1. Estudio estructural y de propiedades
eléctricas en óxidos de cationes con
pares libres
1. Structure and electrical properties of
oxides with lone-pair cations
The mechanism of the ferro-paraelectric transition has
been studied in the new, Aurivillius-type phase
Bi 1.75
Te 0.25
SrNb 1.75
Hf 0.25
O 9
by means of Raman spectroscopy,
and hyperfine perturbed angular correlation,
from which structural Bi-Te disorder in the [(Bi, Te) 2
O 2
]
layer can be inferred. The Aurivillius-type oxides
Bi 2 VO 5.5 and Bi 2 VO 5 have been prepared as nanocrystalline
powders, amorphous to X-Rays. These samples irreversibly
transform into crystalline phases under highpressure
treatment, and become conductors, the electrical
conductivity being higher as the applied pressure
increases. The crystal structure of Sb 1.82 As 0.18 Mo 10 O 31 was
solved by single crystal XRD techniques, and is based
on a scaffolding similar to that found in Mo-bronzes,
with the Sb 3+ y As 3+ and their lone pairs accommodated
in the shaft of the hexagonal tunnels. Magnetic measurements
confirm the mixed valence of Mo in this phase,
and electrical conductivity measurements show its
semiconductor character.
[3] y EuNiO 3
[4]. YNiO 3
sufre una transición
estructural y electrónica brusca a 14 GPa, evolucionando
2. Nickel perovskites, RNiO 3
RNiO 3
perovskites, which contain trivalent Ni and must
be stabilized under high pressures, show metal-insulator
(MI) transitions as a function of temperature and the
rare-earth size. Well shaped crystals of NdNiO 3
have
been grown for the first time under high pressure conditions,
in a belt press at 4GPa [1]. The reaction took
place in a sealed Pt capsule in the presence of KClO 3 as
oxidizing agent. The choice of hydroxides as reactants
is crucial to favour the crystal growth. We have also studied
the high temperature magnetic evolution of RNiO 3
(R= Gd, Y and Lu) [2]: in the metallic phase, the magnetism
evolves from a Pauli-like to a Curie-Weiss-like susceptibility
as the R 3+ size decreases. On the other hand,
we have investigated the MI transition under pressure
in YNiO 3
[3] and EuNiO 3
[4]. We have observed a sudden
electronic and structural P21/n to Pbnm transition in
YNiO3 at 14 GPa, indicating a melting of the charge
ordered state. EuNiO 3
undergoes a metallization at 5.8
GPa, while the structure remains unchanged up to 20
GPa. These results are explained in terms of a gradual
increase of the electronic bandwith with increasing
pressure, resulting in a closing of the charge transfer
gap [4].
