Gil de Frutos, OlgaABSTRACTMany authors have studied a kind of very short visual memory, which is called iconicmemory, where is seem to being stored and connected the information obtained byvisual fixations which are produced during the reading process. The main goal of thisstudy is to prove the direct relation between iconic memory and reading speed. Toachieve this goal, it was designed a correlational relational non experimental study.The sample is constituted by 69 students from third and fourth level of PrimarySchool, who did some tests which show me their iconic memory capacity, readingspeed and saccadic movements. The results show us that there is a direct relationbetween the iconic memory and the reading speed, and the study proposes a newresearch to put into practice these results.Keywords: iconic memory, reading speed, perception, academic performance.8
