de Interpretación de Isla de Lobos

Su Majestad la Reina Doña Sofía, acompañada del
presidente del Gobierno de Canarias, Paulino Rivero,
el presidente del Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, el director
general de Medio Natural y Política Forestal, Juan
Garay, la delegada del Gobierno en Canarias, Carolina
Darias, y la alcaldesa de La Oliva, Rosa Fernández,
inauguró el pasado mes de septiembre el Centro de
Interpretación de Isla de Lobos.
El Centro, que abrió desde ese momento sus
puertas al público, ha sido impulsado desde el
Cabildo para ofrecer a los cientos de visitantes que
se acercan cada día a la Isla de Lobos un referente
informativo e interpretativo de los valores naturales
y medioambientales existentes en este Islote, que
se encuentra integrado en su totalidad en el Parque
Natural de Las Dunas de Corralejo e Isla de Lobos.
La visita de Su Majestad, que desembarcó en el
Islote desde una de las embarcaciones que realizan
el transporte regular entre Isla de Lobos y Corralejo,
comenzó conociendo los exteriores del centro.
De camino hacia las nuevas instalaciones, Doña
Sofía pudo conocer la fisionomía de Isla de Lobos en
una maqueta realizada en detalle, fotografiarse junto
a las réplicas a escala natural de tres lobos marinos
que se han ubicado en el camino hacia el centro, y
conocer de la mano del presidente del Cabildo, Mario
Cabrera, la historia de Josefina Pla, poetisa majorera
nacida en Isla de Lobos cuyo busto destaca también
en este recorrido.

La inauguración del centro se materializó con el
descubrimiento de una placa conmemorativa de la
visita real.
El Cabildo, a través de su presidente, hizo entrega a
Su Majestad la Reina de una copia a pequeña escala
del mural que adorna una de las paredes del centro
de interpretación al completo, consistente en una
pintura que reproduce cómo sería Isla de Lobos en
el siglo XVI, contando en sus playas con una colonia
permanente de focas monje.
Al término del acto, Su Majestad inauguró el libro
de visitas del Centro, firmando en el mismo y dejando
una dedicatoria personal.
Centro de Interpretación
de Isla de Lobos
La instalación del Centro de Interpretación de Isla
de Lobos ha sido impulsada desde la Consejería de
Medio Ambiente el Cabildo de Fuerteventura con el
objetivo de dirigir a los visitantes y turistas del islote
acerca de los valores naturales que alberga en su
interior, propiciando el disfrute de los mismos, y en
la línea de evitar prejuicio en su conservación.

Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain, who was accompanied
by the president of the Canarian Government,
Paulino Rivero, the Cabildo’s president, Mario
Cabrera, the general director of Natural Environment
and Forest Politics, Juan Garay, the delegate from
the Canarian Government, Carolina Darias and the
Mayor of La Oliva, Rosa Fernández, inaugurated the
Interpretation Centre of Isla de Lobos in September.
The Centre, that has since opened its doors to the
public, was promoted by the Cabildo in order to give
the hundreds of daily visitors on the island of Los Lobos
a centre of information and interpretation about
the natural and environmental resources of this islet
that is entirely contained in the Natural Park of Las
Dunas de Corralejo and Isla de Lobos.
The visit of her Majesty the Queen, who disembarked
on the islet from one of the embarkations that
regularly carries out the crossings between the island
of Lobos and Corralejo started with the study of the
exterior of the Centre.
On the way to the new premises, Queen Sofía of
Spain found out about the physiognomy of Isla de
Lobos with a model made in details, her picture was
taken with actual size replicas of three sea lions that
are situated on the way to the centre and she found
out from Mario Cabrera, the Cabildo’s president,
about the history of Josefina Pla, the local poet born
on Isla de Lobos and whose bust is displayed on this
track.
The inauguration of the centre was materialised
with a commemorative plaque of the Royal visit.
The Cabildo, represented by its president, handed
over to her Majesty the Queen a small scale copy of
the mural that adorns one of the walls in the interpretation
centre which consists of a painting that
shows how Isla de Lobos would have looked like
during the 16th century with colonies of monk seals
on its beaches.
At the end of the event, Her Majesty the Queen
inaugurated the Centre’s visitor’s book by signing
and leaving a personal message on it.
Interpretation Centre of Isla de Lobos
The premises of the Interpretation Centre of Isla de
Lobos were promoted by Fuerteventura’s Cabildo’s
Environment Council in order to guide visitors and
tourists on the islet regarding its natural resources, to
increase their enjoyment and ensure those resources’
preservation.

Königin Sofia weihte das Informationszentrum der
Insel Lobos ein
Königin Sofia weihte im September in Begleitung
des Präsidenten der Kanaren, Paulino Rivero, des
Präsidenten des Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, des Generaldirektors
für Umwelt und Forstpolitik, Juan Garay,
der Regierungsvertreterin auf den Kanaren, Carolina
Darias, und der Bürgermeisterin von La Oliva, Rosa Fernández,
das Informationszentrum der Insel Lobos ein.
Das Informationszentrum der Insel, das seit seiner
Eröffnung für das Publikum geöffnet ist, wurde vom
Cabildo gefördert, um den hunderten von Besuchern,
die täglich nach Lobos kommen den natürlichen
Reichtum von diesem Eiland näher zu bringen, das
zum Naturpark „Las Dunas” von Corralejo und Lobos
gehört.
Die Königin, die auf dem Eiland mit einem Schiff
ankam, das für den normalen Personenverkehr eingesetzt
wird, besichtigte zuerst den äußeren Bereich
des Zentrums.
Auf dem Weg zu dem neuen Zentrum konnte
Königin Sofia die Physiognomie der Insel Lobos anhand
einer genauen Nachbildung kennenlernen. Sie
wurde neben den Nachbildungen in Originalgröße
von drei Seehunden fotografiert, die auf dem Weg
zum Zentrum aufgestellt worden sind. Der Präsident
des Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, erzählte ihr persönlich
die Geschichte der Josefina Pla, einer Dichterin aus
Lobos, deren Büste sich auch auf dem Weg befindet.
Bei der Eröffnung des Zentrums wurde eine Gedenktafel
an den königlichen Besuch enthüllt.
Der Präsident des Cabildo übergab der Königin
eine kleine Nachbildung des Wandbildes, das die
Wände des Informationszentrums schmückt. Auf
diesem Bild wird die Insel Lobos im XVI. Jahrhundert
dargestellt, als es an ihren Stränden eine ständige
Kolonie von Mönchsrobben gab.
Am Ende der Veranstaltung machte die Königin
den ersten Eintrag im Gästebuch des Zentrums, in
dem sie eine persönliche Widmung unterzeichnete.
Informationszentrum der Insel Lobos
Das Informationszentrum der Insel Lobos wurde
vom Amt für Umwelt Cabildo von Fuerteventura
gegründet, damit die Besucher und Touristen den
natürlichen Reichtum des Eilandes kennenlernen
und dazu beitragen diesen zu erhalten.

La planta de Corralejo producirá el doble
del consumo eléctrico de la desaladora

La planta de energía eólica de la desaladora de
Corralejo producirá el doble de energía que la que
requiere para su consumo la propia desaladora. El
Consorcio de Abastecimiento de Aguas a Fuerteventura
(CAFF) impulsa este proyecto, con una inversión
superior a dos millones de euros, cuyos trabajos de
instalación de los aerogeneradores han comenzando
recientemente con la construcción de las bases sobre
las que se instalarán los aerogeneradores, así como
la instalación de todos los equipos anemómetros
necesarios en una torre anexa, ya finalizada.
El parque eólico permitirá verter a la red eléctrica
alrededor de 1’7 megavatios, lo que viene a significar
el doble del consumo estimado para la planta desaladora:
0’8 megavatios. Este parque eólico generará
unos beneficios que además permitirán optimizar los
costes de producción y mantener la política asumida
por el CAAF y el Cabildo de no aumentar las tarifas
del agua. Algo que se viene manteniendo desde hace
tres legislaturas, mejorando incluso las subvenciones
al agua agrícola.
La planta eólica de la desaladora de Corralejo contará
con dos aerogeneradores de última generación
instalados por la empresa Drace, con capacidad
para producir cada uno de ellos 850 Kw/hora, lo que
supone casi doblar el consumo de la desaladora. La

ampliaciones su capacidad se sitúa ahora entorno a
los 4.300 m3 diarios.

teniendo en cuenta todos los condicionantes medioambientales,
incluida la integración estética y visual
de los molinos con los colores del entorno.
Repotenciación
La actuación estará relacionada con la repotenciación
del Parque eólico de Cañada del Río, pasando
de los 10 Mw actuales a 16 Mw, con una inversión
aproximada de 24 millones de euros. En este caso se
instalarán nuevos aerogeneradores de última generación,
que permiten aumentar la productividad incluso
con menor número de máquinas. Actualmente es
están ultimando las autorizaciones y se adjudicán los
trabajos de instalación en los próximos meses, para
que el próximo año también pueda entrar en servicio.
Desalación
El Consorcio de Aguas de Fuerteventura cuenta
con tres plantas desaladoras: Corralejo (4.000 m3/
día), Puerto del Rosario, donde se encuentra el
centro principal de producción (22.500m3) y Gran
Tarajal (4.500 m3/día). La capacidad productiva se
mejoraba desde finales de noviembre de 2008 con
la instalación de dos nuevas desaladoras móviles
con una capacidad de producción de 2.500 m3/día
cada una, que han venido a reforzar los centros de
Puerto del Rosario y Gran Tarajal.

Die Windkraftanlage der Entsalzungsanlage von
Corralejo wird doppelt so viel Energie erzeugen wie
die Entsalzungsanlage verbraucht. Das Konsortium
für die Wasserversorgung von Fuerteventura (CAFF)
treibt dieses Projekt voran, in das mehr als zwei Millionen
Euro investiert wurden. Die Installierungsarbeiten
haben vor kurzem mit dem Bau der Fundamente
begonnen, auf welchen die Windgeneratoren installiert
werden. Dazu kommt die Installierung aller
notwendigen Windmessanlagen in einem schon fertig
gestellten angebauten Turm.
Der Windpark wird es ermöglichen, ungefähr 1,7
Megawatt ins elektrische Netz zu geben, dies ist das
Doppelte des geschätzten Verbrauchs der Entsalzungsanlage:
0,8 Megawatt. Durch die Überschüsse,
die dieser Windpark erzeugen wird, wird es außerdem
ermöglicht, die Produktionskosten zu optimieren
und die Politik beizubehalten, die das CAAF und der
Cabildo machen, um diese Wasserpreise nicht zu
erhöhen. Diese Politik wird seit drei Legislaturperioden
gemacht, wodurch auch die Subventionen des
Wassers für die Landwirtschaft erhöht wurden.
The desalination’s wind turbines will consists of two
last generation aero-generators that will be installed
by Drace. They will have a production capacity of
850 kw/hour each, which represents almost twice
the desalination plant’s consumption. However the
production will be directly poured into the public
electric network.
Corralejo’s desalination plant operates since 1993
when it used to produce an average of 1.500 m3 per
day and further to various extensions is now produces
about 4.300 m3 daily.
The aero-generators’ installation takes into account
the environment conditions including aesthetic and
visual integration of the wind turbines according to
the surrounding colours.
Reassessment
The project is related to the reassessment of the
wind turbine park of Cañada del Río that will increase
its production from 10 Mw to 16 Mw. This represents
an investment of 24 million euros. In this instance,
new generation turbines will be installed that will
increase the production although there will be less
wind turbines. At present the authorisations are being
finalised and work is being planned so that the park
can be in service next year.
Desalination
Fuerteventura’s Water Council runs three desalination
plants: Corralejo (4.000 m3¬day), Puerto
del Rosario, which is the main production site with
22.500m3 and Gran Tarajal (4.500 m3/day). The
production capacity increased in November 2008
thanks to the installation of new mobile desalination
plants producing 2.500 m3/day each that came as reinforcements
in Puerto del Rosario and Gran Tarajal.

das Doppelte dessen, was die Entsalzungsanlage
verbraucht. Dieser Produktionsüberschuss wird ins
öffentliche elektrische Netz gegeben.
Die Entsalzungsanlage von Corralejo wurde 1993
in Betrieb genommen und fing mit einer durchschnittlichen
Produktion von 1.500 m3 pro Tag an, die mit
der Zeit gesteigert wurde. Heute erzeugt sie ungefähr
4.300 m3 pro Tag.
Bei der Installierung der Windgeneratoren werden
alle Umweltaspekte einbezogen, sogar die ästhetische
und visuelle Integration der Windräder durch die
Farben der Umgebung.
Steigerung
Dieses Vorhaben ist mit der Steigerung der Leistung
des Windparks von Cañada del Río verbunden,
dessen Leistung von den jetzigen 10 MW auf 16 MW
gesteigert wird. Dafür werden ungefähr 24 Millonen
Euro investiert. In diesem Fall werden neue hoch
moderne Windgeneratoren installiert, durch die die
Produktivität gesteigert werden kann, auch wenn
weniger Maschinen eingesetzt werden. Zurzeit werden
die letzten Formalitäten für die Genehmigungen
erledigt, und in den nächsten Monaten werden die
Installierungsarbeiten vergeben, damit sie im nächsten
Jahr fertig werden.
Entsalzung
Das Konsortium für die Wasserversorgung von
Fuerteventura verfügt über drei Entsalzungsanlagen:
Corralejo (4.000 m3/Tag), Puerto del Rosario, wo
das Hauptproduktionszentrum liegt (22.500 m3)
und Gran Tarajal (4.500 m3/Tag). Die Kapazität der
Produktion wurde seit Ende November des Jahres
2008 durch die Installierung von neuen mobilen
Entsalzungsanlagen verbessert, von denen jede eine
Kapazität für die Produktion von 2.500 m3/Tag hat.
Dadurch sollten die Zentren von Puerto del Rosario
und Gran Tarajal Verstärkung bekommen.

