Ambas aleaciones aluminio-bronce y cobre-berilio tienen porcentajes de cobre superiores al 65%. La razón no estriba en que una chispa de cobre berilio tenga la suficiente energia como para provocar la ignición del acetileno, sino que el cobre puede reaccionar con el acetileno creando acetilitas altamente explosivas de por si. Por este motivo, se desaconseja el uso de cualquiera de las aleaciones de cobre berilio o aluminio bronce en ambientes de acetileno.
