38 . No se han comunicado efectos
adversos en el feto cuando se ha
utilizado en humanos: no altera el
crecimiento, no afecta la relación
peso/estatura del recién nacido y
no se han evidenciado alteraciones
en el desarrollo motor en el
primer año de vida de bebés cuyas
madres tomaron metformina durante
la gestación 22 .
Si bien se necesitan estudios mejor
diseñados y de seguimiento a
más largo plazo para poder dar
datos definitivos en el aspecto de
la seguridad, algunos autores recomiendan
el uso de la metformina
en gestantes sólo en el contexto de
estudios bien controlados.