La obra del paseo peatonal y carril bici de
Costa Calma traslada las especies
vegetales afectadas

Alrededor de un centenar de ejemplares de palmeras
y distintas especies vegetales han sido trasplantadas
para su conservación con motivo de las obras
de construcción del paseo peatonal y carril bici entre
El Granillo y Costa Calma (Pájara), contando con la
colaboración de los propietarios de la zona.
Los trabajos se centran en la zona frente a la gasolinera
de Costa Calma, acondicionando la superficie
del carril bici y peatonal, una vez ya han sido retiradas
las especies vegetales. Previamente se acometieron
también los trabajos de poda y preparación para el
trasplante de los árboles que han resultado afectados
por el trazado.
La obra no se plantea únicamente como un paseo
peatonal, sino que incluye mobiliario urbano,
jardinería y un carril bici. El proyecto se ideó en su
momento con un doble objetivo. Por un lado, dotar
de mayores condiciones de seguridad a los peatones
que transitan por la zona, y al mismo tiempo contribuir
a dinamizar el área dotándola de carriles bici y
peatonales que mejoren sus servicios y la hagan más
atractiva para los usuarios y visitantes.
El recorrido sobre el que se desarrollan las obras
llega desde la glorieta de Cañada del Río hasta la de
Costa Calma, en pleno tramo urbano y paralela a la
carretera por el lado más cercano a la costa, donde
se localiza una zona arbolada. En total serán unos
1.320 metros de longitud, en un trazado paralelo a la
carretera FV2. La zona peatonal tendrá una anchura
de 3,20 metros, junto a un carril de bicicletas de 2,5
metros de ancho, completado todo con unos márge-

Toda la infraestructura se complementa con zona
de jardinería, alumbrado público, red de riego, zona
de bancos y sombra, etc. La ejecución de los trabajos
está requiriendo la retirada de especies arbóreas en
algunos puntos afectados por el trazado, aunque el
proyecto prevé que se repondrán al finalizar, aprovechando
las zonas de jardinería, preferentemente con
palmera canaria, flamboyanes y ficus. Con respecto
a los ejemplares de pino australiano que puedan
resultar afectados, se optó por su traslado a un área
ajardinada próxima.
El diseño del proyecto prevé que el nuevo carril
peatonal que se instale, así como el carril bici, se
coloquen a una altura elevada sobre el trazado de la
carretera, de manera que proporcione mejores condiciones
de seguridad a los peatones. La instalación
de toda la infraestructura también permitirá habilitar
zonas más seguras de cruce peatonal.
Trees and plants affected by the construction of the pedestrian and cycle
paths get moved
Im Rahmen der Bauarbeiten in der Fußgängerzone
und am Fahrradweg von Costa Calma werden die
betroffenen Pflanzen umgepflanzt
Aufgrund des Baus einer Fußgängerzone und eines
Fahrradweges zwischen El Granillo und Costa Calma
(Pájara) wurden ungefähr hundert Palmen und andere
Pflanzen umgepflanzt, wodurch ihr Erhalt gewährleistet
wird. Dieser Eingriff wird von den Besitzern des
betroffenen Geländes unterstützt.
Die Arbeiten werden in der Zone vor der Tankstelle
von Costa Calma durchgeführt, wo nach Entfernung
der verschiedenen Pflanzen ein Fahrradweg und ein
Fußweg eingerichtet werden. Vorher waren die betroffenen
Bäume beschnitten und auf die Umpflanzung
vorbereitet worden.
Im Rahmen dieser Bauarbeiten wird nicht nur
eine einfache Fußgängerzone eingerichtet, sondern
dazu kommen Stadtmöblierung, Bepflanzung und

area and second to bring dynamism in the area by

The work is being carried out along the main road
(FV2) on the coastal side from the roundabout of
Cañada del Río until the roundabout of Costa Calma,
which represents 1320 metres. The pedestrian path
with be 3,20 metres wide and the cycle path 2,5
metres wide with an additional space of 1 metre on
either side.
The whole infrastructure will be complimented
with flower boxes, street lighting, irrigation system,
sitting and shaded areas, etc. The project’s completion
means that some vegetation has to be moved
in some areas although they will later be planted
again in landscaped areas with Canarian palm trees,
flamboyants and ficus. It has been decided to move
the Australian pines that could be affected to a neighbouring
landscaped area.
The project’s design plans for the new pedestrian
and cycle paths to be built higher than the main road
in order to improve safety conditions for pedestrians.
The whole project will also improve safety on pedestrian
crossings.
Im Rahmen der Bauarbeiten in der Fußgängerzone und am Fahrradweg von
Costa Calma werden die betroffenen Pflanzen umgepflanzt
ein Fahrradweg. Das Projekt wurde ursprünglich aus
zwei Gründen geplant. Einerseits sollte die Sicherheit
der Fußgänger, die durch diese Zone kommen,
verbessert werden. Ferner sollten die Fahrradwege
und die Fußgängerzone zur Dynamisierung der Gegend
beitragen, wodurch die öffentlichen Leistungen
verbessert werden und die Gegend für Nutzer und
Besucher attraktiver wird.
Die Strecke, an der die Arbeiten ausgeführt werden,
reicht vom Kreisel von Cañada del Río bis zu dem von
Costa Calma. Sie liegt mitten in einem städtischen Gebiet
und verläuft parallel zu der Seite der Autostraße,
die näher an der Küste liegt. In dem Gebiet gibt es
auch einen Bereich mit Bäumen. Insgesamt wird parallel
zur Autostraße FV2 eine 1.320 m lange Strecke
angelegt. Die Fußgängerzone wird 3,20 m breit sein,
der Fahrradweg dagegen 2,5 m. An beiden Seiten wird
es einen ein Meter breiten Sicherheitsabstand geben.
Die gesamte Infrastruktur wird durch einen bepflanzten
Bereich, eine öffentliche Beleuchtung, ein
Bewässerungsnetz, einen Bereich mit Bänken und
Schatten usw. ergänzt. Vor Ausführung der Arbeiten
ist es notwendig, an einigen Stellen der Strecke
Bäume zu entfernen. Es ist aber in dem Projekt
vorgesehen, diese Bäume nach Abschluss der Arbeiten
in einen der bepflanzten Bereiche der Zone
zu pflanzen. Dies gilt vor allem für die kanarischen
Palme, den Flammenbaum und den Feigenbaum. Die
australischen Kiefern dagegen soll in einen nahen
Park gepflanzt werden.
Im Entwurf des Projektes ist vorgesehen, sowohl
den neuen Fußweg als auch den Fahrradweg hoch
über die Autostraße zu legen, so dass die Sicherheit
der Fußgänger gewährleistet wird. Im Rahmen der
Installierung der ganzen Infrastruktur wird es auch
möglich, sicherere Fußgängerübergänge zu schaffen.

Hartmann, anunció recientemente la intención de
la cadena que dirige, perteneciente al Grupo Tui, de
celebrar el año próximo el 40º aniversario de Hoteles
Robinson en Fuerteventura.
El anuncio se produjo durante el acto de apertura
del Robinson Tour 2009, celebrado en el Hotel Robinson
Esquinzo Playa, en el que estuvieron presentes
también Guillermo Concepción y Águeda Montelongo,
presidente accidental y consejera de Turismo del
Cabildo, como representantes de la primera institución
insular, colaboradora del evento a través del
Patronato de Turismo.
Según explicó Hartmann, que se declaró veraneante
habitual de la Isla, la celebración del aniversario de la
cadena en Jandía se justifica “teniendo en cuenta que
los hoteles Robinson nacen en Fuerteventura, cuando
la compañía adquiere su primer hotel, el Robinson
Club Jandía Playa en 1970”, establecimiento que fue
asimismo el primero levantado en el sur de la Isla en
1966. De este modo, dijo, “no puede haber escenario
mejor para conmemorar nuestro 40 cumpleaños”.
Destacaron de la intervención de Sören Hartmann
los conocimientos del directivo acerca de los asuntos
de Fuerteventura en materia medioambiental,
concretamente en relación a proyectos como la Reintroducción
de la Tortuga ‘Boba’ o la Reserva de la
Biosfera. El director de Robinson alabó también las
ventajas Fuerteventura con respecto a otros destinos
más septentrionales, como son “la suavidad del clima
o la calidad del agua”.
El Robinson Tour 2009 congregó en el sur de Fuerteventura
a los 200 agentes de viajes del grupo Tui
que mejores resultados han obtenido en la venta de
estancias hoteleras en la cadena Robinson.
Entre las actividades que realizaron los agentes
durante estas jornadas destacaron workshops, una
cena típica canaria para conocer la gastronomía
insular, o la presentación de destino que realizó el
Patronato de Turismo para profundizar con los 200
agentes en la oferta turística en su totalidad.
Una de las actividades más llamativas fue la caminata
realizada a lo largo de la costa majorera entre
los dos hoteles de la cadena, el Robinson Club Esquinzo
Playa, situado junto al Barranco de Butihondo,
y el Robinson Jandía Playa, que se encuentra en las
cercanías de Morro Jable. Fueron 6 kilómetros de
recorrido ininterrumpido a lo largo de la arena de las
Playas de Jandía.

Dies wurde bei der Eröffnungsveranstaltung von
Robinson Tour 2009 angekündigt, die im Robinson-
Hotel Esquinzo Playa stattfand. Unter den Anwesenden
waren Guillermo Concepción und Águeda
Montelongo, der stellvertretende Präsident und die
Beauftragte für Tourismus des Cabildo, als Vertreter
der Inselregierung, deren Tourismuspatronat Mitveranstalter
des Ereignisses ist.
Hartmann erzählte, dass er regelmäßig den Sommer
auf der Insel verbringt und erklärte, dass ist die Feier
des Jubiläums der Hotelkett in Jandía gerechtfertigt
ist, „wenn man in Betracht zieht, dass die Robinson-
Hotels auf Fuerteventura gegründet wurden, als das

The Robinson Hotel Group General Director, Mr.
Sören Hartmann, recently announced that the chain

The announcement was made during the opening
of the 2009 Robinson Tour celebrated in the Robinson

As Mr. Hartmann explained, Fuerteventura is a
regular holiday destination of his and the celebration

“when we take into account that the Robinson Hotels
opened in Fuerteventura with the opening of their
first hotel, the Robinson Club Jandía Playa in 1970”,
which was the first hotel to be built in the South of the
Island in 1966. Therefore, “there could not have been
a more suitable destination for the commemoration
of our 40th anniversary”, he added.
During his speech, Mr. Sören Hartmann commen-
ted about the directives regarding the environment in
Fuerteventura, and more specifically about projects
such as the Reintroduction of the Loggerhead Turtle
and the Biosphere Reserve. The Robinson Hotel
Group director also praised the advantages of Fuerteventura
compared to other more northern destinations
for its “mild climate and ocean water quality”.
The 2009 Robinson Tour congregated in the South
of the Island 200 travel agents from the Tui group who
achieved the best sales figures in the Robinson chain.
Activities organised for the agents during their
stay included workshops, a typical Canarian dinner
in order to discover the local gastronomy, and the
presentation of the Tourist Board’s destination presentation
to get the 200 agents to find out about the
area’s tourism offer.
One of the most memorable activities was the walk
organised along the coast between the two Robinson
Group hotels, the Robinson Club Esquinzo Playa,
situated next to Barranco de Butihondo, and the
Robinson Jandía Playa that is close to Morro Jable.
This walk represented 6 kilometres of uninterrupted
path along the sandy Jandía Beaches.

Continúa el proyecto de recuperación de
senderos
ACFIPRESS - Fuerteventura
La Villa de Betancuria, la Vega de Río Palmas y el
entorno de estas dos localidades acogieron recientemente
trabajos relativos al Proyecto de Recuperación
y Mejora de la Red de Senderos de Fuerteventura, redactado
por el Cabildo de Fuerteventura e impulsado
con la financiación del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente
y Medio Rural y Marino.
Tras pasar por el municipio de Puerto del Rosario,
donde se estuvo trabajando en senderos de las localidades
de Tefía y Casillas del Ángel, los trabajos
se trasladaron al municipio de Betancuria, donde
se acondicionaron todos los senderos que utilizan
regularmente los miles de peregrinos que participan
cada año en las fiestas de la patrona insular de Fuerteventura,
la Virgen de La Peña.
Una parte fundamental del proyecto se centrará en
la habilitación de una señalética completa en las 15
rutas previstas, que sea capaz de guiar con precisión
a los usuarios a lo largo de los distintos recorridos. La
correcta ubicación de esta señalización es un requisito
fundamental para poder homologar las rutas como
caminos naturales, lo que conllevará su inclusión en
las guías nacionales de senderismo. La finalización
del proyecto se prevé para finales del presente año.
En cuanto a los trabajos concretos a realizar, se
centran en delimitar los márgenes de cada sendero,
allanar y recuperar su superficie, arreglar las zonas
de desagüe, instalando empedrados que eviten el
derrumbamiento del sendero en los pasos de la
escorrentía, y ubicar finalmente toda la señalética
homologada, necesaria para la interpretación de las
15 rutas que se están habilitando.
Una de las permisas básicas del proyecto es la de
respetar el trazado original de los senderos, en la medida
en que lo permitan las titularidades de los terrenos
que recorren. Esta propuesta plantea además una
repercusión positiva en lo que respecta a la dinamización
de los núcleos rurales de la Isla, mejorando de
este modo el valor añadido del entorno rural majorero,
potenciando el senderismo y el turismo de naturaleza.
Trabajos
El plan de recuperación de senderos actúa exclusivamente
sobre tramos de titularidad pública ya
existentes. En ningún caso se ampliarán senderos
o se ocuparán nuevos terrenos, ya que es requisitos
imprescindible respetar el trazado original, que oscila
entre 0’5 y 1’5 metros de anchura.
El trabajo comienza con el allanamiento del recorrido
en cada tramo, retirando residuos, escombros
y vegetación que haya podido ir acumulándose por
falta de uso. A continuación se extiende una capa
arenosa compactada para consolidar el firme, siempre
recurriendo a materiales de la zona que eviten
cualquier tipo de impacto ambiental.
El proyecto presta una atención especial a los badenes
y cruces de barranquillos y barrancos, donde
se ha optado por instalar tramos de calzada empedrados,
de forma que evite la posible erosión que
las lluvias puedan ocasionar en invierno y faciliten el
tránsito de los senderistas. También se establecen
medidas de protección como pequeños muretes,
en los tramos en los que exista mayor peligrosidad.
Tras las obras, se procede a instalar la señalización
identificativa, con la numeración de cada sendero, su
categoría, continuidad, duración estimada, grado de
dificultad y kilómetros recorridos.
The Project of salvation
of hiking paths continues
La Villa de Betancuria, Vega de Río Palmas and the
areas around those two sites were recently updated
within the Project of Salvation and Improvement of
Hiking Paths Network in Fuerteventura, created by
Fuerteventura’s Cabildo and financed by the Ministry
of Environment and Rural and Marine Areas.
Work was first carried out in the municipality of
Puerto del Rosario on paths in Tefía and Casillas del
Ángel, then it was in the municipality of Betancuria
that paths were reconditioned. Those paths are
regularly used by thousands of pilgrims who participate
every year in Fuerteventura’s Virgen de la Peña
celebrations.
One fundamental side of this project is the creation
of signs on all 15 routes that will guide users precisely
along the paths. The correct location of those signs
is important in order to homologate those routes as
natural paths, which means that they will be included
in national hiking guides. The project is expected to
be completed by the end of the year.
The work to be carried out consists of marking the
edges of the paths, with its accurate amount of surface,
fix the areas of drainage, add some paved areas
to stop the paths collapsing with erosion, and finally
add homologated signs required on all 15 routes.
One of the basic guidelines of the project is to
respect the original paths as long as the owners of
the land allow it. This proposal also brings a positive
repercussion on the island’s rural areas as it will liven
them up, improve the added value of rural areas of
the island and promote hiking and natural tourism.
Building work
The hiking paths recuperation plan is exclusively
aimed at existing public paths. Paths will not be extended
and new ones will not be created, the original
0,5 to 1,5 metres wide routes will be respected.
Work starts with the search for the original route,
removing residue, debris and vegetation that could
have accumulated with lack of use. Then a compacted
layer of sand is laid on the path to consolidate its
surface, always using materials that won’t have an
impact on the environment.
The project also takes special care of dips and crossings
with barrancos where it was decided to create
paved areas to avoid possible erosion that rain can
create in winter and make the crossings easier for
hikers. Some safety measures have also been added
such as small walls in the most dangerous areas.
Once the building work is completed, guiding signs
are installed, giving the paths’ number, its category,
continuity and estimated duration, difficulty grade
and the number of kilometres already completed.

