Desde el siglo XIX hasta el año<br />
1965 la municipalidad de Maracaibo<br />
celebraba el 20 de enero,<br />
el día de la ciudad y el de su<br />
santo patrono con vistosos actos;<br />
sin embargo ante la antigua<br />
controversia en torno al nombre<br />
del fundador y a la real fecha de<br />
la fundación de la ciudad, se declaró<br />
el 8 de septiembre de 1529<br />
como día de Maracaibo; y el 20<br />

the day of the city and its patron<br />
saint,however there was a controversy<br />
about the date when the<br />
city was founded.On September<br />
8, 1529 the day of Maracaibo was<br />
declared and January 20th, the day<br />
