Un recorrido en dos tramos
A Journey in Two Parts

Con una gran exposición inaugural dividida
en dos montajes consecutivos, la Colección
Fundación Andreani se presenta
por primera vez completa ante el público
de la ciudad de Buenos Aires.
Se trata de un conjunto heterogéneo de
obras de reconocidos artistas argentinos,
en su mayoría integrantes de la generación
intermedia, que se fueron incorporando
al patrimonio de la Fundación a
partir del año 2007, cuando se creó el
Premio Fundación Andreani a las artes
visuales. A lo largo de seis ediciones
bianuales, el Premio recorrió el país con
su itinerancia y se consolidó como una de
las convocatorias más relevantes del entramado
cultural local, apoyando la labor
de los artistas y, a la vez, contribuyendo al
fortalecimiento de la escena institucional.
El espacio que hoy recibe a la Colección
es sede temporaria de la Fundación en el
barrio de La Boca. En la casona lindera
—un antiguo conventillo frente al Riachuelo—
comienza a edificarse la sede definitiva,
a partir de un proyecto original del Arq.
Clorindo Testa. Un entorno con peso histórico
y contemporáneo, rebosante de ecos
creativos, se vuelve marco de lujo para las
obras que conforman este acervo.
La Colección implica, en algunos casos,
la madurez alcanzada durante la última
década por los “artistas de los noventa”,
con una participación cada vez más destacada
en el circuito argentino a la par
que comenzaban a abrirse camino hacia
la proyección internacional. También,
permite tomar contacto con la obra de
otra generación, más joven, que inició en
estos años su carrera y que se perfila entre
lo mejor del arte emergente nacional.
This inaugural exhibition in two
consecutive parts is the first time
the Fundación Andreani Collection
has been presented in its entirety in
Buenos Aires.
This heterogeneous group of works
by well-known Argentine artists, most
of them in the middle of their careers,
was brought into the foundation’s
collection starting in 2007, when the
Premio Fundación Andreani a las artes
visuales was created. Over the course
of the six biennial editions held thus
far, the juried shows of works awarded
and selected have traveled the country.
It is now one of the most important art
competitions on the local scene due not
only to the support it offers artists but
also to its contribution to strengthening
local cultural institutions.
The collection is temporarily installed in
a space in the La Boca section of the
city. On the adjacent property facing
the Riachuelo, now site of a former
tenement, construction on its permanent
seat —a project designed by architect
Clorindo Testa— will soon begin. In
a setting rich in creative resonances
past and present, the new building will
provide an optimal frame for the works
that make up the foundation’s holdings.
Some of the works in the collection
evidence the maturity reached in the
last decade by the “nineties artists”,
figures that have gradually gained more
and more recognition not only in the
Argentine circuit, but also internationally.
It also contains works by a younger
generation, artists that have gotten off to
a promising start in recent years.

La exhibición, fraccionada en dos partes,
presenta todas las obras ganadoras
del Premio y algunas piezas que fueron
incorporadas por adquisición directa. De
la pintura a la fotografía, de la escultura al
video o la instalación, la muestra recorre
un abanico de técnicas, temas y estilos
que testimonian la diversidad característica
de la escena actual.
I
El primer tramo de la exhibición reúne una
serie de piezas resplandecientes bajo la
luz potente de la Vuelta de Rocha, luz
costera que se cuela desde los grandes
ventanales que conectan la sala con el
exterior. La selección permite apreciar
cierta diversidad y, al mismo tiempo,
coincidencias: el trasfondo conceptual de
Eugenia Calvo y Max Gómez Canle, dos
artistas de los 2000 que desafían el punto
de vista del espectador, Gómez Canle
con su pintura “vacía” en la que la imagen
se desplaza del interior hacia el marco
y Calvo con un espejo laboriosamente
apuntalado que imposibilita la función
habitual del objeto, tal como ocurre en
varias otras piezas de la artista rosarina.
En el terreno de la pura pintura, en el
goce del color y la forma, se encuentran
dos artistas de diferentes generaciones
que comparten el uso de un gran formato
pictórico: Ana Vogelfang, joven artista revelación
de la primera edición del Premo
Andreani (quien luego continuaría su formación
en Berlín) y Alfredo Londaibere, figura
fundamental de los años 80 y 90 que
jugó un rol clave en el mítico Centro Cultural
Rojas y que falleció tempranamente en
2017. Otro importante representante de
esa generación es Miguel Harte, también