In Villa de Betancuria, Vega de Río Palmas und
der Umgebung dieser Orte fanden kürzlich Arbeiten
statt, die zum Projekt für die Wiederinstandsetzung
und Verbesserung des Netzes der Wanderwege von
Fuerteventura gehören, welches vom Cabildo von
Fuerteventura durchgeführt und vom Ministerium
für Umwelt, ländliche Gebiete und Meeresgebiete
finanziert wird.
Die Arbeiten wurden zuerst in der Gemeinde von
Puerto del Rosario durchgeführt, wo die Wanderwege
von Tefía und Casillas del Ángel hergerichtet wurden.
Danach gingen die Arbeiten in der Gemeinde von
Betancuria weiter, wo sämtliche Wanderwege hergerichtet
wurden, die regelmäßig von den Pilgern benutzt
werden, welche jedes Jahr am Fest der Schutzherrin
von Fuerteventura teilnehmen, die Virgen de La Peña
heißt.
Ein wichtiger Teil des Projektes ist die vollständige
Ausschilderung der 15 vorgesehenen Routen, damit
die Nutzer auf den verschiedenen Wegen immer genau
wissen wo sie sind. Es ist sehr wichtig, dass diese
Schilder an den richtigen Stellen angebracht werden,
damit diese Routen als natürliche Wege anerkannt
werden und in die nationalen Wanderführer aufgenommen
werden. Es ist vorgesehen, dass dieses
Projekt bis Ende dieses Jahres abgeschlossen wird.
Die auszuführenden Arbeiten bestehen daraus, die
Ränder der Wege abzugrenzen, den Boden zu ebnen
und wieder herzurichten, die Abflusszonen in Ordnung
zu bringen, Pflasterungen anzulegen, um Erdrutsche
auf den überspülten Stellen zu verhindern. Außerdem
müssen die 15 Wege korrekt ausgeschildert werden.
Dieses Projekt respektiert die ursprünglichen Wanderwege
so weit, wie es die Besitzer der betroffenen
Grundstücke gestatten. Außerdem wird es eine positive
Auswirkung auf die Dynamisierung der ländlichen
Ortschaften der Insel und auf die Nutzbarkeit der
ländlichen Umgebung haben. Dabei werden der Wandernsport
und der Tourismus in der Natur gefördert.
Arbeiten
Der Plan für die Wiederherrichtung der Wanderwege
betrifft nur schon existierende öffentliche Wege.
Diese Wanderwege werden in keinem Fall verlängert
oder neu angelegt. Die ursprünglichen 0,5 bis 1,5
Meter breiten Strecken müssen respektiert werden.
Die Arbeit beginnt mit der Ebnung aller Strecken,
wobei Müll und Schutt sowie Pflanzen entfernt
werden, die auf den Wegen wuchern, weil sie nicht
benutzt wurden. Dann kommt eine kompakte Sandschicht
darauf, um den Boden zu festigen. Dabei wird
immer Material aus der Gegend verwendet, so dass
die Umwelt nicht beeinträchtigt wird.
Das Projekt beachtet besonders die natürlichen
Regenrinnen und Kreuzungen von Schluchten. Dort
wurden Strecken mit Pflasterungen eingerichtet,
damit es, wenn es im Winter regnet, nicht zu Erdrutschen
kommt. Außerdem wird dadurch den Wanderern
das Überqueren erleichtert. Auf den gefährlichsten
Strecken werden auch Schutzmaßnahmen wie kleine
Mäuerchen aufgestellt.
Nach den Arbeiten wird die endgültige Beschilderung
angebracht. Dazu gehören die Nummerierung
jedes Wanderweges sowie Angaben über dessen
Kategorie, Kontinuität, geschätzte Dauer, Schwierigkeitsgrad
und Kilometer.

El Cabildo finaliza la construcción del nuevo
centro de fauna silvestre

El Cabildo de Fuerteventura, a través de la Consejería
de Medio Ambiente e Infraestructuras, finalizó este
verano las obras de construcción de un nuevo Centro
de Fauna Silvestre y una nueva zona de invernaderos,
que han sido instalados en La Estación Biológica de
La Oliva que gestiona la Corporación Insular.
La principal novedad que incorpora el Centro es la
habilitación de 10 modernos jaulones destinados a
acoger a los animales que llegan a la Estación Biológica
durante su proceso de recuperación.
Cada jaulón está completamente sellado hacia
el interior del recinto -pero abierto a la luz exterior
mediante una malla en situada en su parte superior-,
y cuenta cada uno con un habitáculo independiente
equipado con mirillas para que los cuidadores puedan
controlar a cada animal sin ser vistos, y también
con bebederos y comederos que se pueden surtir
desde fuera sin necesidad de acceder al interior de
cada jaulón.
El objetivo de estas medidas es evitar que los
animales se acostumbren a la presencia humana
durante su periodo de recuperación, permitiendo
al mismo tiempo que, por ejemplo, las aves puedan
moverse libremente en el interior de su jaulón.
En cuanto a la construcción de las nuevas instalaciones
de viveros e invernaderos, responde a
la necesidad de mejorar los espacios dirigidos a
la producción vegetal donde se cultivaran plantas
autóctonas, se producen semilleros en bandejas
para facilitar su transporte, y se habilita una zona de
Fuerteventura’s Cabildo with the Environment and

build of a new Wild Fauna Centre and a new greenhouse
in the Biological Station of La Oliva.
The main novelty in the Centre is the creation of 10
modern cages for animals that come to the biological
station during their convalescence.
Each cage is completely sealed inside the centre
but has direct access to the exterior thanks to wire
mesh on the top part and each cage has a separate
space equipped with spy holes so that keepers can
control each animal without opening the cage. Cages
also have drinking fountains and feeders that can be
filled up from the exterior.
The objective is to stop animals getting used to
human presence during their convalescence and also

el trabajo a los empleados, y también está previsto
mejorar la sala de necropsias de manera que los
animales que llegan a la estación se conserven en
fresco hasta que pueden ser tratados por el personal
especializado.
En estos momentos la Estación Biológica de La
Oliva acoge en sus instalaciones cinco hubaras, dos
aguilillas, dos cuervos, dos alcaravanes y dos corredores,
además de haber atendido este año otras
aves como cernícalos o lechuzas. De todos ellos
las hubaras y las aguilillas están catalogadas como
irrecuperables, y se mantienen en la estación por
su valor científico y genético, mientras que el resto
de aves se encuentra en proceso de rehabilitación.
Otro de los objetivos de reformar la Estación Biológica
de La Oliva es adecuar sus instalaciones no sólo
a los nuevos tipos de fauna que se vienen recibiendo,
sino también a otros criterios educativos y de divulgación
que permitan al centro recibir visitas, organizar
encuentros didácticos con los centros escolares y
otros colectivos, o realizar programas de dinamización
ambiental, siempre con el objetivo de difundir
el conocimiento del patrimonio natural majorero.

von Fuerteventura hat diesen Sommer in der biologischen
Station von La Oliva den Bau eines neuen
Zentrums für wilde Tiere und die Herrichtung einer
neuen Zone für Gewächshäuser abgeschlossen.
Die wichtigste Neuheit in dem Zentrum ist die Einrichtung
von 10 modernen großen Käfigen, die die
verletzten Tiere, welche in die biologische Station
gebracht werden, während ihrer Genesung beherbergen
sollen.
Jeder Käfig ist gut verschlossen, hat jedoch an der
Oberseite ein lichtdurchlässiges Gitter und verfügt
über eine unabhängige Kabine mit Guckloch, so dass
die Tierpfleger das Tier beobachten können, ohne
von diesem gesehen zu werden. Außerdem verfügt
er über Tränke und Fressnapf, die von außen gefüllt
werden können.
Durch diese Maßnahmen soll vermieden werden,
dass sich die Tiere während der Zeit ihrer Genesung
an die Anwesenheit der Menschen gewöhnen. Außerdem
wird ihnen dadurch ermöglicht sich im Innern
ihres Käfigs frei zu bewegen.
Die neuen Pflanzengärten und Gewächshäuser
dagegen werden eingerichtet, um die Züchtungen
von einheimischen Pflanzen zu verbessern. Es wer-

wire fence with a sliding access door.
Furthermore, other actions are being carried out
such as the improvement of the area where skeletons
of large marine animals are being prepared to later be
exhibited, through the creation of a shaded working
area for the staff. It is also planned to improve the
autopsy room so that animals that arrive at the station
can be preserved in a cool area until they are studied.
At present the centre houses five Hubara Bustards,
two Aguilillas, two Common Ravens, two Eurasian
Stone-Curlews and two Corredores and this year other
birds came through the centres such as Common
Kestrels and Owls. Out of all of them, the Hubara
Bustards and Aguilillas will not be able to recover and
are kept in the station for their scientific and genetic
values while the others are in the process of recovery.
Another objective of the Biological Station’s renovation
work is to make the installations adequate for
new fauna specimen that are being taken in and for
educative and promotional requirements to make
centre suitable to welcome visitors, schools and
other groups and for the organisation of programmes
promoting the Island’s Natural heritage.

Parallel zu den Arbeiten werden weitere Aktionen
durchgeführt: Dazu gehört die Verbesserung der Zone
durch die Präparierung von Skeletten großer Meerestiere,
die später ausgestellt werden, die Schaffung
eines schattigen Bereichs, um die Arbeit der Angestellten
zu erleichtern. Außerdem ist vorgesehen den
Nekropsiesaal zu verbessern, so dass die Tiere, die in
die Station gebracht werden, frisch gehalten werden,
bis sie von Fachkräften untersucht werden.
Zurzeit beherbergt die biologische Station von La
Oliva in ihren Installationen fünf Kragentrappen,
zwei kleine Adler, zwei Raben und zwei Regenpfeifer.
Außerdem wurden dort dieses Jahr andere Vögel
wie Turmfalken und Eulen behandelt. Unter diesen
wurden die Kragentrappen und die kleinen Adler als
nicht heilbar klassifiziert und bleiben wegen ihres
wissenschaftlichen und genetischen Wertes in der
Station, während die übrigen Vögel auf dem Wege
der Besserung sind.
Außerdem wird beabsichtigt, die biologische Station
von La Oliva nicht nur den Tieren zur Verfügung zu
stellen, sondern diese auch für bildende Zwecke zu
verwenden. Das Zentrum wird Besucher empfangen,
didaktische Treffen mit Schülern und anderen
Kollektiven veranstalten, Programme für die Umwelterziehung

“Fuerteventura es la mejor isla para
el desarrollo de las energías alternativas”

La amabilidad y simpatía de este joven consejero
se juntan con el entusiasmo con que nos habla de
su labor en el Cabildo, proyectando una imagen muy
agradable y optimista a sus interlocutores.
Administrativo y funcionario del Ayuntamiento de
Pájara, durante muchos años (es natural de este municipio),
siente desde joven el gusanillo de la política y
por fin se ofrece a su partido, Coalición Canaria, para
poder trabajar más activamente para los ciudadanos
de Fuerteventura.
Lleva al frente de esta Consejería un año y medio,
desde enero del 2008, que se incorporó tras la renuncia
de su antecesor en la lista del partido y desde
entonces esta viviendo la realidad y la burocracia que
lleva la gestión de cada proyecto hasta conseguir
llevarlo a buen fin.
¿No son demasiadas actividades las que lleva su
Consejería?
Parece mucho por la nombre, pero Actividades diversas
y Espectáculos públicos, no abarcan muchos
temas; son bastante concentradas en sí y me permiten
incluso echarles una mano a mis compañeros en
algunos actos. Esta consejería no organiza eventos
públicos como pudiera pensarse por el nombre;
gestionamos los permisos que puedan necesitarse
cuando un acto abarca varios municipios, como por
ejemplo un rally que atraviese parte de la isla. Nuestro
trabajo es más bien administrativo.
Y en campo de industria y energía, ¿cuál es su
labor?
Partiendo de que Fuerteventura es la mejor isla
para el desarrollo de las energías alternativas, es
difícil de explicar que no se puedan colocar actualmente
estas instalaciones en la isla. Venimos de un
P.I.O.F., (Plan Insular de Ordenación de Fuerteventura),
aprobado en el 2001, en una época en que casi
no se pensaba en este tipo de desarrollo energético,
sólo se recogía la central térmica de El Charco y la de
Punta Salinas para la isla.
Esta prohibido el uso de suelo, aunque no en
los techos, pero ante la demanda a futuro esta en
marcha una revisión del P.I.O.F. que ya contemple
el desarrollo de las nuevas energías que el Cabildo
tiene preparadas.
¿Tenemos entendido que las normas venían ya
restringidas desde el propio Gobierno Canario?
Con el boom de las energías alternativas, y debido
a las primas que desde el gobierno central se
establecieron para estas instalaciones de energía
fotovoltaica, mucha gente se lo planteó como un
negocio importante, no como una solución medioambiental.
En la actualidad estas primas se han ido
reduciendo y han aumentado las trabas para estas
instalaciones. Antes con una solicitud al gobierno de
Canarias era suficiente, ahora se presenta la solicitud
en un registro de concesiones previas en el gobierno
central y cada trimestre el citado estamento saca a
concurso “x” potencia para España, y a los registros
de más antelación se les va concediendo.
Es posible que nos hayamos quedado atrás en
las energías fotovoltaicas, pero es muy posible que
cuando entremos nosotros existan unas placas
mucho mejor diseñadas, más pequeñas y de mayor
productividad, que nos puedan, a la larga, dar mayores
beneficios en todos los ámbitos.
Hay muchas entidades importantes que están
muy interesadas en que Fuerteventura pueda ser
una prueba de estudios para diferentes energías y
tenemos diferentes investigaciones en curso, para
ver cual es la más adecuada para esta isla. Estamos
trabajando con el Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias;
ya se firmó un convenio marco y esperamos que nos
ayuden a elegir lo mejor para nosotros.
¿Qué pasa con las plantas de biodiesel de las que
nos hablaron en su momento?
Prefiero hablar de los temas cuando están bien atados
y consolidados, aunque en la actualidad tenemos
varios y diferentes proyectos de energías renovables
no quiero extenderme sobre ellos antes de que estén
en marcha. Espero que en lo que queda de año y sobre
todo a lo largo del 2010 estos sean una realidad
de la que podamos hablar con toda propiedad.
La gente esta harta de que hablemos de acciones
que parece que ya están al salir y que luego se tardan
varios años en dar forma y, como estando aquí
dentro se ve la cantidad de burocracia y tiempo que
se necesita hasta dar forma definitiva a los proyectos,
no deseo contribuir a la sensación de que hablamos
sin tener las cosas hechas.
¿Desde esta Consejería se subvencionan algunas
instalaciones individuales?
Existen unas líneas de subvención por parte de el
Cabildo para placas solares en zonas rurales a las que
es muy difícil llevar la luz y también hay subvenciones
para la electrificación en esas mismas zonas cuando
el enganche esta a mas de 500 metros de la casa.
La demanda de estas subvenciones es cada vez es
menor, pues en los primeros años fueron muchas
las solicitadas. Nuestro presupuesto es ahora menor
que anteriormente y aún así suele estar por encima
de la demanda.
¿Cómo va la nueva instalación de la central
eléctrica?
Estamos trabajando con la intención de que al llegar
a Europa tengamos un “si” a pesar de que estamos en
una zona Z.E.P.A. (Zona especial de protección de aves).
Todos los partidos nos hemos puesto de acuerdo
y hemos votado a favor de esta nueva instalación en
Monte Agudo que nos permitirá hacer desaparecer la
central de El Charco, y se están realizando todos los
estudios y preparativos para que no sea rechazado
desde Europa.
Nos basamos en que el aeropuerto de Ciudad Real,
se construyó en una zona Z:E.P.A y siempre afecta a
más terreno y de mayor repercusión. Entendemos
que habrá que tomar las medidas adecuadas como
se hizo en el caso del aeropuerto, pero no creemos
que sea rechazado.
¿Cuáles son sus prioridades antes de terminar su
legislatura en el año 2011?
La principal es desbloquear la aplicación de las
energías alternativas en la isla y terminar los trámites
de forma positiva para empezar la construcción de
la nueva Central en Monte Agudo.
De todas formas pido a los ciudadanos que sean
conscientes de que llevará su tiempo el traslado una
vez aceptado por Europa.

