Main activities: The program inclu<strong>de</strong>s, but is not limited<br />
to, the following high-level activities:<br />
• Reinforcing prevention activities across the<br />
country, focusing mainly on the following risk<br />
groups: intravenous drug users, homosexual<br />
men and women, transsexuals, bisexuals,<br />
commercial sex workers, and prison inmates<br />
• Curbing the spread of mother-to-child<br />
transmission<br />
• Executing prevention campaigns for the general<br />
popu<strong>la</strong>tion, especially to target people living<br />
un<strong>de</strong>r poverty and extreme poverty as well as<br />
children, teenagers and young adults<br />
• Extending the fight against opportunistic<br />
infections<br />
• Facilitating access to male and female condoms<br />
• Promoting the adoption of children orphaned<br />
due to HIV/AIDS<br />
• Supporting shelters and orphanages that house<br />
HIV-positive children<br />
• Facilitating access to testing for pregnant<br />
women<br />
• Improving the quality of counseling services in<br />
treatment centers<br />
• Strengthening systems that promote adherence<br />
to treatment<br />
• Training health professionals, patients and their<br />
families on topics re<strong>la</strong>ted to antiretroviral therapy<br />
and the treatment of opportunistic diseases<br />
• Strengthening systems to monitor resistance to<br />
antiretroviral therapy<br />
• Improving the current structures to <strong>de</strong>tect and<br />
treat the double infection of HIV and<br />
tuberculosis.<br />
• Upgrading logistical systems for the distribution<br />
of health products<br />
• Reinforcing epi<strong>de</strong>miological vigi<strong>la</strong>nce nationwi<strong>de</strong><br />
