This course has been designed for students who are basic
users of the English language. The course aims to develop
students’ knowledge and skills at the high-intermediate
level (B2), according to the Common European
Framework of Reference (CEF).
After the course, students will understand the main
ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract
topics, including technical discussions in his/her field
of specialization. They will be able to interact with a
degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular
interaction with native speakers quite possible without
strain for either party. Students will be able to produce
clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain
a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and
disadvantages of various options. In sum, students will
acquire the competencies they require to continue with
their formal education in this foreign language, as part of
their respective programs at ULACIT. This course has
been enriched by the addition of self-study exercises on a
CD and through an online language lab.

This course has been designed for students who are
independent users of the English language. The course
aims to develop students’ knowledge and skills at the
low-advanced level (C1), according to the Common
European Framework of Reference (CEF). It focuses on
developing students’ ability to write in academic English,
through themes relating to global issues.
After the course, students will understand a wide range of
demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning.
They should be able to express themselves fluently and
spontaneously without much obvious searching for
expressions. They should be able to use language flexibly
and effectively for social, academic, and professional
purposes. Students should also be able to produce clear,
well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects,
showing controlled use of organizational patterns,
connectors, and cohesive devices.
In sum, students will acquire the competencies they
require to continue with their formal education in this
foreign language, as part of their respective programs at
ULACIT.