The kindness of this young councillor combined
with his enthusiasm when he speaks about his work
at the Cabildo gives a very nice and optimist image
to his interlocutors.
Administrator and civil servant of the Ayuntamiento
of Pájara for many years (he was born in this municipality),
he was directed towards politics from a young
age and joined his party, the Coalición Canaria, in order
to work more actively for Fuerteventura’s citizens.
He has been leading this Council for a year and a half,
since January 2008, and joined after his predecessor
resigned from the party’s list and since then has been
dealing with the reality and bureaucracy that comes
with managing each project until its completion.
Aren’t there too many activities included in your
Council?
It seems a lot but Various Activities and Public
Shows don’t include that many themes; they are
quite concentrated and allow me to give a hand to
my colleagues. This council does not organise public
events as the name could lead to believe; we take
care of licences required when an event concerns
more than once municipality, like for example a rally
that would go across the island: Our work is mainly
administrative.
What are your duties regarding industry and energy?
Taking into account that Fuerteventura is the best
island to develop alternative energies, it is difficult to
explain why we currently cannot create installations
on the island. We have come from a Plan Insular
de Ordenación de Fuerteventura (P.I.O.F.) that was
approved in 2001, at a time when this type of energy
development was not so popular and the only solar
installation are those of El Charco and Punta Salinas
for the whole island.
It is forbidden to make use the ground for solar
installations, unless it is on roof tops, but faced with
such a large demand, the Cabildo is preparing the
revision of the P.I.O.F. which will include the development
of new energies.
We though that the norms were restricted by the
Canarian Government?
With the expansion of alternative energies, and
due to the subventions that were established by
the Government for the installation of photovoltaic
energy, many people took it as a business instead
of an environmental solution. Currently those subventions
have been reduced and more hurdles have
been added for this type of installation. Previously a
request at the Canarian Government was enough, but
it is now necessary to make a request at the registry
of concessions at the central government and every
trimester they allow a figure “x” of potency for Spain
and registries then distribute it.
We may have been left behind regarding photovoltaic
energies, but when we start setting up installations, solar
panels will be better designed, smaller and bring better
efficiency and will bring greater profits in the long run.
Many important entities are very interested and Fuerteventura
could become a site of studies for various
types of energies and various studies are currently
underway to find out which one is more appropriate for
the island. We are working with the Canarian Technologies
Institute; an agreement has already been signed
and we hope they will help us choose the best for us.
What happened with the biodiesel plants of
which we were told us about once?
I prefer talking about subjects when they are concrete
and consolidated, although at the moment we
have various projects of renewable energies I don’t
want to say too much about them until they are well
under way. I hope that over the end of the year and
mainly in 2010 those will become reality we will be
able to talk about them with full knowledge.
People get annoyed if we talk about actions that
seem like they are about to happen and that later take
years to become concrete and being on the inside I
know how much bureaucracy and time is involved
before the projects can become definite, I don’t want
to contribute to the feeling that we talk and don’t act.
Does this Council give subventions for individual
installations?
There are some types of subventions that come from
the Cabildo for solar panels in rural areas where it is
difficult to bring electricity and there are also subventions
to bring electricity in those same areas when the
electricity connection is further away than 500 metres
from the house. The request for those subventions gets
lower all the time as many were requested in the first
years. Our budget is lower than it used to be and even
then it tends to be higher than the demand.
How is the new electric plant installation progressing?
We are working so that when we get to the European
level we can get a “yes” although we are in a Z.E.P.A.
(special bird protection) area. All the parties have
come to an agreement and we have voted in favour
of this new installation in Monte Agudo that will allow
us to remove the central in El Charco. Studies and
preparations are already being carried out so that we
won’t get rejected on the European level. We have
taken into account that the airport in Ciudad Real was
built in a Z.E.P.A. area, affects more ground surface
and has more impact. We know that we will have to
take adequate measures as it was done for the airport,
but we don’t think it will be rejected.
What are your priorities before the end of your
term in 2011?
The main one is to unblock the applications for
alternative energies on the island and finish the procedures
in a positive manner in order to start building
the new Plant in Monte Agudo.
In any case, citizens should be aware that it will take
a while for the change over after the acceptation at
the European level.

Zu der Freundlichkeit und der Sympathie dieses
jungen Politikers kommt der Enthusiasmus, mit dem
er mit uns über seine Arbeit beim Cabildo spricht. Er
zeigt sich seinem Gesprächspartnern immer freundlich
und optimistisch.
Er war jahrelang Verwaltungsangestellter und
Funktionär im Rathaus von Pájara, (wo er geboren
wurde). Seit seiner Jugend ist er an Politik interessiert,
und schließlich bot er sich seiner Partei, Coalición
Canaria, an, um aktiv für die Bürger von Fuerteventura
zu arbeiten.
Er übt seit eineinhalb Jahren (Januar 2008) das
Amt aus, das er nach dem Rücktritt seines Vorgängers
bekam. Seitdem führt er die bürokratischen
Formalitäten aller Projekte durch, bis diese erfolgreich
abgeschlossen werden.
Ist Ihr Amt nicht für zu viele Aktivitäten zuständig?
Man denkt das wegen dem Namen, aber zu den
verschiedenen Aktivitäten und öffentlichen Aufführungen
gehören nicht viele Themen. Deshalb
habe ich sogar manchmal Zeit, meinen Kollegen bei
einigen Angelegenheiten zu helfen. Dieses Amt organisiert
keine öffentlichen Events, obwohl man das
denkt, wenn man den Namen hört. Wir erteilen Genehmigungen,
um Veranstaltungen durchzuführen, von
denen verschiedene Gemeinden betroffen sind, zum
Beispiel eine Rallye, die durch die ganze Insel geht.
Was tun Sie Im Bereich der Industrie und der
Energie?
Ich gehe davon aus, dass Fuerteventura die beste
Insel für die Entwicklung von alternativen Energien
ist. Es ist schwer zu erklären, dass diese Anlagen
zurzeit nicht auf der Insel gebaut werden können. Wir
haben noch einen P.I.O.F. (Inselplan für Raumordnung
auf Fuerteventura), der im Jahr 2001verabschiedet
wurde. Damals dachte noch fast keiner an die Entwicklung
dieser Art von Energie. Nur die thermischen
Anlagen von El Charco und die von Punta Salinas
wurden in den Inselplan aufgenommen.
Es ist verboten, den Boden dafür zu verwenden,
aber nicht die Dächer. Aber aufgrund der zukünftigen
Nachfrage, ist eine Revision des P.I.O.F. in Gang, um
die Entwicklung neuer Energien zu ermöglichen, die
der Cabildo durchführen möchte.
Wir haben verstanden, dass diese Regeln schon
von der Regierung der Kanaren eingeschränkt
wurden?
Mit dem Boom der alternativen Energien und wegen
der Prämien, die die Regierung für den Bau von Photovoltaikanlagen
festgesetzt hat, betrachteten es viele
Leute als wichtiges Geschäft und nicht als Lösung,
um die Probleme der Umwelt zu lösen. Inzwischen
sind die Prämien gesunken und es gibt immer mehr
Hindernisse, um diese Anlagen zu bauen. Früher war
es ausreichend, bei der Regierung der Kanaren einen
Antrag zu stellen, heute dagegen werden die Anträge
in ein Register der Zentralregierung aufgenommen.
Jedes Quartal findet die entsprechende Ausschreibung
statt, und die Register, die am weitesten vorne
sind, erhalten die Genehmigungen.
Es ist möglich, dass wir bei der Entwicklung der
Photovoltaikanlagen außen vor geblieben sind, aber
es ist auch sehr gut möglich, dass es, wenn wir damit
anfangen, viel bessere Anlagen geben wird, die
kleiner sind, mehr leisten und uns auf lange Sicht
mehr nutzen werden.
Es gibt viele wichtige Einrichtungen, die daran interessiert
sind, auf Fuerteventura Tests für die Untersuchung
von verschiedenen Energien durchzuführen.
Zurzeit werden verschiedene Untersuchungen
durchgeführt, um festzustellen, welche Energie sich
am besten für die Insel eignet. Wir arbeiten mit dem
technologischen Institut der Kanaren zusammen. Es
wurde schon ein Rahmenabkommen unterzeichnet,
und wir hoffen, dass diese Untersuchungen uns
helfen werden das auszuwählen, was am besten für
uns ist.
Was geschieht mit den Anlagen für Biodiesel,
über die einst gesprochen wurde?
Ich möchte lieber nicht über Themen sprechen,
die noch nicht sicher sind, aber zurzeit haben wir
mehrere verschiedene Projekte für erneuerbare
Energien. Ich möchte nicht mehr darüber sagen, bis
sie realisiert werden. Ich hoffe, dass diese Projekte
in den restlichen Monaten des Jahres und vor allem
2010 beschlossen werden, so dass wir darüber
sprechen können.
Die Leute sind es leid, uns über Dinge sprechen zu
hören, die schon beschlossen zu sein scheinen und
dann Jahre brauchen, um verwirklicht zu werden. Da
ich hier arbeite, kenne ich die Bürokratie und weiß,
wie lange man braucht, um Projekte zu realisieren. Ich
möchte nicht dazu beitragen, dass die Leute denken,
wir reden nur und tun nichts.
Subventioniert das von Ihnen geleitete Amt
irgendwelche der Anlagen?
Es gibt Subventionen des Cabildo für Sonnenenergieanlagen
in ländlichen Gebieten, die nur schwer
mit Strom versorgt werden können. Es gibt auch Subventionen
für die Elektrifizierung dieser Gegenden,
wenn der Anschluss mehr als 500 Meter vom Haus
entfernt ist. Es besteht immer weniger Nachfrage
nach derartigen Subventionen, in den ersten Jahren
dagegen waren sie sehr begehrt. Wir haben jetzt ein
niedrigeres Budget als vorher, und trotzdem ist es
normalerweise höher als die Nachfrage.
Wie läuft das Projekt für das neue Elektrizitätswerk?
Wir arbeiten daran und haben die Absicht, eine
Genehmigung von Europa zu bekommen, obwohl wir
uns in einem Z.E.P.A. (besonderen Schutzgebiet für
Vögel) befinden.
Die Parteien sind sich einig und haben für diese
neue Anlage in Monte Agudo gestimmt, dank der wir
die Anlage in El Charco schließen könnten. Zurzeit
werden alle Untersuchungen und Vorbereitungen
durchgeführt, damit das Projekt nicht von Europa
abgelehnt werden kann.
Wir berufen uns darauf, dass der Flughafen von Ciudad
Real in einem Vogelschutzgebiet gebaut wurde,
und dass das Gelände davon stärker beeinträchtigt
wird. Wir verstehen, dass wir die angemessenen Maßnahmen
treffen müssen. Genau das wurde auch am
Flughafen getan. Aber wir glauben nicht, dass unser
Antrag abgelehnt wird.
Was sind Ihre Prioritäten bis Ende der Legislaturperiode
im Jahr 2011?
Das wichtigste ist, die Entwicklung der alternativen
Energien auf der Insel zu ermöglichen und die Formalitäten
zu erledigen, damit die neue Anlage in Monte
Agudo gebaut werden kann.
Auf jeden Fall bitte ich die Bürger, sich bewusst
zu sein, dass die Durchführung des Projektes Zeit
brauchen wird, auch nachdem es von Europa genehmigt
wird.

Carmen Reyes Martín – Desde Porto Alegre en Brasil
“La gente aquí es muy alegre, un poco como
los canarios”

Para esta tinerfeña licenciada en Historia Moderna
por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, oír hablar de
Porto Alegre, cuando con 17 años hacía camas en un
hotel de Paris, sonaba más como un paraíso turístico
que como un lugar en el que pudiera residir en un
futuro no demasiado lejano. Pocos años después,
se asienta en Madrid, donde retoma sus estudios y
trabaja en el área de comunicación y relaciones públicas
para varias empresas hasta que decide crear
su propia empresa.
Cuando en 2004 le ofrecieron a su marido la posibilidad
de dirigir desde Brasil la firma multinacional, con
ámbito en toda Latinoamérica, en la que trabajaba,
no dudó en dejar Madrid. Para ella era “una tercera
vida” y junto a sus dos hijos de 15 y 16 años entonces,
abandona lo que era “una vida de súper ejecutivos”
para “disfrutar de mi familia, estar juntos y tener una
mejor calidad de vida”.
Así que en el mes de abril de 2004 se trasladan
a la ciudad de Porto Alegre, en Brasil. “Esta es una
ciudad que me recuerda mucho a Santa Cruz, llena
de esterlicias y jacarandas.
Al llegar compran una casa cerca del colegio donde
estudiarían sus hijos de los cuales el mayor no se
adaptó al país y regresó a Madrid y les visita de vez en
cuando y, el menor, que se integró estupendamente,
estudia Derecho en Brasil.
“Cuando llegamos no hablaba ni una palabra del
idioma local, así que busqué una profesora particular.
El idioma no es fácil ya que existen muchas palabras
parecidas al español pero con un significado totalmente
diferente. También me ayudó mucho comenzar
a leer literatura brasileña. Aunque en casa y cuando
estamos con amigos españoles hablamos castellano,
en el trabajo y otras actividades sí hablamos portugués…
¡Ahora ya no tengo que leer a Saramago en
castellano!”- comenta entre risas.
En cuanto a su adaptación al entorno, “Nos recibieron
estupendamente. Tenemos muchos amigos
brasileños. La gente aquí es muy alegre, siempre
sonriente, un poco como los canarios. Siempre se
sorprenden de que, siendo europeos, hayamos decidido
residir aquí. Yo siempre les digo que Europa se
ha vuelto un continente triste y que el futuro está en
los países emergentes como este”. “Bien es cierto
que he tenido que esforzarme en ser más amable,
en no usar el imperativo y en estar muy consciente
de que estoy integrada en una cultura muy diferente
a la mía.”
“Cuando llegamos nos parecía estar de nuevo en
Tenerife: Aquí se almuerza, coma allá, a las 12:30.
Si es verdad que extrañamos un poco, al principio,
las costumbres de alimentación: Tienen una cultura
de carne y se consume poco pescado. Ahora ya voy
al mercado central y, poco a poco, voy aprendiendo
cosas nuevas”.
Actualmente y totalmente integrada en esta sociedad
“me dedico a criar caballos árabes, que han
ganado varios premios, tengo una huerta con algunas
gallinas que mantengo, planto y cuido orquídeas, leo
mucho, sobre todo literatura brasileña y, de vez en
cuando, viajo a Buenos Aires o a Montevideo a comprar
libros en castellano. Sobre todo… ¡me divierto
mucho en este país!
De Canarias “extraño mucho a mi familia y ver
el Teide”. En cuanto a las comidas “sigo haciendo
potaje, papas rellenas y todo lo que me enseñó mi
madre” y para matar saudades “entro casi todos los
días en algún periódico canario en Internet”.
Definitivamente afirma que “este es un país del
que me gusta casi todo y del que no contemplo por el
momento marcharme”. ¿Volver a Canarias?... “Para
mí supondría tener que empezar de nuevo otra vez.
Con los años he ido perdiendo la pista de mis amigos
de Tenerife. Realmente mantengo más contacto con
gente de La Gomera, donde pasábamos las vacaciones.
Mi hijo piensa quedarse aquí y además…
¿Dónde encuentro tierra para llevarme y asentar a
mis yeguas…?”

