Clínica Las Condes.Email: ppaolinelli@clinicalascondes.clRESUMENEl ultrasonido doppler constituye un método de diagnósticode primera línea para los pacientes con patología vascular.Se basa en el efecto doppler, en que la frecuencia del sonidocambia cuando el emisor y/o el receptor se mueven.En medicina se utilizan el Modo doppler continuo (CW) yel Modo Pulsado (PW), en sus formas de doppler espectral,color y Power Angio.En la práctica clínica, el doppler se utiliza para evaluar el flujosanguíneo por medio de la medición del movimiento de losglóbulos rojos, permitiendo obtener información respecto ala permeabilidad vascular, el sentido del flujo, presencia deestenosis, resistencia vascular distal y vascularización de laslesiones.Dentro de todas las indicaciones, se analizarán las pruebasque se realizan con más frecuencia en un servicio de radiología:el doppler carótido- vertebral y el doppler venoso.Palabras clave: Efecto doppler, ultrasonido doppler, dopplerpulsado, doppler carotideo, doppler venoso.SUMMARYDoppler Ultrasound is the first line diagnostic method forpatients with vascular disease. It depends on Doppler effect,consisting in frequency wave changes when transmitter and /or receiver are moving.In medicine we use Continuous Doppler Mode (CW) and PulsedDoppler Mode (PW) in form of spectral Doppler, color and PowerAngio.In clinical practice, the Doppler is used to assess the blood flowmeasuring the movement of red blood cells, allowing to obtaininformation regarding vascular permeability, direction of flow,presence of stenosis, distal vascular resistance and lesionsvascularization.We analize most frequently examinations in a radiologydepartment: carotid-vertebral Doppler and Venous dopplerKey words: Doppler Effect, doppler shift, dopplerultrasonography, pulsed doppler ultrasonography, carotiddoppler ultrasonography, venous doppler ultrasonography.INTRODUCCIÓNEn los últimos años ha habido un gran avance en el estudio vascular noinvasivo con instrumentos como la resonancia magnética y la tomografíacomputada multicorte. La técnica doppler ha estado disponible porcerca de 40 años, constituyendo un método fundamental y la mayor delas veces de primera línea para el diagnóstico vascular.Este artículo tiene por objetivo realizar una revisión de la técnica, aprendiendolas bases físicas del ultrasonido doppler y sus aplicaciones enmedicina.
