CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
PROGRAM
As part of the Participation and
Continuous Management Improvement
Program that Cofrentes has been
developing for the last six years, four
new improvement projects were
completed in 1999, which means that
46 projects have been concluded since
the beginning.
At the end of 1999, the Plant had a
total of 82 teams working on different
issues.
In general, implementation of the
results obtained by these plant
management improvement teams can
be considered as highly positive.
AENOR CERTIFICATIONS
The Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant has been
certified by the Asociación Española de
Normalización y Certificación for two Standards:
ISO-9001 and ISO-14000.
In 1999, the Plant achieved all the objectives and
successfully passed the system renewal audit by
Aenor in November. It also changed over from
UNE-77-801 to ISO-14001 without any problems.
COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES
As part of the program of plant visits, 149 group
visits with a total of 5,050 people were received
during 1999, as well as 132 individual visits, which
add up to a total of 5,182 people received during
the year. Accumulated from source, the Plant has
had a total of 220,551 visitors since the Information
Center opened.
By collectives, more than 121,000 visitors have
been students, accounting for 54% of the total and
thus the segment of population that has visited us
the most. They are followed by 76,000 people
belonging to different cultural, sports and charitable
associations, as well as housewives, retirees, etc.,
accounting for 34%; 20,000 people (9%) from other
collectives such as corporate
groups; and almost 7,000
individual visits accounting
for 3%.
ELEVENTH REFUELING
As I mentioned previously,
the other major event in 1999
concerning Plant operation
was the 11th Refueling.
Downloading operations
were begun on April 10 to
disconnect the Unit, and it
remained off-line until May
7. The final refueling duration
was 27 days, during which
time we had to develop more
than 7,000 scheduled
activities or jobs. The major
or most significant activities
included the following:
• Substitution of 184 type
SVEA96 /LK2+ fuel assemblies
of the 624 that form that
reactor core.

Durante el proyecto se han cumplido
fielmente todos los requisitos
que el Consejo de Seguridad
Nuclear ha exigido en múltiples
inspecciones y auditorías a la
Central en los meses previos al final
del año 1999 con un seguimiento
permanente de todo el Programa de
implantación del Proyecto.
De una manera resumida, bastaría
con recordar que hemos realizado
273 revisiones en aplicaciones
informáticas, equipos y sistemas;
que hemos tenido involucradas permanentemente
en el Proyecto a 15
personas en la Planta; y que hemos
invertido 107 Millones de pesetas
(sin contabilizar horas/hombre).
Estos esfuerzos nos ha permitido superar
la transición al año 2000 sin

Dentro del Programa
de Participación y
Mejora Continua de
la Gestión que
Cofrentes viene desarrollando
desde
hace seis años, en
1999 se ha logrado
el cierre de cuatro
nuevos proyectos de
mejora, de modo
que el número de
proyectos cerrados
al origen asciende a 46.
En total la Central contaba a finales
del año 1999 con 82 Equipos
trabajando en diferentes temas.
En general, la implantación de los
resultados obtenidos por estos
Equipos de Mejora en la gestión de
la planta puede considerarse altamente
positiva.
CERTIFICACIONES DE AENOR
La Central Nuclear de Cofrentes
tiene acreditadas dos certificaciones
por parte de la Asociación Española
de Normalización y Certificación
(AENOR) para las Normas ISO-
9001 e ISO-14000.
En 1999 se han cumplido todos
los objetivos y se ha superado con
éxito, en noviembre, la auditoría de
renovación del Sistema por parte de
Aenor, al tiempo que se ha realizado
la adaptación a la
Norma ISO-14001 desde
UNE-77-801 sin problemas.