“People here are very happy, a little like
Canarians”

For this women from Tenerife who graduated in Modern
History at the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid,
to hear about Porto Alegre, when, at 17 years old she
was making beds up in a hotel in Paris, sounded more
like a tourist paradise rather than a place where she
would live in a not so distant future. Few years later,
she went back to Madrid and started studying again
and working in communication and public relations
for various companies until she decided to create
her own business.
When in 2004 her husband was offered to go to
Brazil with a multinational company, dealing with the
whole of South America, she did not hesitate to move
from Madrid. She saw this as a new opportunity and
with their two children of 15 and 16 years old at the
time, she gave up what was a life of a super executive
in order to enjoy her family, to be together and have
a better quality of life.
This is how in April 2004 they moved to the town
of Porto Alegre in Brazil. “This is a town that reminds
me a lot of Santa Cruz, full of birds of paradise and
jacarandas”.
When they arrived they purchased a house close to
the school where the children would be studying. The
oldest child never managed to adapt to the country
and went back to Madrid and pays them a visit every
so often and the youngest who adapted perfectly well
is studying law in Brazil.
“When we arrived we couldn’t speak a single word
of the local language, therefore I looked for a personal
teacher. The language is not easy to learn as there
are many words that sound like Spanish words but
have a totally different meaning. Reading Brazilian
literature also helped me a lot. When we are at home
and with Spanish friends we tend to speak Spanish,
but at work and during exterior activities we speak
Portuguese… “Now I don’t have to read Saramago in
Spanish!” she says with a laugh.
As for her adaptation to her surroundings, “We felt
really welcome. We have many Brazilian friends. People
here are very happy, always smiling, a little like Canarians.
They are always surprised that being Europeans
we decided to live here. I always tell them that Europe
has become a sad continent and that the future is in
the emerging countries like this one. Of course I have
had to try to be more pleasant, to not use the imperative
and to be very conscious that I have integrated a
culture that is very different from mine”.
“When we arrived we felt like we had gone back
to Tenerife: here we have lunch, like over there, at
12:30. It is true that at the beginning we missed our
customs regarding food: they have a culture based on
meat and very little fish. Now I go to the main market
and slowly I learn new things”.
Now totally integrated in this society “I have dedicated
myself to breading Arab horses, and we have won
various prizes, I have an orchard with a few chickens,
I plant and breed orchids, I read a lot, mainly Brazilian
literature, from times to times I go to Buenos Aires
or to Montevideo to buy books in Spanish. All in all…
I enjoy myself quite a lot in this country!
Speaking of the Canaries, she says “I miss my
family a lot and seeing el Teide”. As for food “I still
make soup, stuffed potatoes and everything that my
mother taught me” and to fight homesickness “I go
almost daily on the internet to check online Canarian
newspapers”.
She absolutely confirms that “this is a country where
I like almost everything and which I am not planning on
leaving at the moment”. Come back to the Canaries?
“For me it would mean to start everything all over again.
As years have gone by I have slowly lost touch with my
friends in Tenerife. I actually have more contact with
people in La Gomera, where we used to spend our
holidays. My son is thinking about staying here and
furthermore…where would I find land for my horses…?

Diese Frau aus Teneriffa, die ihr Studium an der
Universidad Autónoma in Madrid abgeschlossen hat,
hörte als 17-jährige etwas über Porto Alegre, als sie in
einem Hotel in Paris Betten machte. Es kam ihr eher
wie ein Tourismus-Paradies vor als wie ein Ort, wo sie
in einer nicht sehr fernen Zukunft wohnen könnte.
Wenige Jahre später zog sie nach Madrid, wo sie mit
ihrem Studium weitermachte und für verschiedene
Unternehmen im Bereich der Kommunikation und
der Public Relations arbeitete, bis sie beschloss, ihre
eigene Firma zu gründen.
Als ihrem Mann 2004 die Möglichkeit angeboten
wurde, von Brasilien aus die multinationale Firma,
in der er arbeitete, für ganz Lateinamerika zu leiten,
zögerte sie nicht, Madrid zu verlassen. Für sie war
es ein „drittes Leben“, zusammen mit ihren beiden
Söhnen, die damals 15 und 16 Jahre alt waren, gab
sie das Leben der „Topmanager” auf, um “mehr Zeit
mit meiner Familie zu verbringen und eine bessere
Lebensqualität zu haben”.
Im April des Jahres 2004 zogen sie nach Porto
Alegre in Brasilien. „Diese Stadt erinnert mich sehr an
Santa Cruz, sie ist voll von Strelitzien und Jacaranda-
Bäumen.“
Als sie ankamen, kauften sie ein Haus in der Nähe
der Schule, die ihre Söhne besuchen sollten. Der ältere
von den beiden konnte sich nicht gut integrieren
und kehrte nach Madrid zurück. Er besucht sie ab und
zu. Der jüngere lebte sich sehr gut ein und studiert
Jura in Brasilien.
„Als wir ankamen, sprach ich kein einziges Wort
der örtlichen Sprache, so dass ich eine Privatlehrerin
suchte. Die Sprache ist nicht leicht. Es gibt viele
Worte, die dem Spanischen ähneln, aber eine ganz
andere Bedeutung haben. Es hilf mir auch sehr, die
brasilianische Literatur zu lesen. Obwohl wir zu Hause
und mit unseren spanischen Freunden Spanisch
sprechen, sprechen wir bei der Arbeit und bei anderen
Aktivitäten Portugiesisch … Jetzt muss ich Saramago
nicht auf Spanisch lesen!”- erzählt sie lachend.
Über den Anfang in Brasilien erzählt sie: „Wir
wurden sehr gut aufgenommen und haben viele
brasilianische Freunde. Die Leute hier sind sehr
fröhlich und lächeln viel. Sie haben einiges mit den
Kanariern gemein. Es überrascht sie immer dass wir
- als Europäer – beschlossen haben hier zu wohnen.
Ich erzähle ihnen immer, dass Europa zu einem traurigen
Kontinent geworden ist und dass die Zukunft
Schwellenländern wie diesem gehört. Ich musste
mich natürlich bemühen freundlicher zu sein und den
Imperativ nicht zu verwenden. Außerdem musste ich
mir bewusst sein, dass ich in eine Kultur integriert
bin, die ganz anders ist, als meine.”
Am Anfang waren wir über die kulinarischen Bräuche
erstaunt: Die Einheimischen essen viel Fleisch
und wenig Fisch. Jetzt kaufe ich auf dem Hauptmarkt
ein und lerne nach und nach etwas Neues.“
Heute ist sie ganz und gar in die dortige Gesellschaft
integriert. “Ich züchte arabische Pferde, die
mit verschiedenen Preisen ausgezeichnet wurden,
ich habe einen Obst- und Gemüsegarten mit einigen
Hühnern, ich pflanze und pflege Orchideen, ich lese
viel, vor allem brasilianische Literatur, und ab und
zu reise ich nach Buenos Aires oder Montevideo um
spanische Bücher zu kaufen. Das wichtigste ist, dass
ich mich in diesem Land sehr vergnüge!
Von den Kanaren „vermisse ich meine Familie und
den Blick auf den Teide sehr”. Was das Essen betrifft,
erzählt sie: „Ich mache immer noch Eintopf, gefüllte
Kartoffeln, und alles, was mir meine Mutter beigebracht
hat”, und als Mittel gegen Heimweh „lese ich fast
jeden Tag irgendeine kanarische Zeitung im Internet”.
Sie erzählt: „Dies ist ein Land, wo mir fast alles
gefällt und zurzeit habe ich nicht vor, von hier wegzugehen”.
Auf die Frage, ob sie auf die Kanaren
zurückkehren wird antwortet sie: „Für mich würde das
bedeuten, von vorne anfangen zu müssen. Im Laufe
der Jahre habe ich den Kontakt zu meinen Freunden
aus Teneriffa verloren. Ich habe mehr Kontakte auf
La Gomera, wo wir unseren Urlaub verbrachten. Mein
Sohn hat vor, hierzubleiben, und außerdem bräuchte
ich einen Platz für meine Stuten…”

Encuentro de papagüevos en la Isla

A la fecha de publicación de esta edición, probablemente
Fuerteventura cuente con el record Guiness
de mayor reunión mundial de papagüevos.
Impulsado por los amigos de la Banda Majorera y
con la colaboración de la Consejería de Cultura del
Cabildo y de todos los ayuntamientos insulares, el
pasado día 26 de septiembre, Puerto del Rosario
acogió un acontecimiento único en Fuerteventura y
que se lleva realizando ya desde hace cuatro años en
la vecina Gran Canaria, concretamente el la localidad
de Guanarteme: Un encuentro de papagüevos a nivel
insular, cuyo objetivo era conseguir un Record Guiness.
Con antelación al encuentro se organizaron talleres
de elaboración de papagüevos en varios municipios,
para fomentar la participación.
UN POCO DE HISTORIA
Esta tradición gigantera hunde sus raíces en la
Edad Media, y se extiende, con sus peculiaridades
geográficas, por más de ochenta países por todo el
mundo. Desde muy antiguo los papagüevos (léase
también papahuevos) han estado muy presentes en
la sociedad canaria pues, de alguna u otra manera,
eran y siguen siendo en muchos municipios los
encargados de anunciar y, sobre todo, animar las
fiestas que tenían lugar a lo largo y ancho de toda la
geografía insular.
Si nos apoyamos en la historia, todo apunta a que
inicialmente los papahuevos eran un elemento exclusivo
de las celebraciones religiosas; sin embargo, no
hay duda de que -con el paso de los siglos- dejaron
de ser algo relativo al Corpus Christi para extenderse
a otras muchísimas festividades locales. Tal es así
que, a día de hoy, una inmensa mayoría de nuestras
ciudades, pueblos y villas cuentan con sus propios
mascarones que hacen las delicias del respetable
con su inconfundible danza.
Los papagüevos son los gigantes y cabezudos en la
Península (figuras de cartón piedra para la diversión
de las fiestas). También se emplea este vocablo para
hacer referencia a los gigantes y cabezudos; definiéndolos
como, figuras que representan a gigantes
y enanos de gran cabeza para anunciar y animar las
fiestas. Otras fuentes consideran que la expresión
típicamente canaria papagüevo proviene de “papar”
(comer) y “huevo”; cuyo significado, por aplicación
metafórica, sería el de: persona simple y crédula o
demasiado fácil de engañar.
La primera referencia que tenemos acerca de la
presencia de papagüevos en Canarias la encontramos
en el Diario de Anchieta y Alarcón de 1749:
“Sucedió un caso gracioso y es que en la pared de
la Yglesia de los Remedios que mira a la calle de
La Carrera del lado de arriba de la puerta estaba
un monifato como el papagüebo yacía como mitra
porque decía el D. Vicente que allí como papagüebo
tenían al Obispo”.

Esta expresión también aparece recogida en la
obra de otros muchos escritores canarios célebres
donde, de alguna manera, se certifica la omnipresencia
en las Islas de estas simpáticas figuras de
carácter festivo.
Los Papahuevos de La Rama
No hay duda de que los Papahuevos de la Villa de
Agaete son uno de los elementos más atractivos de
cuantos confluyen en la denominada Fiesta de La
Rama, una festividad en honor a la Virgen de las
Nieves que tiene lugar cada mes de agosto en Agaete,
Gran Canaria. Tradicionalmente los Papahuevos de
Agaete representan a personajes populares de la
Villa y sólo pueden ser bailados mientras vivan los
personajes a quienes representan, retirándose inmediatamente
una que vez éstos fallezcan a excepción
del Papahuevo de Maggie. La señora Maggie era una
periodista americana que -dado el gran amor que sentía
por Agaete- pidió que se le hiciera un Papahuevo
inspirado en su persona y que se bailara para siempre
en la Fiesta de la Rama incluso cuando ella muriese,
y así se hizo y se sigue haciendo. Estas características
hacen que los Papahuevos de Agaete estén situados
entre los más afamados que se bailan en el mundo.
Los Papahuevos de Guía
Hablar de los papagüevos de la ciudad de Santa
María de Guía es, para muchos, hablar de los mejores
papagüevos que actualmente se bailan en toda la
isla de Gran Canaria; sin embargo, otros se inclinan
por una segunda opción que señala como tales a los
papagüevos de la villa marinera de Agaete, realizados
hacia 1940 por el prestigioso escultor D. José de
Armas Medina.
Según cuenta la tradición, desde tiempo inmemorial
la ciudad grancanaria de Santa María de Guía
gozó de una afamada y reconocida comparsa de
papahuevos que muy a menudo recorría las calles del
pueblo en acompañamiento a la Banda del Regimiento
Militar afincado en esta localidad. Sin embargo,
la primera referencia documental y fidedigna que
tenemos sobre los papahuevos de dicho municipio
la hemos encontrado en el periódico grancanario La
Provincia, en cuya edición de fecha viernes 11 de
agosto de 1911 se dice textualmente: “Día 15 de
agosto, a las seis de la mañana, diana floreada por la
Banda Municipal con acompañamiento de Gigantes
y Cabezudos…”

As this issue is being published, Fuerteventura
probably holds the Guiness record for the largest
worldwide meeting of Papagüevos (Carnival’s giant
papier mâché heads).
Promoted by the Banda Majorera friends and with
the collaboration of the Cabildo’s Culture Council and
all the Island’s Ayuntamientos, on 26th September
Puerto del Rosario hosted this unique event that has
been taking place in Gran Canaria for four years already
in Guanarteme: An island Papagüevos meeting
in order to get a Guiness Record.
To prepare for the meeting, workshops were organised
in various municipalities in order to build
papagüevos and to promote participations.
A LITTLE HISTORY
This tradition gets its origins from the Middle Ages
and spreads over eighty countries worldwide with
geographic peculiarities. From the very beginning,
papagüevos (also spelt papahuevos) were very present
in the Canaries and a way for municipalities to
announce and mainly to animate fiestas organised
all over the islands.
According to history, initially, papahuevos were exclusively
used for religious celebrations, however as
time went by they stopped being linked with religious
celebrations and became part of many local fairs. This
is how, nowadays, many towns and villages have their
own papier mâché heads for the entertainment of the
audience with their unmistakable dances.

