Abstract

Reading competence is one of the most relevant psychological tools in learning and teaching processes.

Its transversal nature has collateral effects on the rest of the academic areas, opening a gap

that has been declining since recent years due to new technologies, lack of support at home or lack

of didactic strategies. Based on the above, the present research seeks to know the main factors that

influence the reading macro-ability on a second grade group from “David G. Berlanga” Elementary

School in Morelia, Michoacán, considering that this ability and lack of reading habit are the two

most serious problems that affect school performance. This research aimed to diagnose, from the

implementation of didactic strategies, the factors that influence the development of reading macro-ability

through the application of different techniques and research instruments such as surveys,

questionnaires and observation scripts which allowed us to glimpse results around the analysis and

organization of ideas, work with the textual typology, self-knowledge or reading moments. All of

these reasons give an account of the level of achievement that can be achieved through reading macro-ability,

which is renowned for achievements in students’ academic performance.
