details give to the town a quite special atmosphere,
bucolic, melancholic, a bit western,
this is a pretty interesting place.
I met this town travelling, my first impression
was terrific, I loved it so much because
is a thousand storytelling place. El Camino
a la Soledad is one of the possible stories
which can took place here.
Did you write the story in the town?
John Agudelo: No, when I met this place, I
thought will be great filming a short there,
then I thought about the kind of story I
could write. I did a brainstorming, and little
by little I wrote the script. This was “El Camino
a la Soledad” birth.
What is your point of view about the cinematographic
industry in Colombia today?
John Agudelo: I think is a positive moment,
the best moment of cinematographic production
in Colombia, however the attendance
to the movie theaters is low, there
have been better times, however the takings
are an important indicator to measure a
movie profitability, it’s essential taking in
account this factor because the movies besides
being an art is also an industry.
Moviemaking requires a lot of money therefore
is necessary to earn profits, some
movies scarcely receive money to cover its
expenses during the filming, though are
few those who earn profits. Despite of that
thanks to FDC stimulus, regional contests,
international funds, Ibermedia, etc., it’s a big
moment for filmmakers, as a result we have
short films and long films competitive in
international contests.
There are not any technical issues as were
used before; if you see nineties or eighties
movies, the sound was awful, nothing else
exists, we are equal as any film producer
country.
There are very interesting stories in the
country and the city, Colombian are plural-
ethnical and multi-cultural people, it
provides a large wealthy on the movies, a lot
of variety, nevertheless not all this variety
comes to the audience.
Movies are being filmed for those who
“Film the movies”. I film for my friends who
are filmmakers, whether the aim of movies is
reaching people and we aren’t achieving that
goal. Movies are coming close ten thousand
people; the movies are pushed out in a week
because people don’t attend to the theaters.
Did you film all the scenes?
John Agudelo: We didn’t film hundred
percent, rather we film two-hundred percent
of shots because our filming plan was about
eighty shots, at the end we film closely one
hundred fifty shots, because when you are in
“I think is a positive
moment, the best
moment of cinematographic
production
in Colombia, however
the attendance to
the movie theaters is
low, there have been
better times”