Other sources say that the typical Canarian expression
comes from “papar” (to eat) and “huevo” (egg);
whose metaphorical meaning would be: simple and
gullible person or someone very easy to fool. The
first reference to papagüevos in the Canaries is in
the Diary of Anchieta and Alarcón of 1749, where the
Papahgüevo displayed by the church was confirmed
as representing the town’s Bishop.
This expression also appears in the texts of many
famous Canarian authors which in some ways confirms
the omnipresence in the Islands of those funny
characters.
The Papahuevos de La Rama
Undoubtedly the Papahuevos de la Villa de Agaete
are one of the main attractions during Fiesta de La
Rama, a fair organised in honour of Virgen de las
Nieves that takes place every August in Agaete, Gran
Canaria. Traditionally, the papahuevos of Agaete represent
popular people from the town and can only
be displayed while the person that is represented is
alive; they are immediately taken away if the person
passes away with the exception of the Papahuevo of
Maggie. Maggie was an American journalist who was
very fond of Agaete and she asked for a Papahuevo
inspired from her image to be made and for it

to always be part of Fiesta de la Rama even after
she passed away and this is what is still happening
nowadays. Those characteristics have made Agaete’s
Papahuevos some of the most famous in the World.
The Papahuevos de Guía
Talking about the papagüevos de Santa María de
Guía is for many people like talking about the best
papagüevos that currently animate the Island of Gran
Canaria; however, others prefer the second option of
the Papagüevos of the coastal village of Agaete that,
until 1940, were created by the prestigious sculptor
Mr. José de Armas Medina.
According to the tradition, the town of Santa María
de Guía in Gran Canaria has always been famous and
recognised for its papahuevos bands that dance along
the streets of the village together with the town’s
Military Band. However the first documented and
reliable reference that we have about papahuevos
in this municipality was found in the newspaper from
Gran Canaria La Provincia, in their edition dated 11th
August 1911 that says “on 15th August, at six in the
morning, reveille by the Municipal Band accompanied
by Giants and Giant Heads…”

Wenn diese Ausgabe erscheint, wird Fuerteventura
vermutlich schon im Guiness-Buch der Rekorde
stehen, da hier das größte internationale Treffen der
Papagüevos stattgefunden hat.
Am 26. September fand in Puerto del Rosario ein
auf Fuerteventura einmaliges Ereignis statt, das von
den Freunden der Kapelle von Fuerteventura mit
Unterstützung des Amtes für Kultur des Cabildos
und aller Gemeinden ins Leben gerufen wurde. Das
gleiche Treffen wird seit vier Jahren auf der nahen
Insel Gran Canaria in Guanarteme organisiert: Ein
Inseltreffen Papagüevos, um ins Guiness Buch der
Rekorde zu kommen.

Vor dem Treffen fanden in verschiedenen Gemeinden
Seminare statt, in denen Papagüevos hergestellt
werden. Dadurch sollte die Bevölkerung animiert
werden, an diesem Ereignis teilzunehmen.
EIN BISSCHEN GESCHICHTE
Diese Tradition der Riesen hat ihre Wurzeln im Mittelalter
und besteht mit verschiedenen Varianten in
mehr als achtzig Ländern. Seit Menschengedenken
spielten die Papagüevos (auch Papahuevos ) in der
kanarischen Gesellschaft eine wichtige Rolle, da sie in
vielen Gemeinden auf die eine oder andere Art dafür
zuständig waren – und noch heute sind – , die Volks-
feste der Insel anzukündigen und vor allem zu beleben.
Wenn wir uns auf ihre Geschichte beziehen, scheint
es, dass die Papahuevos am Anfang ausschließlich
bei den religiösen Feiern auftraten. Es besteht jedoch
kein Zweifel, dass sie im Lauf der Jahrhunderte nicht
mehr zum Corpus Christi gehörten, sondern bei
zahlreichen örtlichen Festen eine Rolle spielten. Und
heute hat die Mehrheit unserer Städte, Ortschaften
und Dörfer ihre eigenen Masken, die mit ihrem unverwechselbaren
Tanz das Publikum erfreuen.
Die Papagüevos sind die Riesen und großköpfigen
Zwerge der iberischen Halbinsel (Pappfiguren, die auf
Festen für Stimmung sorgen). Dieses Wort wird auch
für Riesen und Zwerge mit großen Köpfen verwendet.
Es wird folgendermaßen erklärt: Figuren, die Riesen
und Zwerge mit großen Köpfen darstellen, um Feste
anzukündigen und zu beleben. Nach anderen Quellen
kommt die typische kanarische Bezeichnung
Papagüevo von „papar“ (essen) und „huevo“ (Ei)
und hat folgende metaphorische Bedeutung: Einfache
leichtgläubige Person, die man leicht übers Ohr
hauen kann.
Den ersten Hinweis auf die Papagüevos der Canarias
finden wir im Tagebuch von Anchieta y Alarcón
aus dem Jahr 1749: „Es geschah etwas amüsantes,
an der Wand der Kirche von Los Remedios, in Richtung
der Calle La Carrera, stand an der Tür ein eine
große Puppe, die aussah wie ein Papagüebo, denn
D. Vicente sagte, dass sie dort den Papagüebo als
Bischoff hätten “.
Dieser Ausdrucke kommt in den Werken vieler
berühmter kanarischer Autoren vor, so dass auf
irgendeine Weise bestätigt wurde, dass diese sympathischen
Figuren auf den Inseln allgegenwärtig waren.
Die Papahuevos aus La Rama
Die Papahuevos aus Agaete gehören sicher zu den
attraktivsten Teilnehmern der „Fiesta de La Rama”,
einem Volksfest zu Ehren der „Virgen de las Nieves“,
das immer im August auf Agaete, Gran Canaria, stattfindet.
Traditionell stellen die Papahuevos aus Agaete
bekannte Persönlichkeiten der Stadt dar, die nur so
lange tanzen dürfen, wie die Persönlichkeiten, die
sie darstellen, am Leben sind. Sobald diese sterben,
werden sie sofort entfernt. Die einzige Ausnahme ist
der Papahuevo von Maggie. Maggie war eine amerikanische
Journalistin, die - da sie Agaete sehr liebte
- darum gebeten hatte, dass ein von ihr inspirierter
Papahuevo angefertigt würde, der immer bei der
„Fiesta de la Rama“ tanzen sollte, sogar nach ihrem
Tod. Dies geschah, und diese Maske wird immer noch
verwendet. Wegen ihrer Eigenschaften gehören die
Papahuevos aus Agaete unter den tanzenden Masken
der ganzen Welt zu den berühmtesten
Die Papahuevos aus Guía
Für viele sind die Papagüevos der Stadt Santa María
de Guía die besten, die heute auf der ganzen Insel
Gran Canaria tanzen. Andere dagegen bevorzugen
die Papagüevos aus dem Fischerort Agaete, die um
1940 von dem bedeutenden Bildhauer José de Armas
Medina angefertigt wurden.
Es wird überliefert, dass es seit Menschengedenken
in der Stadt Santa María de Guía auf Gran
Canaria eine berühmte und respektierte Gruppe von
Papahuevos gab, die oft in Begleitung der örtlichen
Regimentskapelle durch die Straßen des Ortes zog.
Das erste Dokument, indem die Papahuevos aus
dieser Gemeinde erwähnt werden, das wir gefunden
haben, ist eine Ausgabe vom 11. August 1911 der auf
Gran Canaria erschienenen Zeitung „La Provincia“,
in der wörtlich steht: “15. August, um sechs Uhr morgens,
Veranstaltung mit der örtlichen Militärkapelle,
Riesen und großköpfigen Zwergen …”

Se puede acceder a las grutas caminando
sobre las rocas y mejor aún
nadando para poder contemplar sus
paisajes interiores, cuando el mar está
en calma. El Mirador, desde el que se
aprecia un paisaje fuerte de rocas mar
abierto con una vista de la pequeña playa
del pueblecito típico de pescadores.
De camino hacia Ajuy, encontramos el
precioso valle de la Vega de Río Palma
y con el Santuario de la Virgen de la
Peña, patrona de la Isla, al que acuden
en masiva romería los peregrinos en el
mes de septiembre, y el Barranco de
las Peñitas donde se recoge el agua de
lluvia de forma natural.
You can get to the caves from the cliffs
or better even,when the sea is calm, by
swimming there in order to be able to
admire the interior of the caves. From
the Mirador you will have the best view
of the cliffs, the sea and the small
beach of this tiny typical fishing village.
On the way to Ajuy, you will go through
the magnificent valley of Vega de Rio
Palma where you can visit the «Virgen
de la Peña» Sanctuary, patron saint of
the Island. This is where many pilgrims
come during the month of September,
as well as at the Barranco de la Peñitas
where the rain water gets
accumulated naturally.
Sie können in die Höhlen gehen, im
Inneren hören Sie das Rauschen des
Meeres, welches eine beruhigende
Wirkung ausübt.. Am Aussichtspunkt
haben Sie eine Sicht auf den kleinen
Strand und das Fischerdorf Ajuy. Auf
dem Weg nach Ajuy gehen wir durch
das schöne Tal von Vega Río de Palma
an der heiligen Jungfrau Virgen de la
Peña vorbei, zu der die Pilger im Monat
September eine Pilgerfahrt machen.
Weiter durch die Schlucht Barranco de
las Peñitas wo auf natürlicher Weise
das Regenwasser in Bächen aus den
Bergehängen hervortritt.

“Los asistentes podrán presenciar la
creación de piezas únicas”

Estamos con una familia de artistas: Antonio Sánchez
junto a sus hijos Francisco Javier y Juan Antonio,
llevan 27 años en Canarias y forman una interesante
combinación creativa que da como fruto distintas tendencias
y técnicas dentro del marco de la cerámica.
Aúnan diseño, pintura, modelado y técnicas mixtas
para conseguir finalmente unas piezas de cerámica
originales, que penetran en el campo de la decoración
y el revestimiento de interiores en algunas de sus
creaciones. Todo esto y más podrán admirarlo en su
taller y exposición “Nopal” en La Oliva.
Utilizando diferentes materiales como base, tales
como la piedra volcánica, el basalto, etc., crean obras
de gran belleza que se prestan a distintos usos.
Por otro lado, en la parte más comercial sus piezas
son bien conocidas y representativas de la isla.
Sus cabritas y figuras ataviadas con trajes típicos,
son de líneas estilizadas sin perder la tradición y de
gran belleza, pero de ellas ya nos ocupamos en un
anterior reportaje. Nuestro encuentro de hoy tiene
un motivo especial. Estamos invitados a presenciar
la fabricación de unas piezas de cerámica por medio
de una técnica basada en una ceremonia milenaria
de origen japonés, (alrededor del año 1512), que
lleva por nombre “RAKU”.
La familia nos cuenta que en las antiguas ceremonias
del té, el primer paso consistía en modelar
y cocer la taza o vaso que cada participante iba a
utilizar durante la ceremonia. Se hacia en sencillos
hornos de leña a no muy altas temperaturas y en
este proceso los colores se fundían en diversos tonos
irisados y de forma única en cada pieza.
No obstante si alguno resultaba demasiado idéntico
a otro debía ser destruido y fabricado de nuevo,
para que cada invitado tuviese su recipiente de té
absolutamente identificado y especial.
¿Y la técnica de enfriamiento de la pieza cómo se
realiza en tan poco tiempo?
Francisco Javier - Ya en la antigüedad se utilizaba
el serrín, el papel, la arena o agua, y estos métodos
de cambios térmicos junto con la humación que se

y técnica, aunque en algunos casos entre los tres
llegamos a procesos concretos. No obstante todo ha
ido evolucionando y cada vez nuestras piezas viven
ese cambio artístico.
Juan Antonio - La evolución, aún en las piezas más
comerciales es importante, seguimos creando hasta
el punto de que una simple cabrita de la primera
etapa no tiene nada en común con las actuales. No
obstante combinar arte con un precio asequible para
crear bonitos recuerdos de Fuerteventura no es fácil.
¿Qué otros trabajos pueden hacer en su taller?
Antonio - Diseñamos y elaboramos desde cartelería,
cuadros cerámicos, trofeos, murales, etc. Seguimos
creando aunque yo voy delegando cada vez más
en mis hijos, que siempre contaran con mi apoyo.
Originalmente sólo se usaban dos colores, el rojo y
el negro en su cocción, luego al llegar a occidente se
amplió la gama de colorido y los hornos alcanzaron
temperaturas más altas.
Esta ceremonia sería larguísima, ¿no?
Juan Antonio - No tanto, ya que tanto el material
como el horno de cocción que se empleaban y se
emplean en la actualidad son especiales para ello y
se tarda aproximadamente una hora.
De hecho nuestra idea es hacer una exhibición
en fechas periódicas e invitar a presenciarla consiguiendo
una pieza única que posteriormente sería
subastada entre los presentes.

¿No han pensado en crear una escuela de cerámica?
Antonio - Curiosamente con esa idea vinimos a
Fuerteventura; nos entusiasmamos con la creación
del centro de Arte Canario de La Oliva más conocida
como “Casa Mané”. Estuvimos con ellos desde la
inauguración y la intención era crear un taller escuela.
Al ser ustedes tres personas diferentes, surge la
pregunta inevitable, ¿Quién marca las pautas en
cada elaboración?

pieces”

We are meeting a family of artists: Antonio Sánchez
and his children Francisco Javier and Juan Antonio,
who have lived in the Canaries for 27 years and are
an interesting creative combination that results in various
techniques working with ceramics. They combine
design, painting, modelling and mixed techniques
to create original ceramic pieces of which some will
be used in interior decorating. All those creations can
be viewed in their workshop and exhibition called
“Nopal” in La Oliva.
Using various base materials such as volcanic rock,
basalt, etc., they create beautiful pieces of multiple
uses. On the other hand, as for the commercial side
of their business, their pieces are very well known
and represented on the island. Their goats and little
statuettes dressed up in traditional costumes are
very stylish but still very traditional and quite beautiful
but we already covered those in a previous interview.
Today’s meeting has a special objective. We were
invited to witness the fabrication of ceramic pieces
with a Japanese thousand-year-old technique, (dating
from about 1512), that is called “RAKU”.
The family tells us that during the old tea ceremonies,
the first stage was to create the cup or glass
that each participant would use during the ceremony.
It was made in simple firewood ovens at low temperatures
and during this process the colours used to
melt into various iridescent and unique tones on
each piece.
However if some piece ended up looking too much
like another it would be destroyed and a new one was
made so that each guest would get a cup that was
absolutely unique and special.
Originally, only two colours were used, red and black
and when the technique reached Western countries,
the colour scheme expanded and oven reached higher
temperatures.
This ceremony would be extremely long, wouldn’t it?
Juan Antonio – Not that much, because the material
and the oven that were and are still used, are
especially made for this and the process takes about
one hour.
This is where our idea comes from to organise a
regular exhibition and invite people to be present for
the creation of a unique piece that would later be
auctioned amongst the audience.
And how does the cooling technique take so little
time?
Francisco Javier – Already during antiquity they
used sawdust, paper, sand or water and those methods
of thermal changes combined with the smoking
that is produced during this phase are what give its
definitive texture to each piece.
Have you never thought of creating a ceramic
school?
Antonio – Strangely this is the idea that brought us
to Fuerteventura; we were inspired with the creation
of the Centro de Arte Canario in La Oliva also known
as “Casa Mané”. We were with them at the inauguration
when we intended to create a workshop school.
As there are three of you, there is the inevitable
question of who is in charge in each elaboration?
Francisco Javier – We each have our own style
although in some cases we end up with very similar
results. However it has all been evolving and our
pieces represent this artistic change.
Juan Antonio – The evolution is noticeable even
for the commercial pieces to the point that a simple
goat from the first stages has nothing in common with
the goats created nowadays. However combining art
at an affordable price in order to create souvenirs of
Fuerteventura is no easy task.
What else do you do in your workshop?
Antonio – We design and create cards, ceramic
picture frames, trophies, murals, etc. We keep on
creating although I delegate more and more work
to my children who will always get my support.

