Day 1: Transfer to Hotel Puembo Birding
garden upon arrival to Quito “Mariscal
Sucre” Airport (2400 m, 7,920 ft.). This
great place is located just twenty
minutes.
Day 2: Early transfer to Loja Flight. Your
guide will be on this flight with you. Our
driver will be waiting for you at to pick
you up. Birding the airport area and the
drive towards Vilcabamba. Overnight in
Hosteria Vilcabamba.
Day 3: Birding around the area, then
drive-birding to Tapichalaca reserve,
lunch, afternoon exploring around the
lodge, Overnight at Casa Simpson.
Day 4: Early start breakfast, lookinf for
hummers around the feeders. Later
30 minutes walk to see the Jocotoco
Antpitta.
Day 5: Birding the Bombuscaro Area
(900 to 1200 m / 2,953 to 3,937 ft) on the
Northern limit of Podocarpus National
Park Overnight in Zamora (Cabañas
Ecológicas Copalinga).
Day 6: Birding the Bombuscaro Area
until late afternoon. Drive to Loja and
overnight in Copalinga.
Day 7: Full day birding at trails of lodge
Umbrella Bird
and also the trails at Bombuscaro
Reserve, great chances to see iconic
birds like Coppery – chested jacamar,
Paradise Tanager and many others.
Overnight in Copalinga.
Day 8: Drive – birding to Macará, a dry
forest where Jocotoco Foundation has
a great reserve protecting dry forest.
Here we will enjoy super different birds
like Buff-fronted Owl, Henna –hooded
Foliage gleaner and others, Overnight at
Jocotoco reserve, Jorupe Lodge.
Day 9: Full day exploring the trails
and areas plus feeders of this fantastic
reserve. Overnight at Jorupe Lodge.
Day 10: Last morning , around Macara
looking for Tumbesian endemics like
Marañon –crescent chest, Tumbes
Sparrow, then after lunch a visit again
to Utuana to enjoy the feeders. Arrival
to Catayamo, Overnight at hotel Marc
Jones.
Day 11: Drive- birding to Buenaventura
Reserve long drive but worth is, we
can get few more local or tumbesian
endemics. After lunch in the early
afternoon arrival to the Reserve and
enjoy the hummingbird feeders and
some tanagers around.
Day 12: Full day birding the trails of this
reserve. Chances to enjoy the lek on the
majestic Umbrella Bird, and some other
super birds like Gray- backed hawk, El
Oro Parakeet among others. Overnight
in Jorupe.
Day 13: Full day birding around the area.
Exploring the new areas that Jocotoco
Foundation has bought there, good
day also to understand the activities of
reforestation here.
Day 14: Last morning, early departure
to Santa Rosa or Guayaquil airport to
take our flight back to Quito and transfer
to our hotel there. Early arrival and
eventually a full day visit to Antisana
Reserve for chances of Andean Condor,
Dinner and overnight.
