MEVt:H KUF'ff:KMAJ'II was born in Manhattan in 1926. He received his<br />
education at the High School of Music and Art and at Queens College. He Is<br />
entirely self-taught In music composition. t1e has been Professor of Chamber<br />
Music and ComlXlSition at Sarah Lawrence College since 195 L where he<br />
also served as chairman of the music department for five terms. Mr.<br />
Kupferman has been awardw gmnts and fellowshill" from the GU!J}enheim<br />
Foundation, the Fool Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation. the National<br />
Endowment for the Arts, and the American Academy and Institute of Arts<br />
and Letters. He is a virutoso darlnetist who has premiered over sb:.ty solo<br />

A forty year retrospective of his keyooard music was performed during a nine concert tour by pianist<br />
Christopher Vassiliades. Some 0( his experimental "''Orks in tapeijeStalt form includes such pieces as<br />
Celestial 0Iy, Angel footprints. Super.flute and lIIusions. Among his film scores are such pictures as Black<br />
Uke Me, Malleluja The Mills, Blast of Silence and the Truman Caopote film Trilogy. which indudes the<br />

Su inte r~ por la muslca de camara 10 ha lIevado a parlicipar en diversos grupos, entre los que se<br />
destacan Cuarteto latinoamericano, Grupo Da Capo, La Camerata, etc.<br />
Junto con eI guitamsta Jaime Marquez ha realizado una intensa labor de difusiOn de \a muslca mexlcana<br />
del Siglo Xl(. Re6entemente grabaron j untos con la Orquesta Filarm60ka de Queritaro eI Conderto para<br />
2 guitarras y orquesta de Manuel Emiquez (obra dedicada a ellos). Ade:mas cuenta con un disco de mUsk:a<br />
mexicana en la serie voz Viva de Mhioo editado por \a UNAM.<br />
