Developmentalconcepts and clinical psychopathology.C<strong>la</strong>udia Capel<strong>la</strong> (1) , Marce<strong>la</strong> Mendoza (2) .RESUMENEl presente artículo revisa los principales conocimientos que se han generado en los últimosaños a nivel internacional y nacional respecto a <strong>la</strong> regu<strong>la</strong>ción emocional. Se <strong>de</strong>fine el concepto y<strong>la</strong>s principales estrategias <strong>de</strong> regu<strong>la</strong>ción emocional en niños y adolescentes, los factores involucradosen <strong>la</strong> regu<strong>la</strong>ción emocional, así como su <strong>de</strong>sarrollo a través <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong>s distintas etapas evolutivas.Se revisan <strong>la</strong>s investigaciones que han estudiado <strong>la</strong> re<strong>la</strong>ción entre regu<strong>la</strong>ción emocional,salud mental y psicopatología. Las conclusiones <strong>de</strong>stacan <strong>la</strong> relevancia <strong>de</strong> estos conocimientoscomo marco para <strong>la</strong> evaluación y tratamiento <strong>de</strong> dificulta<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong> regu<strong>la</strong>ción emocional en niñosy adolescentes.Pa<strong>la</strong>bras c<strong>la</strong>ves: regu<strong>la</strong>ción emocional, manejo emocional, disregu<strong>la</strong>ción emocional, afrontamientoemocional, inhibición emocional.ABSTRACTThis article is a review of the knowledge about emotion regu<strong>la</strong>tion <strong>de</strong>veloped in the <strong>la</strong>st yearsinternationally and in our country. The concept and main strategies of emotion regu<strong>la</strong>tion in childrenand adolescents are <strong>de</strong>fined, as well as the factors involved in emotion regu<strong>la</strong>tion, and it`sevolution in the different <strong>de</strong>velopmental stages. Research about the re<strong>la</strong>tion between emotionregu<strong>la</strong>tion, mental health and psychopathology are reviewed. A partir <strong>de</strong> lo anterior, se hacomenzado a estudiar <strong>la</strong> regu<strong>la</strong>ción emocional,enfocado en <strong>la</strong> forma en que <strong>la</strong>s personas<strong>de</strong>sarrol<strong>la</strong>n y utilizan distintas estrategias paralidiar con sus emociones <strong>de</strong> acuerdo a <strong>la</strong>s situacionesy contextos en los cuales se <strong>de</strong>senvuelven.Asimismo, se ha consi<strong>de</strong>rado a factoresque estarían involucrados en <strong>la</strong> regu<strong>la</strong>ciónemocional, así como también <strong>la</strong> re<strong>la</strong>ción entreésta, <strong>la</strong> salud mental y <strong>la</strong> psicopatología.En Chile, es escasa <strong>la</strong> información con <strong>la</strong> cualse cuenta respecto a este tema. Es por esto,155
