Esta popularidadcontrasta con la sobriedad <strong>de</strong>l tema que trata C. García Gual sobremitología y tragedia. A. García Calvo tan sólo nos facilita un ((Recordatorio»<strong>de</strong> algunas cuestiones que se trataron en la sesión <strong>de</strong> mito y ciencia.El profesor Francisco Rodríguez Adrados nos ofrece el estudio <strong>de</strong>lmito dionisíaco <strong>de</strong> Las Bacantes: un danteamiento ~rofundo <strong>de</strong>l mitocon el que se cierra esta primera parte <strong>de</strong>l libro. En la segunda parte, queya anunciábamos, profesores <strong>de</strong> la talla <strong>de</strong> Gonzalo Yélamos y MaríaAngeles Martín Sánchez nos ofrecen el material, nos dan i<strong>de</strong>as y nos <strong>de</strong>muestranque la Mitología ha sido y sigue siendo tema <strong>de</strong> estudio en elaula. En manos <strong>de</strong> las profesoras M. Morillas, F. Morillo y M. R. Ruiz<strong>de</strong> Elvira por un lado, y E. Rodríguez Monescillo, B. Ferrero, V. Lizaury M. V. Matamala por otro, se han iniciado labores experimentales tomandocomo referencia la mitología. Un enfoque interdisciplinar indudablementetiene sus ventajas, sin embargo <strong>de</strong> los profesores <strong>de</strong> clásicas <strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>que no convirtamos el latín y el griego en el eslabón perdido.A. Voces femeninas en el pensamiento griego.Madrid, Taurus, 1<strong>99</strong>0, 161 pp.Las re<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong>l enigma se presenta en la línea <strong>de</strong> los trabajos <strong>de</strong> algunos<strong>de</strong> los más <strong>de</strong>stacados helenistas <strong>de</strong> la Escuela <strong>de</strong> Altos <strong>Estudios</strong> <strong>de</strong> París,algo reconocible en sus temas, en la metodología aplicada e incluso en elestilo <strong>de</strong> su exposición. Observar esto invita a rememorar el momentoque, en los años que A. Iriarte investigaba sus propuestas, atravesaba elhelenismo francés. El impacto <strong>de</strong> las corrientes políticas surgidas <strong>de</strong> losúltimos años 60 le afectó como a tantas otras áreas <strong>de</strong> la reflexión intelectual,y a ello <strong>de</strong>be mucho el nuevo enfoque <strong>de</strong> cuestiones que previamentese veían <strong>de</strong> un modo meramente <strong>de</strong>scriptivo, anecdótico o, comomucho, psicologizante. Caso ejemplar es el <strong>de</strong> la reflexión crítica sobrela historia <strong>de</strong> la mujer, caso que, si tantas veces <strong>de</strong>rivaría en literaturarosa ((engagéen en esta obra propicia observar las dimensiones <strong>de</strong> untura rosa «engagée» en esta obra propicia observar las dimensiones <strong>de</strong> unproblema más que subjetivo. Pero probablemente ese momento estuvomucho más <strong>de</strong>notado por una brillante fructificación <strong>de</strong>l encuentro con elEstructuralismo, y que, sin embargo, ya comenzaba a ser matizado. Bienentendido, no se trata sólo <strong>de</strong>l encuentro con un estructuralismo básicamentemetodológico, que era anterior -al menos <strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> Gernet, si <strong>de</strong>jamoscomo marginal el caso peculiar <strong>de</strong> Dumézil-, sino, para bien y paramal, con el <strong>de</strong> reconocimiento más mundano en el París <strong>de</strong> entonces; loque fundamentalmente se refiere al estructuralismo antropológico y susperspectivas <strong>de</strong> interpretación <strong>de</strong>l tan frecuentado material mitográfico

