Para ello haremos unrecorrido a través de diferentes ejemplossignificativos. Primando la referencia atrabajos de contenido gráfico que nospermitan hacernos una idea visual delas condiciones asistenciales en las quese ha desenvuelto y se desenvuelve elenfermo mental, se ha intentado citar elmayor número de obras disponibles enInternet para facilitar la consulta de lasimágenes. Ilustraciones que aunque generalmentese presentan como denunciade las condiciones de vida del enfermomental, ocasionalmente también sedivulgan con el ánimo de presentar loslogros obtenidos y mejoras realizadas trasdiferentes procesos de cambio.Palabras clave: Fotografía, imagen, enfermedadmental, hospital psiquiátrico, enfermomental, medios de comunicación.ABSTRACTThe paper presents the importantrole that the Press and photo-journalistshave had in many places and historicalcircumstances, sensitizing the populationand denouncing situations of clearabuse or negligence of patient’s rights.Focusing in this function we will try topresent different significant examples.Prioritizing the reference to works ofgraphical content will allow us making avisual idea of the conditions in which themental patient has been and is treated;this is why it has been tried to mentionthe greater number of works available inInternet to facilitate the consultation ofthe images. Illustrations that althoughgenerally denounce the conditions oflife of the mental patient, occasionallythey are also disclosed with the spirit ofpresenting the improvements made afterdifferent processes of change.Key words: Photography, image, mentalillness, psychiatric hospital, mentallyill, mass media.
