By changing colour or temperature, light builds emotions and relationships. The light radiations reaching our eyes are transformed into electric impulses and transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve. From here a series of inputs are originated and transmitted to the entire body. In particular, when the impulses reach the hypothalamus they determine an increase in serotonin, a neurotransmitter that controls moods. When the impulses reach the epiphysis we have a reduction in melatonin, a hormone sensitive to the day-night cycle. The consequence of these neurophysiological reactions is a significant mood swing depending on the quantity and quality of light to which an individual is exposed. Designing light for people means outreaching the purely functional aspects of lighting and embracing a broader dimension, with a new attention towards perceptive experience. Artemide’s knowledge and awareness on this topic led to the implementation of innovative lighting systems. This is associated with the research developed from the 1990s to the present day with universities, research centres and experts in various scientific disciplines (medicine, biology, psychology, anthropology). Metamorfosi, A.l.s.o. and Tunable White combine technological innovation and attention to people and their psychological needs. They are not products, but ways of creating tunable light settings in order to experience the relationship with light through a conscious and direct interaction. Les radiations lumineuses qui atteignent nos yeux sont transformées en impulsions électriques et transmises au cerveau par le nerf optique. Le cerveau émet alors une série d’ordres qui sont transmis à tout l’organisme. En particulier, quand les impulsions atteignent l’hypothalamus, elles provoquent une augmentation de la sérotonine, un neurotransmetteur voué au contrôle de l’humeur. Quand les impulsions atteignent l’épiphyse, on assiste à une réduction de la mélatonine, une hormone sensible au cycle jour-nuit. La conséquence de ces réactions neurophysiologiques est une variation significative de l’humeur en fonction de la quantité et de la qualité de lumière à laquelle un individu est exposé. Concevoir la lumière pour l’homme c’est aller au-delà de l’aspect purement fonctionnel de l’éclairage et appréhender une dimension plus ample qui aboutit à une nouvelle attention pour l’expérience perceptive. Liées aux recherches réalisées depuis les années 90 avec les universités, les centres de recherche et les experts de différentes disciplines scientifiques (médecine, biologie, psychologie, anthropologie), la connaissance et la conscience dont Artemide fait preuve sur cette question ont abouti au développement de systèmes d’éclairage novateurs. Metamorfosi, A.l.s.o. et Tunable White constituent une synthèse entre l’innovation technologique et l’attention prêtée à l’homme et à ses besoins psychologiques et physiologiques. Ce ne sont pas des produits mais des moyens de créer des cadres lumineux variables, avec lesquels il est possible d’interagir et de vivre le rapport avec la lumière d’une manière nouvelle, plus directe et consciente. Licht für den Menschen zu planen bedeutet daher,über den rein funktionellen Aspekt einer Beleuchtung hinauszugehen und eine weitreichendere Dimension zu berücksichtigen, die nach einer neuen Aufmerksam für die Gefühlserfahrung verlangt. Das Wissen und das Bewusstsein von Artemide zu diesem Thema sowie mit den seit den 90er Jahren bis heute in Zusammenarbeit mit Universitäten, Forschungszentren, verschiedenen Fachwissenschaftlern (Medizinern, Biologen, Psychologen, Anthropologen) getätigten Forschungsarbeiten haben zur Entwicklung innovativer Beleuchtungssysteme geführt. Metamorfosi, A.l.s.o. und Tunable White sind das Ergebnis technologischer Innovation und der dem Menschen und seinen psychologischen und physiologischen Bedürfnissen zugewandten Aufmerksamkeit. Es sind keine Produkte, sondern Mittel zur Schaffung variabler Lichtszenarien, mit denen interagiert und die Beziehung zum Licht neu, direkter und bewusster ausgelebt werden kann. Diseñar la luz para el ser humano significa dejar atrás el aspecto meramente funcional de la iluminación y abrazar una nueva dimensión más amplia y atenta a la experiencia perceptiva. Los conocimientos de Artemide en la materia, al igual que su concienciación, están vinculados a las investigaciones que la firma viene llevando a cabo, desde los años 90 hasta la fecha, en colaboración con universidades, centros de investigación y expertos en distintas ramas de la ciencia (medicina, biología, psicología y antropología). Gracias a los mismos, ha sido posible desarrollar sistemas de iluminación innovadores. Metamorfosi, A.l.s.o. y Tunable White son la síntesis entre la innovación tecnológica y la atención que la firma presta al ser humano y a sus necesidades psicológicas y fisiológicas.
