This course has been designed for students who are basic<br />

users of the English language. The course aims to develop<br />

students’ knowledge and skills at the high-intermediate<br />

level (B2), according to the Common European<br />

Framework of Reference (CEF).<br />

After the course, students will understand the main<br />

ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract<br />

topics, including technical discussions in his/her field<br />

of specialization. They will be able to interact with a<br />

degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular<br />

interaction with native speakers quite possible without<br />

strain for either party. Students will be able to produce<br />

clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain<br />

a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and<br />

disadvantages of various options. In sum, students will<br />

acquire the competencies they require to continue with<br />

their formal education in this foreign language, as part of<br />

their respective programs at ULACIT. This course has<br />

been enriched by the addition of self-study exercises on a<br />

CD and through an online language lab.<br />

This course has been designed for students who are<br />

independent users of the English language. The course<br />

aims to develop students’ knowledge and skills at the<br />

low-advanced level (C1), according to the Common<br />

European Framework of Reference (CEF). It focuses on<br />

developing students’ ability to write in academic English,<br />

through themes relating to global issues.<br />

After the course, students will understand a wide range of<br />

demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning.<br />

They should be able to express themselves fluently and<br />

spontaneously without much obvious searching for<br />

expressions. They should be able to use language flexibly<br />

and effectively for social, academic, and professional<br />

purposes. Students should also be able to produce clear,<br />

well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects,<br />

showing controlled use of organizational patterns,<br />

connectors, and cohesive devices.<br />

In sum, students will acquire the competencies they<br />

require to continue with their formal education in this<br />

foreign language, as part of their respective programs at<br />

ULACIT.<br />
