Austin: All passenger vehicles in Texas must undergo a 20 point inspection once a year. <br />

Those registered in Williamson and Travis counties (which contain most of Austin) must <br />

also pass an emissions test. <br />

Baton Rouge: Vehicles must pass a TNAC or third party administered safety and general <br />

appearance inspection. <br />

California: Vehicles must pass a 19-­‐point inspection. <br />

Chattanooga: Vehicles must be rust free and must pass a 21 point inspection (22 for <br />

wheelchair accessible vehicles). <br />

Chicago A&B: 21 point inspections (22 for wheelchair-­‐accessible vehicles) <br />

Colorado: Vehicles must pass a 19-­‐point inspection. The regulator also may inspect them at <br />

any time. <br />

Columbus: Vehicle must pass inspection specified by regulator. The regulator will also re-­inspect<br />

all vehicles at least once during the licen<strong>sin</strong>g term, for a total of two inspections per <br />

year. The inspecting mechanic may not be employed by the driver / peer to peer company, <br />

or have a vested interest in the driver, peer to peer company, or the owner of the vehicle. <br />

Vehicles that fail an inspection can only be re-­‐inspected by the mechanic that failed them. <br />

Dallas: A 31 point inspection is required. <br />

DC: Vehicles must pass a certified mechanic administered safety and general appearance <br />

inspection. This is not required if the vehicle is compliant with an annual state-­‐required <br />

inspection. <br />

Detroit: The regulator has discretion over the requirements of vehicle inspections. At the <br />

very least, they must include a standard 19-­‐point inspection. <br />

Houston: Depending on which is applicable at the time, a vehicle may not be in service if its <br />

AC or heating is not functioning. Vehicles are subject to a 20-­‐point inspection. <br />

Oklahoma City: Inspections are carried out by the city at renewal. Vehicles that are three <br />

model years old or older and those with more than 150,000 miles require an additional <br />

inspection by an ASE certified master technician. Additionally all vehicles that are involved <br />

in an accident where more than cosmetic damage is suffered must be inspected by the city <br />

and an ASE certified master technician before returning to service. <br />

Milwaukee: Inspections are carried out by the city at random or in response to complaints. <br />

Minneapolis: Vehicle inspection guidelines are not set in the regulations and will be <br />

determined by the regulator. <br />

Seattle: The inspecting mechanic/technician may not own, lease, or drive a vehicle for hire.
