The National Institute for Agricultural and Food<br />

Research and Technology (<strong>INIA</strong>) is a Public Research<br />

Organization (OPI) of the Ministry of Science and<br />

Innovation. Its unique mandate entails a dual responsibility:<br />

1) as coordinator of the national network of<br />

agrifood research centres (harmonization, resource<br />

allocation, monitoring and evaluation of scientific and<br />

technical research activities) and 2) as an agrifood<br />

research institution, the execution of its own research<br />

and technology projects (including technology transfer)<br />

for which its General Deputy Directorate of<br />

Research and Technology (SGIT) is responsible.<br />

<strong>INIA</strong> financial resources<br />

<strong>INIA</strong> administered a total budget of 84.4 million<br />

Euros in <strong>2009</strong> (Chart 1).<br />
