HANNAH GREELY
Hannah Greely was born in Dickson, Tennessee and lives in Los Angeles. She holds
a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from University of California Los Angeles and a
Master of Fine Arts from University of California Riverside. Working primarily in
the medium of sculpture, her recent work investigates the changes and failures that
occur when trying to translate pictorial imagery into the third dimension or “real”
space of sculpture in an attempt to better understand the modes in which
sculptural space operates. She maintains a painting practice alongside her
sculptural work that continues to inspire and inform, shifting between realism and
fantasy. For over a decade, she has exhibited internationally in shows including the
2003 Venice Biennale, the Whitney Biennial in 2006 and 2010, the UCLA Hammer
Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Her work is
currently on view at the Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo as part of the exhibition
Los Angeles: A Fiction. She is a 2005 recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award
and her sculptures are included in the permanent collections of the UCLA Hammer
Museum, MOCA, the Astrup Fearnley Museum, and the Rubell Family Collection.
