DFC (Dynamic Flow Control) SYSTEMThe DFC system fitted on the HUB first stage minimizes the pressuredrop occurring in all regulator first stages when the diver inhales. Thisphenomenon is clearly noticeable when the air flow demanded fromthe regulator is higher. Hence, especially at depth and in extremeconditions, the regulator inhalation effort will be much lower.COLD WATER DIVING - CWD KITFor particularly severe conditions and professional use in cold orpolluted waters, the HUB first stage may be fitted with the CWD kitthat completely isolates all first stage internal parts from the water. The CWD kit must be mounted by a MARES Authorized ServiceCenter only.According to EN 250, water is cold when its temperature is below10°C (50°F). WARNINGDiving in cold water (below 10 °C) without specialtraining and equipment may cause serious injury ordeath. Before diving in cold water, obtain special trainingfrom a certified diving instructor. Since it is not possibleto prevent a regulator from freezing under any and allconditions, Mares regulators too, even though equippedwith a CWD Kit, may undergo "freeze-up" phenomena.Should this happen, regulators may not functionproperly and could cause serious injury or death. Therefore, to minimize risks, appropriate training isrequired to prevent or cope with any problems causedby a regulator affected by "freeze- up" phenomena. The following precautions must be taken when diving incold water:1) Do not breath from or exhale through the regulatorwhen out of the water.2) Press the purge button only when underwater, andthen very gently and for very brief periods. WARNINGProper operation of your regulator also depends onappropriate maintenance. Therefore, your regulator shouldbe submitted to a Mares authorized service center forinspection at least once a year. It is also recommendedthat the first stage valve be inspected and possiblyreplaced every two years or every 200 diving hours.Failure to do so could lead to serious injury or death. The HUB "Human Underwater Breathing System" is the true divinginnovation of the third millennium. The result of over three years of sophisticated development by atop flight team of designers, researchers and professional divers, the HUB is protected by seven patents. The HUB consists of a compact buoyancy compensator with anintegrated breathing system built into in its pockets. The absence of external hoses drastically reduces the likelihood ofdiver entanglement, thereby helping to safeguard the underwaterenvironment. Its exceptionally compact and anatomical design minimizes thediver's hydrodynamic resistance: this translates into reduced effortin moving through the water, hence lower air consumption. The purpose of this manual is to provide the basic informationnecessary for the correct use of this equipment underwater. The HUB offers a high level of reliability, however its use isreserved for certified divers or trainee divers under the directsupervision of an instructor. WARNINGScuba equipment should only be used by suitablytrained and certified divers.THE INTEGRATED BREATHING SYSTEMTo start using the HUB, simply connect the special first stage tothe tank valve.Inside the right pocket there is a compartment containing theprimary regulator and octopus, while the left pocket contains thesubmersible pressure gauge or console. It is also possible to connect the HUB to a dry suit by means of aspecial hose (optional) (Fig 1).The left pocket also contains the oral inflation system, consisting ofa small silicone tube fitted with a check valve, housed inside acompartment with Velcro closure. The upper part of the first stage provides the user with twoadditional ports, one LP (LOW PRESSURE) and one HP (highpressure). WARNINGThe installation of the submersible pressure gauge orconsole must be carried out by an authorized Maresservice center.THE INFLATORThe HUB inflator provides an exceptional new solution forcontrolling the inflow and outflow of air.Its innovative mechanism completely revolutionizes theergonomics of using an inflator underwater. In fact, on traditional BCs the inflator must be secured within easyreach by a retainer - but this does not always take place, makingthe inflator difficult to use.The innermost end of the group is fitted with a quick couplingwhich can be manually detached in the event of a malfunction, toimmediately shut off the flow of air.EXHAUST VALVESThe HUB deflation button actuates an innovative "Twin ExhaustValve System". These valves, positioned one on the lower rightside and one on the left shoulder, release air simultaneously, regardless of the diver's underwater swimming position. This makes it extremely easy to adjust the buoyancy. This new sophisticated valve system overcomes the limitations oftraditional inflators, which require a specific diver position tofacilitate air discharge. WARNINGThe "Twin Exhaust Valve System" allows the user tocontrol the air discharge rate.To obtain a quick air dump, press and hold down the"OUT" button. To obtain gradual deflation, press the "OUT" buttonlightly and repeatedly. The HUB also incorporates two mechanical quick air dump valves, one on the right shoulder and one on the lower left at the rear, operated by means of a pull cord attached to a knob. Both valves also function as over-expansion relief valves.- 111
