This course has been designed for students who have had<br />
some exposure to the language and who have limited<br />
functional ability to communicate with what they know.<br />
The course aims to develop students’ knowledge and<br />
skills at the high-beginner’s level (A2), according to the<br />
Common European Framework of Reference (CEF).<br />
After the course, students will understand sentences<br />
and frequently used expressions related to areas of most<br />
immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family<br />
information, shopping, local geography, employment).<br />
They will communicate in simple and routine tasks<br />
requiring a simple and direct exchange of information<br />
on familiar and routine matters, as well as describe in<br />
simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate<br />
environment and matters in areas of immediate need.<br />
In sum, students will acquire the competencies they<br />
require to continue with their formal education in this<br />
foreign language, as part of their respective programs<br />
at ULACIT. This course has been enriched through an<br />
online language lab.<br />

This course has been designed for students who are basic<br />
users of the English language. The course aims to develop<br />
students’ knowledge and skills at the low-intermediate<br />
level (B1), according to the Common European<br />
Framework of Reference (CEF).<br />
After the course, students will understand the main points<br />
of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly<br />
encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Students will<br />
also be able to deal with most situations likely to arise<br />
whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.<br />
They will know how to produce simple connected text<br />
on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interest.<br />
Students will learn to describe experiences and events,<br />
dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and<br />
explanations for opinions and plans.<br />
In sum, students will acquire the competencies they<br />
require to continue with their formal education in this<br />
foreign language, as part of their respective programs at<br />
ULACIT. This course has been enriched by the addition<br />
of self-study exercises on a CD and through an online<br />
language lab.<br />
