INTERNAcionaLIZACIÓN Y CAPITAL HUMANO
4.2. Instrumentation
Instrumentation included the NEO FFI (McCrae, R. R. & Costa,
P. T., February 2004). The NEO FFI is a 120-item, paper and pencil (or
online) instrument which measures the five major personality dimensions
of the Five Factor Model (FFI) (see appendix 1). The NEO-FFI
with 120 items was designed to take 10-15 rather than 45-60 minutes
to administer and has been well established as a tool for training
purposes. This test was revised in 2004 (McCrae, R. R. & Costa, P. T.,
February 2004).
The internal consistency 5 information of the NEO presented in the
manual was derived from the full job performance sample (n= 1,539).
The internal consistency of the NEO was high, at: Neuroticism (N)
= 0.92, Extroversion (E) = 0.89, Openness to experience (O) = 0.87,
Agreeableness (A) = 0.86, Conscientiousness (C) = .90. The internal
consistency of the facet scales ranged from 0.56 to 0.81, although Costa
and McCrae remind us that there are only 8 items on each facet. For the
NEO FFI the internal consistencies reported in the manual were: N=
0.79, E= 0.79, O= 0.80, A= 0.75, C= 0.83. In the literature, the NEO
FFI seems to be used as a whole more often, with investigators using
the NEO PI-R usually using the items from just the domains they are
interested in. A recent article using the NEO FFI to study perfectionism
had the internal consistencies at: N= 0.85, E= 0.80, O= 0.68, A=
0.75, C= 0.83 (Sherry, Hewitt, Flett, Lee-Baggley & Hall 2007).
4.3. Research design
This research involved a pre and post test repeated measures design.
All trainees in the trained group completed the NEO FFI two weeks
prior to attending the intercultural training. The control group employees
were asked to complete the NEO FFI at the same time, (i.e.) middle of
November 2009. According to Solomon Protocol this study used two
comparison groups (1) Trainees or future expatriates participating in
Intercultural training, enrolled in language and conversation classes of
5
A measure based on the correlations between different items on the same
test (or the same subscale on a larger test). It measures whether several items that
propose to measure the same general construct produce similar scores.
