremendous effort in linking alumni to the current students and AER office.
Within this short span of 25 years of existence, IIT Guwahati has been the only academic institution from India that occupied a place
among the top 100 (61 -70) world universities – under 50 years of age – published by QS Young Universities ‘Under 50 years’ and
continues to do well in various International Rankings. IIT Guwahati has also been ranked at 470 in the QS World ranking 2021. IIT
Guwahati ranks 3rd among the leading science and research institutions in India in terms of research citation in QS Rankings, ranked
350th in the Overall World Category and 6th in Overall India Category in the Academic Sector of Nature Index Annual Ranking 2020.
While in Subject-wise Rank in India, IITG has been ranked within top 10 in four subjects of Nature Index. IIT Guwahati has been ranked 7th
both in Engineering and Overall categories in the NIRF ranking conducted by MHRD in the year 2020. IIT Guwahati has also been ranked
3rd in the “Swachhata Ranking 2019” conducted by the GoI and is the only centrally funded technical institute to be among the top 5
consistently for the past three years ever since these rankings were launched.
In the years to come, IIT Guwahati would become the ultimate destination of scholars and scientists from the world over. I request all
alumni to be in touch with our students and faculty. I also invite successful alumni to take interest in seeking a Professor of Practice and
Visiting professorship positions at IIT Guwahati, which we have introduced this year.
As we move forward to transform this vision into reality, we will create endless opportunities for students, researchers, faculty and staff of
IIT Guwahati in the coming years. I welcome all of the Alumni to join to celebrate the success of IIT Guwahati and its exciting journey to
become a “Network of Excellence”. Thank you so much. Once again I take this opportunity to congratulate the SAIL team for publishing
the yearbook 2020, even during the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.

I feel honoured while writing the blog for the Yearbook-2020 on the request of the longest ever served SAIL
Team 2020 with its four strong pillars, Mr Mayank Singla as General Secretary, Mr Pankaj Kumar and Mr Omkar
Desai as Associate General Secretaries, and a big team of executives.
I am pretty sure that each one of you will do your best in whichever field you are inspite of all the challenges
this COVID19 pandemic imposes, and that’s the confidence inculcated in you by your alma mater. Many of you
might be remembering your first day at this institute while writing the testimonials for the Yearbook and
cherishing beautiful memories of your adolescent years back when you came to this institute as budding
seeds and today you’ve grown into lush green trees providing shelter to your families and strengthening the
organizations you are going to work with. I feel happy to see the shining stars in you, and would like to congratulate all my fellow
colleagues who have tried their best to inculcate in you the qualities of remaining grounded while you reach the skies of success. At the
same time, I would urge you to follow good ethics and be an inspiration to society as you represent an Indian Institute around the globe.
Further, I personally appreciate the idea of an alumni meet, as it strengthens the bond with an alma mater. Such a reunion provides the
Alumni a platform to greet their teachers, revive memories and inspire the young minds. To realize this dream, the alumni and external
relations (AER) office and the Student Alumni Interaction Linkage (SAIL) team worked very hard to have one maiden Alumni meet in
March 2020 as the beginning of a new tradition so that the bond between the alumni and institute may become stronger in coming
years. However, the alumni meet could not be realized owing to continued pandemic limitations but surely the efforts will remain on and
we all will come back soon strongly and enthusiastically to organize the Alumni meet, with in campus presence of our Alumni.
My best wishes to all of you in all your endeavors and urge you to take all precautions to maintain a healthy life.

It gives me immense pleasure to witness a new batch of graduating students
successfully completing their academic programmes. In the unprecedented situation
prevailing this year due to the pandemic, continuing academic activities was
extremely challenging. Yet, IIT Guwahati was able to complete teaching and evaluation
of all courses in online mode. The graduating students had a unique experience
of learning half a semester virtually. The student community rose to the occasion and
extended full cooperation to our endeavour in continuing the pace of learning. I congratulate the graduating
batches for their grit and determination to face adversities in life. Their resilience against any odds will guide
them rightly as they are entering a new phase in their lives. We were not able to award degrees to graduating
students physically this year and held an online convocation with Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri
Narendra Modi as the chief guest. However, this defining moment will be etched in IIT Guwahati’s history by
the uniqueness in which the journey of the graduating students culminated.
Although we weren't able to meet our graduating students while they were leaving us, their success resounds
around us. It is a matter of pride for us that they are on the threshold of a bright career ahead and will be
fulfilling their aspirations.
I wish all graduating students happiness and prosperity in life.
I am hopeful that they will bring laurels to their Alma Mater in their chosen path.
I look forward to seeing them evolving new initiatives in finding path breaking solutions for the benefit of the
society and mankind.

