5. Nanoporous materials based on silica and silicates Among the new nanoporous materials recently developed in our group, we have prepared solids by delamination of montmorillonite and vermiculite 2:1 silicates exchanged with alkylammonium salts and using different metal alkoxides. We obtained 2D delaminated solids with anatase nanoparticles, with high surface area and photocatalytic activity of great interest in environmental decontamination (Green Chemistry). On the other hand, we have investigated the synthesis of small pore SiO 2 zeolites free of connectivity defects, the relationship between size and shape of the directing agent and the zeolite structure and the use of these materials for the separation of propene and propane, one of the most energy intensive processes in the petrochemical industry. We have also developed procedures for the confinement of active species in porous solids, both by direct synthesis (“bottle-around-a-ship”) and by postsynthesis treatments. 1. 6. Microporous solids The aim in this field points to the synthesis and structural study of new microporous materials (1, 2) , to induce or to improve their catalytic properties. We have been obtained and studied a new types of microporous solids. 1. Medina ME, Iglesias M, Gutierrez-Puebla E, Monge MA; JOURNAL OF MATERIALS CHEMISTRY 14 (2004) 845-850. 2.