parts, includes all of the works that have
won the prize as well as others brought
into the collection via direct acquisition.
From painting to photography and from
sculpture to video and installation,
the show encompasses a wide range
of techniques, themes, and styles.
Together, they attest to the diversity of
the current Argentine scene.
I
In the first section of the exhibition, a
number of dazzling works come together
under the powerful riverside light of La
Boca that bathes in through the gallery’s
large windows. The selection of works
here is diverse but also convergent.
The conceptual tone is set by Eugenia
Calvo and Max Gómez Canle, two
artists “from the 2000s” that challenge
the viewer’s point of view. Gómez Canle
does so with his “empty” painting where
the image is displaced from the work’s
interior to its frame; and Calvo, an artist
from Rosario, with a laboriously braced
mirror that cannot be looked into,
disabling here —as she has in other
works— the object’s function.
Two artists from different generations
venture into the terrain of pure painting,
reveling in color and form in large-format
canvases: Ana Vogelfang, a young
artist discovered at the first edition
of the Premio Andreani (she would
go on to study in Berlin) and Alfredo
Londaibere, a crucial figure in the
eighties and nineties, specifically at the
mythical Centro Cultural Rojas gallery,
who passed away prematurely in 2017.
Another important representative of that

presente en la exhibición con una escultura
que remite a un mundo orgánico-fantástico
absolutamente personal, resuelto
en resina policromada.
Otras dos obras que dialogan en la sala
son las de Lux Lindner y Hernán Marina:
en ambos, se podría afirmar que el dibujo
de línea ha sido el motor de sus trabajos
desde los 90, disparado en el primer caso
hacia el vínculo con la palabra (Lindner es
un refinado comentarista social que conjuga
humor y erudición) y en el segundo
caso desplegado hacia la tridimensión
(Marina ha llevado al volumen sus figuras
en diversos materiales, generando incluso
esculturas monumentales en las que
parece dibujar en el aire).
Por último, la primera parte de la muestra
reúne a dos destacados artistas de los
2000 que reivindican el gesto y la materia:
Guillermo Iuso, autor hiperbólico y
desbordado que pasa de la pintura ultra
matérica a la literatura del yo con total
comodidad, y Diego Bianchi, artista que
en esta pieza en particular combina desechos,
objetos industriales y líquido, y que
en otros de sus trabajos genera situaciones
performáticas de alto impacto.
II
El segundo tramo de la exposición de la
Colección Andreani presenta otra disposición
lumínica en la sala, que permite
apreciar los matices específicos de las
obras seleccionadas. En esta segunda
puesta se incluyen varias obras que
coinciden en hacer uso de dispositivos
técnicos: el joven artista Valentín Demarco,
revelación reciente del Premio
Andreani, exhibe una pequeña línea de

suggestive of a deeply personal
organic-fantastic world rendered in
polychrome resin.
Two other works —one by Lux Lindner
and one by Hernán Marina— dialogue in
the gallery. Line drawing has fueled the
work of both artists since the nineties. In
Lindner’s case, it has taken him to the
word (he is also a sophisticated social
commentator who brings together
humor and scholarship), and in Marina’s
to three dimensionality (he has rendered
his figures in diverse materials, making
even monumental sculptures where he
seems to draw in air).
The first section of the exhibition
includes two outstanding artists from
the 2000s who privilege gesture and
matter: the hyperbolic and unbridled
Guillermo Iuso, who seamlessly
goes from hyper-material painting
to a literature of the self; and Diego
Bianchi, who in this piece combines
waste, industrial objects, and liquid
and in others generates high-impact
performatic situations.
II
The lighting in the second section of this
exhibition of the Andreani Collection
is designed to underscore specific
aspects of the works selected. Many of
the pieces here make use of technical
devices. The young artist Valentín
Demarco, a discovery at a recent
edition of the Premio Andreani, shows
a brief horizontal line of light; the title
of this work —Dan Flavin, Radiografía

