- Severe Accident Guideline.
This involves training the TSC (Emergency
Technical Support Center) members and control
room personnel with nuclear facility licenses. The
training program contents are basically the same as
the generic WOG training guidelines, tailored to
Almaraz NPP. The training program began in
February 1999 and will end in June 2000, the date
on which the severe accident guidelines will take
effect.
- Maintenance Rule Implementation.
The maintenance rule required in conformance
with 10 CFR 50.65 is already implemented in
Almaraz NPP. It began to be put into practice in the
month of April 1999; as of that month, the procedure
“Evaluation of Safety Functions in ESC Unloading"
began to be used.
- Partial RCM (RELIABILITY CENTERED
MAINTENANCE) Implementation. Reliability-based
Maintenance Study

de residuos sólidos de baja
actividad, las cuales suponen un total
de 1.725 bidones de 220 litros.
La ocupación del almacén temporal
de dichos residuos, al finalizar el
período es del 32,1%.

Almaraz. El programa de formación
ha dado comienzo en febrero de
1999, y finalizará en junio del
2000, fecha en que entrarán en vigor
las guías de accidentes severos.

In addition, the most significant projects currently
underway include the following:
- Mounting of new control room air conditioning
unit.
A third air conditioning unit is being installed in
the control room.
Unlike the existing ones, this unit is conventional
and non-safety related, and it will operate
continually during normal plant operation, whereas
the other two units would be available for operation
when required by the following causes: shutdown of
the new unit, safety injection signal, high radiation
or outside power loss.
The new air conditioning unit, with a free cooling
system, will permit some energy and thus economic
savings, as it will cool the Control Room solely with
outside air without requiring operation of the water
cooling unit, provided that external ambient
conditions are inferior to those in the Control Room.
En lo que se refiere a la ocupación
de las piscinas con residuos de
alta actividad (elementos de combustible
gastado) es del 41,68% en
la Unidad I y del 37,69% en la
Unidad II.
RESULTADOS 1999
La gestión y operación de ambos
reactores de la central logró alcanzar
una produccción bruta total
producción bruta total de
15.645.329 MWh., con un factor
de operación conjunto de 93,38 %,
y con un saldo final de 3 paradas
automáticas totales. En lo que se refiere
a los proyectos más significativos
finalizados en el año 1999, cabe
citar:
- Guía de accidentes severos.
Consiste en formar a los miembros
de CAT (Centro de Apoyo
Técnico en Emergencia) y al personal
de sala de control con licencia
- Implantación regla de mantenimiento.
La regla de mantenimiento que
exige el cumplimiento con el 10
CFR 50.65, está ya implantada en
C.N. Almaraz. Su puesta en práctica
se inició el mes de abril de
1999; a partir de dicho mes comenzó
a utilizarse el procedimiento de
"Evaluación de funciones de seguridad
en el descargo de ESC".
- Implantación parcial RCM (RE-
LIABILITY CENTERED MAINTE-
NANCE) Estudio el mantenimiento
centrado en la fiabilidad
También deben destacarse los siguientes
proyectos más significativos
cuya ejecución está en curso:
- Montaje de nueva unidad aire
acondicionado sala de control.
Consiste en instalar una tercera
unidad de aire acondicionado en
sala de control.
- Periodic Safety Review.
This consists of an evaluation of plant safety and
radiological protection, which takes into account
operating experience, equipment performance,
impact of regulatory changes, and results of
probabilistic safety analyses (PSA). It is required for
the temporary operating license application.
- Plant Life Management.
This project develops the preliminary activities
required to begin tracking, evaluating and
diagnosing the aging of components that affect the
plant’s effective lifetime, so that corrective measures
can be taken to maintain and extend their safety
levels and thus guarantee an effective lifetime of 40
years, and also technically prepare the plant and
leave open the possibility of extending the lifetime
beyond 40 years.
- Environmental Management System (SIGMA).
The Environmental Management System (SIGMA)
is the part of the company’s general management
system that defines its environmental policy and
addresses the issues described in standard ISO-
14001.
- Design Base Review.
In keeping with the commitment that the Spanish
nuclear industry assumed with the Consejo de
