EDITORIALThis issue is primarily devoted to theInternational Conference organized by theSNE on “Nuclear Power Plants in 1995:Experiences and Perspectives”, which washeld, as is now the custom, in late February.Regarding the Conferenceitself, we should emphasize its continuity (ithas been held every year since 1989), itsgrowing internationalization and the diversityof the agenda, which goes beyond a merepresentation of plant results and addressesmonographic issues of widespread interest tothe nuclear collective.In view of the above, theSNE has made a special effort to disseminatethe Conference results, which will be of aninternational nature, and for this reason thisissue will be a bilingual Spanish-Englishedition.We should also stress themagnificent results obtained by the Spanishnuclear power plants that were presented inthe Conference, which confirm that they rateamong the best performing plants in the world.These positive results are aproduct of the effort, experience, knowhowand responsibility of the professionals workingin this sector, which contributes to generationof a third of the electricity produced in Spain.This is the truth that weshould convey with calm to Spanish society,at a time when any pretext is valid toindiscriminately attack the use of nuclearpower.The SNE, from its vantage asa professional society and far fromencouraging a dangerous self-complacencyabout the good results obtained or anger atthe unfair and at times malicious criticismsfrequently directed at us, again calls on itsmembers to continue in the search for jobexcellence and to make an added effort tocommunicate to society the trueparameters of the pacific use ofnuclear power, as it understands thatthis is the only ethically correctposition.El presente número está dedicado fundamentalmente ala Conferencia Internacional “Centrales Nucleares 1995.Experiencias y Perspectivas” que, organizada por la SNE, secelebró, como ya es habitual, a finales del mes de febreropasado.De la Conferencia en sí, debemos destacar su continuidad,pues viene celebrándose desde 1989, su crecienteinternacionalización y la diversidad de su temario, queexcede ya de los límites de la mera presentación deresultados de las centrales, adentrandose en temasmonográficos de amplio interés para el colectivo nuclear.Estas características han llevado a la SNE ha hacer unesfuerzo en la difusión de los resultados de la Conferenciaque será de carácter internacional, razón por la cual laedición de este número es bilingüe, en castellano-inglés.Por otra parte, no pueden dejar de destacarse losmagníficos resultados obtenidos por las centrales nuclearesespañolas que fueron expuestos en la Conferencia y que lasconfirman como pertenecientes al grupo de las mejoresinstalaciones a escala mundial.Estos resultados positivos son producto del esfuerzo, laexperiencia, el saber hacer y la responsabilidad de losprofesionales que trabajan en este sector, que contribuye a lageneración de un tercio de la energía eléctrica que seproduce en España.Es esta verdad la que serenamente debemos hacer llegar ala sociedad española, en estos tiempos en que cualquierpretexto es bueno para atacar indiscriminadamente el uso dela energía nuclear.La SNE, desde su posición de asociación de profesionales,lejos de alentar la peligrosa autocomplacencia por losbuenos resultados obtenidos o el enfado por las opinionesinjustas y a veces maliciosas que a menudo se vierten, llamaa sus socios de nuevo a continuar en la línea de la búsquedade la excelencia en su trabajo y a un esfuerzosuplementario en la comunicación, hacia toda lasociedad, de los verdaderos parámetros del usopacífico de la energía nuclear, en el entendimiento queésta es la única postura éticamente correcta.