luz horizontal que condensa en su título
una irónica alusión conceptual, habitual
en sus trabajos (Dan Flavin, Radiografía
de la Pampa); el reconocido fotógrafo
Esteban Pastorino, uno de los más destacados
artistas de los primeros 2000,
presenta una imagen estereoscópica
dentro de una caja backlight, para mirar
con anteojos especiales.
De la artista Mónica Heller (Primer Premio
en 2017) se exhibe una fantasía animada
en 3d monocanal, en la que constituye
hasta el momento la única pieza de video
de la Colección, mientras que Juliana Herrero
(artista argentina actualmente radicada
en Viena) presenta una instalación
sonora de gran formato, en la que una
lluvia de pequeños puntos suspendidos
en el espacio envuelven visual y auditivamente
al espectador.
Ernesto Ballesteros (referente fundamental
de la escena artística de fines de los
90, hoy consagrado integrante de la generación
intermedia) muestra una imagen
digital compuesta a partir de la yuxtaposición
de 35 tomas de un mismo objeto
vibrante. También el artista paranaense
Federico Lanzi construye su pieza en mosaico,
combinando 18 partes realizadas
mediante una técnica personal que incorpora
pintura, collages e impresiones.
En conversación con este variado repertorio
técnico, la pintura de corte más tradicional
es revisitada por Santiago De Paoli
y Gimena Macri, dos artistas surgidos durante
la última década en Buenos Aires,
presentes en la exhibición con sendas
piezas que actualizan desde un pensamiento
absolutamente contemporáneo el
legado de una disciplina siempre vigente.

Pastorino, one of the most renowned
artists from the early 2000s, exhibits a
stereoscopic image in a backlit box to
be seen through special glasses.
The work by Mónica Heller (first prize
in 2017) on exhibit is a 3D animation
single —channel fantasy— the only
video work in the Collection to date.
Juliana Herrero, an Argentine artist who
currently resides in Vienna, presents a
large-format sound installation where
small raindrops suspended in the
space envelop the viewer on visual and
auditory levels.
A crucial figure from the late nineties,
mid-career artist Ernesto Ballesteros
exhibits a digital image composed by
juxtaposing thirty-five shots of a single
vibrating object. Federico Lanzi, an
artist born in Paraná city, builds his
mosaic work by combining eighteen
pieces produced using a technique
of his invention that brings together
painting, collages and prints.
In dialogue with this varied technical
repertoire, more traditional painting
is revisited by Santiago De Paoli and
Gimena Macri, both of whom have
emerged on the Buenos Aires art
scene in the last decade. Thanks to a
thoroughly contemporary approach,
their works here bring into the present
the always-relevant pictorial tradition.
Lastly, the selection includes works by
two sculptors from another generation,
both of them now recognized masters:

dos escultores pertenecientes a otra franja
generacional, ambos reconocidos hoy
como maestros: una inquietante pieza
vertical de gran tamaño de Roberto Fernández
(reconocido también por su trayectoria
en el arte textil) y una pequeña
figura de Elba Bairon, que mediante una
notable economía de recursos construye
un imaginario de enorme belleza y sofisticación
visual.

a esta querida Colección en un momento
bisagra que preanuncia su crecimiento,
mientras se prepara para habitar su casa
definitiva.

economy of resources, constructs
an endlessly beautiful and visually
sophisticated imaginary.

one that foretells growth as it prepares
to move into its permanent home.
