10. Fermi surface determination of BISCO
superconductors using a high energy
resolution synchrotron radiation photoemission
During the last few years at LURE, our group has developed
an alternative method to the traditional angleresolved
photoemission (ARUPS), which allows to determine
directly contours of the Fermi Surface of any ordered
metallic material. This technique basically consists
in scanning automatically large portions of the reciprocal
space at fixed photoelectron energy. In this way we
can record two-dimensional images of photoelectron
intensity as a function of the wave vector parallel to the
surface. By synchrotron radiation ARUPS, we have performed
a complete k-space mapping of the Fermi
Surface of a Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+ (Bi2212) high Tc superconductor
at the optimum doping hole density (Tc = 91
K). We have measured the Fermi surface of the Bi2212
in the even (see figure below) and odd symmetry by
angle scanning photoemission using a high intensity
synchrotron radiation. We have used this approach to
discriminate the matrix element effects due to polarization
of the beam. The results provide a clear identification
to the key features related with quasiparticle
excitations in the high Tc superconductors
11. Determinación estructural empleando
la técnica de difracción de fotoelectrones
(PED)
materiales or incluso de capas crecidas in-situ ej.
Sn/Ge(111) o Sn/Si(111) [1].
11. Structural determination using photoelectron
diffraction technique
Photoelectron diffraction (PED) is a structural technique
recently developed which allows the determination with
high accuracy of the atoms position for different chemical
species present on the system. Our group perform
the photoelectron diffraction experiments in the
two possible modes: “energy scan m2ode” and “angular
scan mode”. In both cases the intensity of a core-level
photoelectron peak is studied as a function of electron
kinetic energy or as a function of the azimuthal or polar
angle respectively. The energy scan mode is mainly
used to determine the adsorption geometry of molecules
or atoms which are physisorbed or chemisorbed
while the angular scan mode is mainly used to determine
the order of the crystal growth mode of a defined
material. Our research interest focuses on the methodology
itself as well as on structure determinations of
various adsorption systems that are of chemical or
physical importance i.e. NH2/Si(111)[1], H2O/Si(100],
and the determination of the crystal structure of defined
materials or in-situ grown overlayers i.e.
Sn/Ge(111) o Sn/Si(111)[2].
