6.2. Weather dependent precautions6.3. Selecting a location in cold climates■■■Select a place where the rain can be avoided as much aspossible.Since drain flows out of the outdoor unit, do not place anythingunder the unit which must be kept away from moisture.Ensure that water cannot cause any damage to the location byadding water drains to the foundation and prevent water traps inthe construction.1 If the water drainage of the unit is not easy, please build up theunit on a foundation of concrete blocks, etc. (the height of thefoundation should be maximum 5.9 inch (150 mm)).■■■NOTEWhen operating the unit in a low outdoor ambienttemperature, be sure to follow the instructionsdescribed below.To prevent exposure to wind, install the unit with its suction sidefacing the wall.Never install the unit at a site where the suction side may beexposed directly to wind.To prevent exposure to wind, install a baffle plate on the airdischarge side of the outdoor unit.2 If you install the unit on a frame, please install a waterproof platewithin 5.9 inch (150 mm) of the underside of the unit in order toprevent the invasion of water from the lower direction.NOTEMind the restrictions: refer to "6.4. Installing near a wallor obstacle" on page 53 If you install the unit on a building frame,please install a waterproof plate within5.9 inch (150 mm) of the underside of theunit in order to avoid the drainwaterdripping.■In heavy snowfall areas it is very important to select aninstallation site where the snow will not affect the unit:■When installing the unit in a place exposed to strong wind, payspecial attention to the following:1 Strong winds of 16.40 ft/sec (5 m/sec) or more blowing againstthe unit's air outlet causes short circuit (suction of discharge air),and this may have the following consequences:- Deterioration of the operational capacity.- Frequent frost acceleration in heating operation.- Disruption of operation due to rise of high pressure.- When a strong wind blows continuously on the face of theunit, the fan can start rotating very fast until it breaks.2 Refer to the figure below for installation of this unit in a placewhere the wind direction can be foreseen.■Install a baffle plate on the air discharge side of the outdoor unit:1 Construct a large canopy.2 Construct a pedestal.Install the unit high enough off the ground to prevent buryingin snow.126.4. Precautions oninstallation location" on page 4 to select an appropriate location.1 Check the strength and level of the installation ground so thatthe unit will not cause any operating vibration or noise afterinstallation.6.5. Additional precautionsIt is recommended to install the equipment and electric wires keepingproper distances away from stereo equipment, personal computers,etc... In extreme circumstances you shall keep distances of 9.84 ft(3 m) or more and use conduit tubes for power and transmissionlines.■■■■■Do not install the unit in places often used as work place.In case of construction works (e.g. grinding works) where a lot ofdust is created, the unit must be covered.Do not place any objects or equipment on top of the unit (topplate).Do not climb, sit or stand on top of the unit,Be sure that sufficient precautions are taken, in accordance withthe applicable legislation, in case of refrigerant leakage.2 Prepare 4 sets of 0.31 inch [close to 5/16 inch] (M8) or 0.39 inch[close to 3/8 inch] (M10) foundation bolts, nuts and washerseach (field supply).3 Fix the unit securely by means of the foundation bolts inaccordance with the figure below.It is best to screw in the foundation bolts until their lengthremains 0.79 inch (20 mm) above the foundation surface.Outdoor installation drawingunit: inch (mm)0.79 inch(20 mm)17. <strong>INSTALLATION</strong> OF THE UNIT7.1. Unpacking the unitCheck if all unit accessories are enclosed.WARNINGTear apart and throw away plastic packaging bags so thatchildren will not play with them. Children playing withplastic bags face danger of death by suffocation.7.2. InspectionAt delivery, the unit must be checked and any damage must bereported immediately to the carrier's claims agent.327.3. Handling the unitAs shown in the figure below, bring the unit slowly by grabbing the leftand right grips.612.99 (330)22.83 (580) 4.72 (120)54Do not hold the suction inlet in the side of the casing, otherwise thecasing could be deformed.CAUTIONTo avoid injury, do not touch the air inlet or aluminium finsof the unit.1 Wrap the insulation pipe with finishing tape from bottom to top.2 Stop valve cover3 9.84 inch (250 mm) from wall. Allow space for piping and electricalservicing.4 If there is danger of the unit falling or overturning, fix the unit withfoundation bolts, or with wire or other means.5 Distance from the outer side of the stop valve cover6 If the location does not have good drainage, place the unit onblock bases. Adjust foot height until the unit is levelled.