Por muchas reticencias que provocara este encuentro, <strong>de</strong> él resultaronno pocas obras <strong>de</strong> un especial atractivo, capaz <strong>de</strong> renovar el interéspor el mundo antiguo en ambientes muy diversos. Sin embargo, ya porentonces, los helenistas que habían prestado mayor interés a las propuestas<strong>de</strong> la hermenéutica estructuralista comenzaban a estar <strong>de</strong> vuelta <strong>de</strong> algunos<strong>de</strong> sus más <strong>de</strong>stacados apriorismos.Las ventajas <strong>de</strong> haber asistido a ese momento crítico confluyen en laspropuestas <strong>de</strong> Las re<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong>l enigma porque <strong>de</strong>l antes hereda ese énfasis<strong>de</strong>l análisis estructuralista que aún invita a retener su estrategia metodológica;el característico y exhaustivo rastreo previo <strong>de</strong> la documentaciónsin hacerle fronteras, reuniendo como tantos fantasmáticos «débris» <strong>de</strong> loque significa los textos históricos y los <strong>de</strong> literatura, las enajenaciones filosóficasy los registros mitográficos, el pínax jurídico, el epitafio fúnebrey el acertijo atolondrado, los repertorios lexicográficos y los <strong>de</strong>splieguessemánticos, el dato <strong>de</strong>l rol sexual en la representación gráfica <strong>de</strong>l color <strong>de</strong>la piel o el <strong>de</strong> las <strong>de</strong>svergüenzas <strong>de</strong> las esfinges rampantes ... Por supuesto,<strong>de</strong> todo esto hay que proponer una configuración significante, paso que,en términos generales, ha abonado las más habituales críticas contra elmétodo estructuralista: su favoritismo por una sincronicidad ahistórica yel apriorismo en las pautas <strong>de</strong> or<strong>de</strong>nación <strong>de</strong> la documentación.Es discutible que la sincronicidad <strong>de</strong> un marco cultural <strong>de</strong>ba ser <strong>de</strong>satendidapor el historiador pero, por muchas afecciones que hayan mostradolos helenistas por el método estructuralista raramente han <strong>de</strong>jado <strong>de</strong>observar -y esto hasta el mismo Lévi-Strauss, agitador <strong>de</strong> la disputaquelo griego cuenta con algunas singularida<strong>de</strong>s a las que, sin apelar a lai<strong>de</strong>a <strong>de</strong> un incausado milagro, no se les aviene la i<strong>de</strong>ntificación mecánicacon las características <strong>de</strong> otras culturas observadas por la Antropologíacultural. Es <strong>de</strong>cir, por más que se la consi<strong>de</strong>re como un todo, la culturahelénica participa <strong>de</strong> una primera inflexión y, <strong>de</strong>spués, <strong>de</strong> un posterior<strong>de</strong>smembramiento entre cultivado prestigio y <strong>de</strong>solada supervivencia quesólo forzadamente se sustrae a enmarcarla en una Historia fluida y másaún, puesto que historia se refiere a un informe escrito, las singularida<strong>de</strong>s noestán menos marcadas por el hecho <strong>de</strong> que sus documentos están atrapadosen el juego <strong>de</strong> reflejos que autogenera la grafia.Así, Las re<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong>l enigma no se contenta, al propiciar el examen <strong>de</strong> laadscripción <strong>de</strong> la palabra oracular a la feminidad, con hacer una exposición<strong>de</strong> un eterno femenino griego atrapado, o con<strong>de</strong>nado, en un proverbialy confuso charlataneo. Lo cual, bajo ciertas hipótesis <strong>de</strong> trabajo, nosería muy difícil; ser <strong>de</strong> Naturaleza, cuya única salida era la domesticaciónmarital; la mujer griega, como toda mujer anterior a la revoluciónindustrial, pue<strong>de</strong> pasar como eminentemente exterior a la Historia. Sinembargo, la autora analiza previamente -haciendo historia- la adscripciónanterior <strong>de</strong>l enigma a unas formas <strong>de</strong> expresión sapiencia1 que no sehabían reducid? exclusivamente a un imaginario femenino sino mas bienal <strong>de</strong> una episteme anterior a la Razón <strong>de</strong> la Polis.
