CELEBRANDO A DIVERSIDADE - CELEBRATING DIVERSITY -8E L A N A V E V ACon mi nombramiento como Director en octubre de 2007, el Presidente del Consorcio, Alexandre Sánchez Vidal, y el Consejo Rector del Festival expresaron su voluntad de dar un giro profesional alFestival que sirviese no sólo a Ourense como celebración del arte cinematográfico sino también a toda Galicia y a todos los profesionales como herramienta para el desarrollo del cine y del audiovisualgallegos decididamente insertados en el panorama europeo e internacional.A nadie escapa la magnitud de la ambición para un pequeño Festival que de pronto pretende navegar, como la gran nave de Fellini, en las aguas cambiantes y complejas del audiovisual internacional,con sus majors, festivales glamourosos, televisiones en feroz competencia y super-mercados de vieja tradición.La propuesta es sencilla, juntarnos para hablar y disfrutar de las películas más novedosas y controvertidas de los 4 puntos cardinales haciendo del Festival un punto de encuentro en el queprofesionales gallegos, europeos, latinoamericanos y del mundo podamos encontrarnos para celebrar talleres, charlas y conferencias profesionales con notables creadores y expertos del audiovisual.La Selección Oficial, la competitiva y la temática paralela, son en sí mismas toda una celebración de la Diversidad Cultural, que la Unión Europea proclama este 2008 declarándolo Año Europeo delDiálogo Intercultural.Para quienes vienen desde otras culturas nuestro regalo es Panorama Galicia, la muestra paralela que exhibe lo más innovador del cine y audiovisuales gallegos.Para el público de Ourense y Galicia, que disfruten de una selección que en cada película refleja el valor y riqueza de la diversidad cultural de razas, de lenguas, de género, que sin duda alguna esla mejor contribución de los cineastas para que las diversas culturas del mundo se entiendan entre sí y compartan sus preocupaciones, anhelos y emociones más allá de las fronteras.Para todos nuestros invitados nuestra inmensa gratitud a los directores, productores, actores, técnicos y distribuidores de todo el mundo que tan generosamente han contribuido enviando sus trabajos.Y gracias especiales para los amigos de esta gran familia del cine europeo, latinoamericano y mundial que han accedido a ayudarnos y acompañarnos en esta 13 edición. La nave va.E L A N A V E V A / A N D T H E S H I P G O E S O NE n r i q u e N i c a n o rD I R E C T O R - G E R E N T E D E L F E S T I V A LWith my appointment as Director last October, 2007, Alexandre Sánchez Vidal, the Chairman of the Consortium, and the Governing Council of the Festival expressed their will to provide the OurenseInternational Film Festival with a professional orientation to serve not only the Ourense audiences, but the whole of Galicia and its film professionals in the development of their films and audiovisualworks in cooperation with their European and international colleagues.\No one can ignore the magnitude of this ambition for a small scale Festival suddenly determined to navigate, like Fellini’s great ship, through the changing and complex waters of the internationalaudiovisual panorama, with its glamourous celebrations, fiercely competing television stations and strongly based market places.Our proposal is simple: let’s get together to watch and talk about the most innovative films from around the world, turning the Festival into a meeting point where professionals from Europe, LatinAmerica, Galicia and the world can get together to celebrate workshops, talks and professional panels leaded by key creators and experts of the audiovisual field.\he Competition Official Selection as well as the Thematic Sections are a celebration of the Cultural Diversity that the European Union is highlighting this year, which has been declared EuropeanYear of Intercultural Dialogue.For those coming from other cultures, our gift is Panorama Galicia, a showcase happening concurrently with the screening of of the newest Galician film and audiovisual creations.For the Ourense and Galician audiences we aim to offer a variety of choices that reflects, through every single film, the value and richness of cultural diversity coming from different races, languagesand genres.