Wir haben eine Künstlerfamilie getroffen: Antonio
Sánchez und seine Söhne Francisco Javier und Juan
Antonio sind seit 27 Jahren auf den Kanaren und
machen eine interessante kreative Kombination, aus
der im Rahmen der Keramik verschiedene Trends und
Techniken entstehen.
Sie verbinden Design, Malerei, Modellierung und
verschiedene Techniken, um originelle Keramikstücke
herzustellen, die in einigen Fällen in den Bereich
Sägemehl, Papier, Sand oder Wasser. Und diese
Methoden der thermischen Veränderung gegeben
jedem Stück, zusammen mit der Räucherung, die in
dieser Phase durchgeführt wird, die endgültige Textur.
Haben Sie noch nicht daran gedacht, eine Keramikschule
zu eröffnen?
Antonio – Es ist interessant, dass wir mit dieser
Absicht auf die Insel gekommen sind. Wir waren von
der Gründung des Zentrums für kanarische Kunst in
und diese künstlerischen Veränderungen lassen sich
in jedem unserer Werke feststellen.
Juan Antonio – Die Entwicklung ist sogar bei den
kommerziellsten Stücken wichtig. Wir sind schöpferisch
tätig und unsere ersten Zicklein haben nichts
mit unseren heutigen gemein. Aber es ist trotzdem
nicht leicht, Kunst und einen erschwinglichen Preis
zu kombinieren, um schöne Andenken aus Fuerteventura
herzustellen.

Dabei verwenden diese Kunsthandwerker verschiedene
Materialien wie Vulkanstein, Basalt usw.

verschiedenen Zwecken verwendet werden können.
Außerdem sind die kommerziellsten ihrer Werke
sehr bekannt und kennzeichnend für die Insel. Ihre
kleinen Ziegen und mit traditionellen Trachten gekleideten
Figuren sind gleichzeitig stilisiert und traditionell,
außerdem sind sie sehr schön. Aber mit diesen
haben wir uns schon in unserer letzten Reportage
befasst. Unser heutiges Treffen hat einen besonderen
Grund. Wir sind eingeladen, bei der Herstellung
einiger Keramikstücke zuzuschauen, die mit einer
Technik hergestellt werden, welche auf eine tausendjährige
japanische Tradition zurück geht (sie stammt
ungefähr aus dem Jahr 1512) und „RAKU” heißt.
Die Familie erzählt uns, dass früher die Teezeremonien
damit begannen, alle Tassen oder Becher
zu formen und zu brennen, die von den Teilnehmern
während der Zeremonie benutzt wurden. Dies geschah
in einfachen Holzöfen bei nicht sehr hohen
Temperaturen. bei diesem Prozess vermischen sich
die Farben zu verschiedenen schillernden Tönen, so
dass jedes Stück einzigartig wird.
Trotzdem mussten die Stücke, die anderen zu sehr
ähnelten, zerstört werden. Es musste eine neue
Tasse hergestellt werden, damit jeder Gast seinen
Tee aus einem einzigartigen und speziellen Gefäß
trinken konnte.
Ursprünglich wurden dabei nur zwei Farben verwendet:
rot und schwarz. Als die Technik in den Westen
kam, wurde das Farbspektrum erweitert und die Öfen
erreichen höhere Temperaturen.
Dauert diese Zeremonie nicht sehr lange?
Juan Antonio – Nein, denn sowohl das Material
als auch die Öfen, die dafür verwendet wurden und
noch immer verwendet werden, sind speziell dafür
bestimmt. Man braucht ungefähr eine Stunde.
Wir möchten in regelmäßigen Abständen Darbietungen
vor Publikum machen, bei denen ein außergewöhnliches
Stück hergestellt wird, das wir am Ende
unter den Anwesenden versteigern.
Wie kann das Stück so schnell abkühlen?
Francisco Javier – Schon früher verwendete man
La Oliva begeistert, dass unter dem Namen „Casa
Mané” bekannt ist. Wir waren seit der Gründung dort
und beabsichtigten eine Schule zu gründen.
Da Sie drei sehr verschiedene Persönlichkeiten
haben, müssen wir fragen, wer die Normen für die
Herstellung der Werke festsetzt?
Francisco Javier – Jeder hat seinen eigenen Stil
und seine eigene Technik, aber manchmal arbeiten
wir auch zusammen. Wir haben uns weiterentwickelt,
Welche weiteren Arbeiten können Sie in Ihrer
Werkstatt durchführen?
Antonio – Wir entwerfen und stellen alles Mögliche
her: Plakate, Keramikbilder, Trophäen, Wandbilder
usw. Wir sind weiterhin künstlerisch tätig, aber ich
lasse meine Söhne immer mehr von de Arbeit machen,
obwohl sie immer mit meiner Unterstützung

Antigua cerró sus fiestas con un
brindis de vino en honor al pueblo
Der Eucharistie folgte ein volkstümlicher Trinkspruch
mit Wein zu Ehren des Volkes von Antigua. Beim
Abschluss des Festes wurden die Bürger eingeladen,
im nächsten Jahr wieder zu kommen. Der krönende
Abschluss war eine Prozession, die von der Militärkapelle
des Regiments Soria Nr. 9 begleitet wurde.

Die Ausstellung wurde von der Projektion von
Abbildungen ergänzt, auf denen der Anfang, die Entwicklung

des Projektes zuständigen Architektin, Silvia Buján,
zu und besuchten die Fotoausstellung, die die Gemeinde
über die Geschichte des Platzes von Antigua
organisiert hatte.

Las Fiestas de Antigua llegaron a su fin y lo hicieron
por todo lo grande, con una exhibición pirotécnica a
cargo de los hermanos Toste de los Realejos y una verbena
que se prolongó hasta las seis de la madrugada,
con los grupos Bomba y Guajavi de Fuerteventura.
Las Fiestas rendieron honores a Nuestra Señora de
La Antigua en la eucaristía solemne que el párroco
de Valleseco en Gran Canaria, Juan Carlos Arencibia
Suárez ofreció a todos los vecinos del municipio.
Tras la Eucaristía un brindis popular, con un vino
en honor al pueblo de Antigua, cerró las fiestas quedando
citados así para las próximas a celebrarse
dentro de un año. El broche final lo puso la procesión
acompañada por la banda militar del Regimiento
Soria Nº 9.
Antigua ended its fairs with a
toast in honour of the village
Antigua’s fair came to an end in style with a Fireworks
display carried out by the Toste de los Realejos
brothers and an open-air dance that lasted until six
in the morning with the groups Bomba and Guajavi
of Fuerteventura.
The Fair was organised in honour of Nuestra Señora
de La Antigua with the solemn Eucharist of Juan Carlos
Arencibia Suárez, the Parrish priest of Valleseco
in Gran Canaria.
After the Eucharist a toast took place in honour
of the village of Antigua to close the Fair and invite
everyone for next year’s celebrations. The final touch
was the procession guided by the military band of the
Soria Nº 9 Regiment.

Das Volksfest von Antigua wurde in großem Stil mit
einem Feuerwerk der Brüder Toste de los Realejos
beendet. Die Abschlussveranstaltung, bei der die
Gruppen Bomba und Guajavi aus Fuerteventura
auftraten, dauerte bis sechs Uhr morgens.
Im Rahmen des Volksfestes wurde die Heilige
Jungfrau Nuestra Señora de La Antigua bei der
Eucharistie geehrt, die der Pfarrer des aus Valleseco
(Gran Canaria), Juan Carlos Arencibia Suárez, für alle
Bürger der Gemeinde vollzog.
El Ayuntamiento organizó durante sus Fiestas
Patronales una charla-coloquio sobre la evolución y
la imagen final que tendrá el popular Proyecto de la
Plaza de Antigua.
La charla contó con la asistencia de más de 150
vecinos del municipio, que presenciaron con atención
y en silencio, las explicaciones dadas por la diseñadora
y arquitecta del Proyecto de Remodelación de
la Plaza de Antigua, Silvia Buján.
La exposición se acompañó con la proyección de
imágenes que reflejaban el inicio, evolución, y los
resultados finales de la obra.
Más de 150 vecinos escucharon a la diseñadora y
arquitecta del proyecto, Silvia Buján, y disfrutaron de
la exposición de fotografía organizada por el Ayuntamiento
sobre la Plaza de Antigua en diferentes años,
y momentos.

The Ayuntamiento organised a conference during
the Local Fair about the evolution and final image of
Antigua’s Square.
The conference attracted over 150 neighbours of
the municipality who listened with attention and in
silence to the explanations from Silvia Buján, the
designer and architect of Antigua’s Square’s remodelling
project.
The exhibition included the projection of pictures
showing the project’s beginning, evolution and final
result as well as an exhibition of photos organised by
the Ayuntamiento about Antigua’s Square at different
times and occasions.

Die Gemeinde organisierte im Rahmen ihrer ihres
Volksfestes einen Vortrag mit Diskussion über die
Entwicklung und die endgültige Gestaltung des populären
Projektes für den Platz von Antigua.
Bei dem Vortrag waren mehr als 150 Bürger der
Gemeinde anwesend, die den Erklärungen der Architektin
des Projektes für den Platz von Antigua, Silvia
Buján, aufmerksam und leise zuhörten.
El pasado mes de septiembre se celebró el XVIII Rally
de Antigua con la participación de 34 corredores, y
ante la expectación de numeroso público distribuido
en cada una de las atalayas que ofrece el circuito de
Los Alares para presenciar y sentir de cerca el paso
de los coches.
Entre los vencedores, Samuel Lemes logró una
ajustada victoria sobre Tato Suárez, y Gustavo Sosa
consiguió con empeño, la tercera plaza. También entre
los ocho corredores de Antigua, Aníbal Hernández
Acosta junto a Orlando Araya León, y Javier Fránquiz
junto a Raúl Díaz Negrín lograron el 5º y 7º puesto
respectivamente, imponiendo calidad y empeño en
sus carreras.
El Rally de Antigua esta considerado como una de
las mejores pruebas del Campeonato de Canarias
de Rallys de Tierra, y cuenta con la participación de
escuderías de todas las islas.
En esta ocasión el XVIII Rally de Antigua contó con
catorce tramos cronometrados, de 7,7 kilómetros
el de mayor distancia, y 2,1 kilómetros el tramo seleccionado
para el espectáculo que se llenó de un
público ansioso de presenciar el rally hasta el final
de la prueba.

racers
Last September saw the celebration of the 18th
Rally of Antigua where 34 racers participated and a
large public attended at every view point available
on the circuit of Los Alares to see the race up close.
Amongst the winners, Samuel Lemes only just managed
to win over Tato Suárez and Gustavo Sosa won
the third place thanks to his dedication. Furthermore,
amongst the eight racers from Antigua, Aníbal Hernández
Acosta together with Orlando Araya León, and
Javier Fránquiz together with Raúl Díaz Negrín won
the 5th and 7th places respectively demonstrating
quality and dedication during the race.
Antigua’s Rally is considered as one of the best
events during the Canaries’ Championship of Dirt
Track Rallies and welcomes racing teams from all

This 18th Rally of Antigua consisted of fourteen
timed stages of 7,7 km for the longest one down to
2,1 km for the stretch selected for the show which
welcomed a public anxious to attend this rally until
the very last stage.

Im September fand die XVIII. Rallye. von Antigua
statt, an der 34 Rennfahrer teilgenommen haben.
Zahlreiche Besucher kamen zu den verschiedenen
Aussichtspunkten, die eingerichtet wurden, damit
die Zuschauer das Autorennen verfolgen konnten.
Unter den Gewinnern schaffte Samuel Lemes einen
knappen Sieg gegen Tato Suáre, und Gustavo Sosa
kam nach großer Anstrengung auf den dritten Platz.
Unter den acht Rennfahrern aus Antigua kamen auf
den Aníbal Hernández Acosta und Orlando Araya
León den 5 Platz, während Javier Fránquiz und Raúl
Díaz Negrín auf den 7. Platz kamen. Sie zeigten Qualität
und Anstrengung.
An der Rallye von Antigua, die als eine der besten
Prüfungen der kanarischen Meisterschaft für Schotterrallyes
gilt, nehmen Rennfahrer aller Inseln teil.
Bei der XVIII. Rally von Antigua gab es vierzehn
Strecken, an denen die Zeit gemessen wurde. Die
längste von diesen ist 7,7 Kilometer lang. Die Strecke,
die für die Aufführung ausgewählt wurde, war 2,1
Kilometer lang und wurde von einem Publikum gefüllt,
das scharf darauf war, bis zum Schluss dabei zu sein.
Un convenio con el SCE propicia
trece contrataciones en Pájara
El departamento de Medio Ambiente y la Agencia
de Desarrollo Local (ADL) de Pájara se beneficiarán
del convenio suscrito entre el Ayuntamiento y el
Servicio Canario de Empleo (SCE), que propicia la
contratación, por seis meses, de trece desempleados.
Los trabajadores iniciaron sus labores este mismo
mes de septiembre y hasta el de febrero del próximo
año.
El grueso de este personal pasará a disposición
de la concejalía de Playas y Medio Ambiente, por lo
que realizará labores de conservación, limpieza y
cuidado del medio natural. Gracias a este convenio

se potenciarán las campañas de limpieza de las playas
y cauces de los barrancos del municipio; aparte
de afrontar iniciativas como la de repoblación de
endemismos.
El conjunto de acciones se enmarca en el Plan Integral
de Revalorización Urbana y Paisajística, lo que
también será un aporte más para que el municipio
ofrezca al turismo un territorio mucho más cuidado
y limpio.
En cuanto a la Agencia de Desarrollo Local de Pájara,
este convenio garantiza la contratación de un
auxiliar administrativo, que vendrá a reforzar esta
agencia, de reciente creación. La potenciación de
la ADL será fundamental ya que esto incidirá positivamente
en la reactivación de mercados de trabajo,
bolsa de empleo, etcétera.
El SCE es una entidad que ayuda mucho a las corporaciones
locales a desarrollar iniciativas de alto
valor, medioambiental y en materia de contratación
en este caso, por lo que espera que próximamente
se suscriban más convenios con este organismo.
An agreement withthe SCE creates
thirteen contracts in Pájara
The department of Environment and Local Development
Agency (ADL) of Pájara benefited from the
agreement between the Ayuntamiento and the Canarian
Employment Service (SCE) that created jobs for
thirteen unemployed people in six months.
Workers started in September and will be employed
until next February.
Most of this staff works for the Beaches and Environment
council and carries out duties of preservation,
cleaning and care of natural spaces. This agreement
will benefit cleaning campaigns of beaches and
barrancos of the municipality as well as the initiatives
of repopulation of residents in the area.
Those actions are part of the Integral Plan of Urban
and Landscaping Revaluation which will also contribute
to a better Tourism offer with a municipality that
looks cleaner and well cared for.
As far as the Local Development Agency of Pájara
is concerned, this agreement guarantees the employment
of one administrative assistant who will come
to reinforce this recently created agency. This action
will be fundamental for the ADL and will boost the
employment market.
The SCE is an entity that provides help to local
corporations to develop precious initiatives for the environment
and employment and it is hoped that more
agreements will be signed with this organisation.