“It’s a strange unpredictable world where we lived an adventure of a lifetime.”
The above line pretty much sums up our journey from being those glossy eyed aspirants
to become graduates with a sense of accomplishment, feeling of responsibilities and a
zeal to get out there and achieve the next big thing.
Right from Day 0, we started managing ourselves, made lots of friends, rushed to classes,
got smacked on our birthdays, drenched wet in rain while enjoying every moment of
Techniche and Alcheringa, going through numerous cups of tea and double-shots of Espresso became a daily
routine. Some of us indulged ourselves in illustrious clubs the campus offered, many took to 2am Canteen for
their Munchies cravings, and in the end, almost all of us created memories that we would all cherish for a long
time. As time progressed, we realized the importance of acads and its role in crucial times such as internship
and placement seasons. We have been taught by some great professors and more than able friends, who not
only taught us their subjects but made us fall in love with them.
Now, 4 years later, with Stranger Things happening in 2020, all of us F.R.I.E.N.D.S witnessing our graduation
through Youtube Live, The Yearbook gave us a sense of nostalgia, a way to go down the memory lane to
recreate those moments. It was not just an ordinary slam book, it was a respite to somehow compensate for
that missed Ball night or GTP or the last semester madness. It is a proof of all those ghat visits, the 5am
Khokha sessions and after class extracurriculars.
On behalf of the entire campus, teachers, IITG administration and alumni, I congratulate you all on successfully
graduating in 2020. I would like to mention the Class Song team that worked day and night in an effort to
bring us all together for one last time. I thank the SAIL team and AER office that worked tirelessly in an effort
to bring to reality a dream, an Alumni-Meet in the campus.
BATCH OF 2020, by quoting the Nard-Dog, "I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days
before you actually left them.”, the team presents to you all the Yearbook 2020, Memoir of a Lifetime. We
hope the book takes you on a complete campus tour with flashbacks of all the memories various places hold
for you.

Shammi Kaafi helpful banda hai yaar tu. Stalking skill to aapki god level hai. Yaar kaafi
enjoy kiya hai apan ne saath mein.Aggu ke mazze lena, late night walks, subah gym ke
liya uthana tujhe. I am still surprised ki tu subah uth jaata tha time pe . TV series'
discussions were really good. Canteen pe roz 5 minute sochne ke baad bhi same hi
cheez order karni hoti hai tujhe . PS - Bangalore mein frequently milte hi rahenge apan
toh.
First person I knew from IITG. Itne years is chhoti si city mein mere saath tha and apan
kabhi mile hi nhi. Ever helpful and supportive. Proper punjabi - Xtreme mein sab peekr
tun the par bhai control mein tha. Placement mein sabki itni help kari, chla nhi ja rha tha
fir bhi har roz jata tha udhar manage karne. Itne logo ko motivate kra tab.

First year mei kaafi maze kiye ham logo ne. Teri dedication ka first year mei hi pata chal
gya tha. Uske upar talented toh hai hi ladka. Gaata toh pehle se hi accha tha tu. Ab toh
guitar bhi seekh liya hai. Teri memory ka mei Bio ke paper vaale din fan ho gaya tha.
Aese hi haste rho, machate raho aur gaane gaa ke post krte raho. :)
Bhai bahut pyaara gaata hai tu Tera bowling action sabse unique hai. Siang mei cricket
khelte khelte bahut maze kiye hai apan ne. :P Mess mei khaana khaate time ki random
bakchodi aur discussions ki kaafi yaad aayegi. Milte rehna:)

Kaafi jolly vibes aati hai tere se. Mene jab bhi dekha hai tujhe mast chill hota hai tu. Even
during placements jahan sabki lagi padi thi tu mast ghoom rha tha. Tere se pehle milna
chahiye tha toh i guess aur maza aata. Aese hi muskarate raho, Punjabi gaane sunte raho
aur iss Punjabi ko yaad krte rehna. :)
I guess CSEA ke ilava jyaada baat nhi hui hamari. But CSEA was fun. Xtreme vaali party
mei maza aaya tha kaafi. But I guess tujhe kahan hi yaad hoga. :P Stay this cool and

journey yaad rahegi. Mast aadmi hai tu. Cheerful aur positive. College mei tere jaise do
teen hi hai jinse Punjabi mei bat hoti hai. Aage bhi milta rahio. :)

were always very kind, friendly, polite and encouraging. No matter how much pressure
and workload you were in during the placement drive you always wore a smile to your
face. Bhai your volleyball skills are amazing. I noticed you during last spardha. You
destroyed our hostel team. Bhai you have a wonderful personality. Always keep that
charm.
Bhaiya Aapse mila toh mei CV verification ke liye tha. But uske baad bhi aapse baat hoti
rahi. Aapki personality hi itni acchi aur sweet hai ki mann krta hai aapse baat krte rho. It
was really pleasing to see you getting placed in front of my eyes. Alcher vaale din ka
mujhe kuch jyaada yaad nhi. Agr pareshaan kiya ho mene toh uske liye sorry. :P Always
