Hypothesis 3 is therefore accepted and it is concluded that the intercultural
communicative competence makes the general (a), social (b) and job
(c) adaptation of the expatriate easier.
We share the point of view of the authors who have researched into the adaptation of the
expatriate who agree on the need for further research into the factors involved in the
process of adaptation. This paper only offers some results within the great complexity of
this process.
Significant variables appear in bold type.
1) Considering the results of the factor analysis of the adaptation construct we can
confirm hypothesis 1 and corroborate the three dimensions of the expatriate’s adaptation
stated by Black et al. (1991): general adaptation, social adaptation and job adaptation.
The general adaptation is identified as the most influential one.
2) According to the factor analysis of the intercultural communicative competence
scales, five clearly different factors were identified which confirm the Hypothesis 2. That
is, five dimensions or factors form the competence: Intercultural Sensitivity, Cultural
