Revista Latinoamericana de Ortodoncia y OdontopediatríaDepósito Legal Nº: pp200102CS997 - ISSN: 1317-5823 – www.ortodoncia.wsPágina | 2ABSTRACConsidering the frequency of transverse alterations that appear in the dentist Consultation, itis necessary to realize a good differential diagnosis, taking as a base a study of themeasurements of intercanine and intermolar wide and its interrelation as cause of maloclussionconsidering the different variables (age, sex) then to plan the most indicated treatment plan.The objective of this investigation is to know the transverse measurements of the models, bymeans of the measurements of the intercanine and intermolar wide in patients from 5 to 10years, of the diplomat course of interceptive orthodontics year 2007.There was studied the population of 90 children boys and girls between 5 and 10 years of ageand was take a sample of 44 patients' moulds to be studied in the diplomat course ofinterceptive orthodontics, on which we measure intercanine and intermolar wide, taking as areference the method of Moyers and cols, measuring in straight line the top of the cuspids ofthe canines of both sides for the intercanine wide, and for the intermolar wide was measuredfrom the central phossa of the last present molar to the central phossa of the molar of anotherside. To calculate the possible discrepancy, for absence or excess of transverse growth, in theanalyzed patientCONCLUSIONS: This analysis allows to realize a better diagnosis and plan of treatments inearly ages for the correction of transverse alterations.Key words: Cross-sectional Measurements, Intercanine Wide, Intermolar Wide, Cross Bite,DisjunctionINTRODUCCIÓNSon varios los cambios dimensionales y morfológicos que sufren lo arcos dentales a lo largo delos años, trayendo como consecuencia mayores alteraciones en los períodos de crecimiento dedentición temprana y mixta. Estas alteraciones han sido analizadas a través de estudioslongitudinales y transversales por diversos investigadores.Es de gran importancia que el odontólogo general del diplomado de ortodoncia interceptivaU.G.M.A 2007, conozca y aplique las mediciones del ancho intercanino e intermolar, en elanálisis de modelos de los pacientes de edades tempranas (5 a 10 años) evaluados en dichodiplomado, teniendo presente las definiciones de los siguientes términos:Distancia Intercanina: Es la distancia lineal entre las cimas de las cúspides de los caninoscentrales, o en el caso de faceta de desgaste se toma en centro de la superficie de desgaste,producido por la función masticatoria. (11).Distancia Intermolar: Es la distancia lineal entre la fosa mesial del molar derecho al molarizquierdo en sus caras oclusales.