Das Departement für Umwelt und die Agentur für
örtliche Entwicklung (ADL) von Pájara wird von dem
Abkommen zwischen der Gemeinde und dem kanarischen
Beschäftigungsdienst (SCE) profitieren, welcher
dreizehn Arbeitslosen für sechs Monate Arbeit
verschaffen wird.
Die Arbeitnehmer haben im September mit den
Arbeiten begonnen, die bis zum Februar nächsten
Jahres dauern werden.
Dieses Personal wird den Ämtern für Strände und
Umwelt zur Verfügung gestellt und wird Arbeiten für
den Erhalt, die Reinigung und die Pflege der Natur
durchführen. Dank diesem Abkommen werden die
Kampagnen für die Reinigung der Strände und der
Flussbetten der Barrancos der Gemeinde unterstützt..
Außerdem werden Initiativen wie die Wiedereinführung
von endemischen Arten durchgeführt.
Diese Eingriffe geschehen im Rahmen des Plans für
die Aufwertung von Stadt und Landschaft und werden
auch dazu führen, dass die Gemeinde den Touristen
eine saubere und gepflegte Umgebung bieten kann
Was die Agentur für die örtliche Entwicklung von
Pájara betrifft, gewährleistet dieses Abkommen die
Beschäftigung von Hilfspersonal, welches diese neue
Agentur unterstützen wird. Die Stärkung des ADL ist
sehr wichtig, da sie sich positiv auf den Arbeitsmarkt,
die Stellenangebote usw. Auswirken wird.
Das SCE ist eine Einrichtung, die örtliche Körperschaften
dabei unterstützt wichtige Initiativen im Bereich
der Umwelt und Beschäftigung zu entwickeln.
Man geht davon aus, dass demnächst weitere Abkommen

Sociales de Fuerteventura
El Ayuntamiento prepara la celebración de las Primeras
Jornadas Municipales de Servicios Sociales
de Fuerteventura, que se desarrollarán en el Sur de
la isla el próximo mes de noviembre.
En este encuentro se analizarán asuntos de la
importancia de la atención a menores en situación
de riesgo, de cómo gestionar la actividad destinada
a los mayores, todo lo relacionado con la atención
domiciliaria o la básica, o la asistencia a inmigrantes.
También se abordará la situación de la mujer en la
isla, y se tratará de aunar esfuerzos para optimizar
resultados y minimizar gastos gracias a posibles
acciones comunes.
Además de los alcaldes y concejales de Servicios
Sociales de los seis ayuntamientos de Fuerteventura,
también se invitará a los técnicos municipales que
trabajan en estas materias, para así garantizar que
las Jornadas sean más fructíferas.
Los comedores sociales, las políticas específicas
del área de la mujer y las ayudas a las familias más
necesitadas o en situación de pobreza extrema son
loe temas que principalmente y entre otros, también
serán tratados.
Esta primera experiencia sentará precedente y
servirá para que los ayuntamientos de Fuerteventura
aúnen esfuerzos y experiencias para mejorar en su
prestación de servicios públicos en el ámbito social.

on the island and will aim to unite efforts to get the

potential common actions.
Furthermore, in addition to the Mayors and Social
Services Councillors of all six Ayuntamientos of Fuerteventura,
the municipal technicians who work in this
area will also be invited, which will guarantee more
fruitful Open Days.
Social canteens, specific policies regarding women
and help to families in need or in situation of extreme
poverty are some of the main subjects that will be
dealt with.
This first experience will precede others and will
be useful for Fuerteventura’s Ayuntamientos who will
unite their efforts and experiences to improve their
social public services.

in Risikosituationen, darum, wie man Aktivitäten
für Erwachsene organisiert, alles was mit der
Betreuung zu Hause und mit der Grundversorgung
und der Betreuung von Immigranten zu tun hat.
Außerdem wird über die Situation der Frauen auf
der Insel gesprochen. Es wird versucht, mit vereinten
Kräften dafür zu kämpfen, dass die Ergebnisse optimiert
und die Kosten für die Gemeinden so gering
wie möglich gehalten werden.
Außer den Bürgermeistern und den Beauftragten
für Soziales der sechs Gemeinden von Fuerteventura
werden auch die Techniker der Gemeinden eingeladen,
die mit diesen Bereich zu tun haben. Dadurch
soll gewährleistet werden, dass diese Tage zu nützlichen
Ergebnissen führen.
Die wichtigsten Themen sind die Armenküchen, die
Frauenpolitik und die Hilfen für die ärmsten Familien.
Dieses erste Treffen wird dazu führen, dass die
Gemeinden von Fuerteventura ihre Kräfte und ihre
Erfahrungen vereinen, um die öffentlichen Leistungen

10.000 VECINOS DE LA OLIVA SE BE-

TRIBUCIÓN DE AGUA DE VILLAVERDE A
LAJARES
Alrededor de 10.000 vecinos residentes en las localidades
de Villaverde, Lajares, La Oliva, El Roque y
El Cotillo se beneficiarán de las obras de instalación
de una nueva red de distribución de agua, que viene
realizando el Consejo Insular de Aguas
El contrato de obras se denomina ‘Red de distribución
de aguas desde Villaverde alto a Lajares y
cuenta con un presupuesto de 440.016 euros y un
plazo de ejecución de los trabajos de ocho meses.
Los trabajos ya han comenzado con la apertura de la
zanja de canalización, que actualmente avanza en el
entorno del casco de La Oliva. El proyecto plantea dar
continuidad a una red de distribución que actualmente
está en servicio ya entre el depósito de La Oliva y
Villaverde alto, con un diámetro de 220 mm. y de la
que se beneficia todo el entorno de Lajares.
Sin embargo, en Villaverde y especialmente en
su zona alta seguían detectándose carencias relacionadas
con el rápido aumento de la demanda de
consumo de agua. Ante ello, se instalará otra red de
220 mm, de la que además podrán beneficiarse los
núcleos de El Roque y El Cotillo, así como los aledaños
a la zona del campo de fútbol de Villaverde. En
conjunto, se calcula que la instalación de la nueva
red podrá beneficiar a unos 10.000 habitantes del
municipio de La Oliva.
De esta forma, la nueva red empieza desde Villaverde
alto y la traza se desarrollará hasta llegar al
cruce de Lajares, discurriendo en todo su recorrido
paralela a los viales públicos, para así aprovechar la
servidumbre generada por las vías y caminos públicos
existentes. El aumento de caudal de agua disponible
beneficia también alas localidades circundantes que
se aprovisionan a través de redes conectadas a la
nueva de Villaverde a Lajares.

Approximately 10.000 people who live in Villaverde,

new distribution network that is being installed by the
Island’s Water Council.
The contract called “Water distribution network
between higher Villaverde and Lajares” represents
440.016 euros and will take eight months to be
completed. Work has already started with the opening
of the canalisation trenches that are currently being
dug out in the area of La Oliva. The project aims to
extend the network with canalisations of 220 mm
that already exists between the water deposit in La
Oliva and higher Villaverde and in the area of Lajares.
However, in Villaverde and especially in the higher
area shortages kept on happening because of the
fast increase in demand. As a consequence, another
network with a diameter of 220 mm will be installed
that will also benefit the areas of El Roque and El
Cotillo as well as the surrounding areas of the football
ground in Villaverde. In total it is estimated that
10.000 people in La Oliva’s municipality will benefit
from the new network.
The new network will start from higher Villaverde
and will reach the crossroads in Lajares, and will be
conveniently installed parallel to all the existing public
roads. The increase in available water volume will also
benefit other neighbouring areas that are connected
on the Villaverde – Lajares network.

Der Vertrag für die Bauarbeiten heißt ‚Wasserversorgungsnetz
von Villaverde alto bis Lajares’ und
verfügt über ein Budget von 440.016 Euro: Die Frist
für den Abschluss der Arbeiten beträgt acht Monate.
Die Arbeiten begannen mit der Eröffnung des
Kanalisationsgrabens, der zurzeit in der Umgebung
des Stadtkerns von La Oliva voranschreitet. Mit dem
Projekt wird beabsichtigt, ein Versorgungsnetz zu
erweitern, das zurzeit schon zwischen dem Depot
von La Oliva und Villaverde in Betrieb ist und einen

In Villaverde wurden jedoch Mängel entdeckt, was
vor allem mit der steigenden Nachfrage nach Wasser
zu tun hat. Dies gilt vor allem für den oberen Teil des
Ortes. Nun wird ein weiteres Netz von 220 mm eingerichtet,
das auch von den Ortschaften El Roque und El
Cotillo sowie in der Umgebung des Fußballplatzes von
Villaverde genutzt werden kann. Man schätzt, dass
ungefähr 10.000 Einwohner der Gemeinde La Oliva
von dem neuen Netz profitieren werden.
Dieses neue Netz beginnt in Villaverde und wird bis
zu der Kreuzung von Lajares reichen. Es wird parallel
zu den öffentlichen Straßen verlaufen, um so die von
den bestehenden öffentlichen Wegen gewährleistete
Dienstbarkeit zu nutzen. Die Steigerung der verfügbaren
Wassermenge wird auch den umliegenden Ortschaften
nutzen, die mit dem neuen Netz zwischen
Villaverde und Lajares verbunden werden.
COMIENZA LA ÚLTIMA FASE DE LAS
OBRAS DE REHABILITACIÓN DEL CASCO
ANTIGUO DE CORRALEJO
El proyecto de rehabilitación del casco histórico
de Corralejo, uno de los cuatro proyectos del Fondo
Estatal de Inversión Local, acaba de entrar en su última
fase de ejecución, que afecta principalmente a
la calle de la Iglesia y a la de Isla de Lobos. Las obras
que han comenzado a tener lugar en estas zonas se
habían programado para septiembre con el objetivo
de interferir lo menos posible en su actividad comercial
en la temporada de mayor afluencia de público.
Las obras incluyen la retirada de pérgolas, la canalización
del alumbrado público, telecomunicaciones,
abastecimiento de agua y cambio del alcantarillado,
la rehabilitación de fachadas, el soterramiento del
tendido aéreo, la instalación del nuevo pavimento y
el acondicionamiento de los accesos a la playa.
La última fase de las obras se ha dividido en cuatro
etapas para que los establecimientos de la zona puedan
seguir trabajando mientras avanza la ejecución
del proyecto hacia su objetivo, mejorar la estética del
casco viejo y revitalizar el comercio.

BEGINNING OF THE LAST PHASE OF
REHABILITATION OF CORRALEJO’S OLD
TOWN
The project of rehabilitation of Corralejo’s old town,
which is one of four projects of the Local Investment’s
State Fund, has just entered its final stage that concerns
mainly Calle de la Iglesia and Calle de Isla de
Lobos. This stage was programmed for September
in order to affect as little as possible the commercial
activity during the busy tourist season.
This stage consists of removing pergolas, burying
street lighting, electric and telecommunication cables,
water pipes and sewer drains, renovating facades,
pavements and accesses to the beach.
The final phase has been divided in four stages so
that the businesses of the area can keep working
while the project keeps on advancing until its objective
of improving the image of this old neighbourhood
and boosting business.
BEGINN DER LETZTEN PHASE DER RES-
TAURIERUNGSARBEITEN DER ALTSTADT
VON CORRALEJO
Vor kurzem begann die letzte Phase des Projektes
für die Restaurierung des historischen Stadtkerns von
Corralejo. Es ist eines der vier Projekte des staatlichen
Fonds für örtliche Investition. Diese Phase betrifft vor
allem die Straße, die zur Kirche führt, und das Eiland Lobos.
Die Bauarbeiten haben schon begonne. Sie waren
für September geplant, denn sie sollten auf keinen Fall
den Handel in der Hauptsaison beeinträchtigen.
Zu diesen Arbeiten gehört die Entfernung von
Pergolas, die öffentliche Beleuchtung, Telekommunikationen,
die Wasserversorgung, die Erneuerung
der städtischen Kanalisation, das Eingraben des
Luftnetzes, die Installierung eines neuen Bodens und
die Herrichtung der Zugänge zum Strand.
Die letzte Phase der Bauarbeiten wurde in vier
Abschnitte eingeteilt, damit die Firmen der Gegend
während der Ausführung des Projektes für die Erneuerung
der Altstadt und die Wiederbelebung des
Handels weiter arbeiten können.

Finalizan las obras del CEIP Cristóbal
García Blairzy
Después de dos años de trabajos, el colegio situado
en la localidad de Gran Tarajal, estába finalizado para
comienzo del curso escolar.
El Ayuntamiento atiende con ello, la demanda de la
comunidad educativa que pedía en su día la remodelación
integral del centro, motivada principalmente,
por el contenido de amianto en los techos.
Para ello, el Gobierno Canario decidió invertir más
de 1.300.000 euros con destino a sufragar los costes
derivados de la reforma interior y la mejora de su instalación
eléctrica. Las obras ejecutadas no sólo incluyen
las sustituciones de los falsos techos, como se ha
mencionado anteriormente, sino que también se ha
cambiado la carpintería exterior del edifico.
Como novedad, se han instalado lamas orientables
de accionamiento manual para la protección solar en
las ventanas del edificio. Asimismo, se han sustituido
algunos tabiques divisorios existentes de poco aislamiento
acústico por dobles paneles de cartón-yeso, al
tiempo que se trabajaba en el aislamiento interior de
lana de roca y se construían tabiques trasdosados en los
muros de la fachada. Finalmente, también se ha remodelado
la instalación eléctrica del edificio, mejorándola
y adaptándola a las nuevas necesidades educativas.
Los alumnos de infantil y primaria del colegio García
Blairzy de Gran Tarajal volvieron así a su colegio
después de su traslado provisional a la antigua
residencia de la localidad, situada en el Palmeral.

García Blairzy
After years of building work, the school situated in
Gran Tarajal was completed on time for this school term.
The Ayuntamiento responded to the demand of
complete refurbishment of this centre which was
mainly due to asbestos in the ceilings.
Therefore the Canarian Government decided to
invest 1.300.000 euros in order to cover the costs
of the interior refurbishment and improvement of
electric installations. The building work carried out
did not only consist of replacing the false ceilings but
also the building’s interior carpentry.
As a novelty, manual blinds have also been fitted on
the building’s windows. Furthermore, some existing
dividing walls that did not respond to noise reduction
demands were substituted by panels of double plaster
board panels while Rockwool was fitted for isolation
and walls were repaired on the facade. Finally, the
building’s electrics were rewired in order to improve
and adapt it to the new educational demand.
Students from the García Blairzy school in Gran Tarajal
therefore came back to their school after it was provisionally
transferred to an older building in el Palmeral.

Nach zwei Jahren Bauarbeiten wird die Schule in Gran
Tarajal zum Beginn des neuen Schuljahres fertig sein.
Die Gemeinde führt diese Arbeiten durch, da die
Pädagogen damals die völlige Umgestaltung des
Zentrums gefordert hatten. Der Grund dafür war vor
allem der hohe Asbestgehalt an den Decken.
Deshalb beschloss die Regierung der Kanaren,
mehr als 1.300.000 Euro zu investieren, um für die
Kosten des vorherigen Umbaus und der Verbesserung
der elektrischen Installation des Gebäudes aufzukommen.
Zu den durchgeführten Arbeiten gehört nicht
nur das Auswechseln der Doppeldecken, wie vorher
erwähnt wurde, sondern es wurde auch das äußere
Gerüst des Gebäudes ausgewechselt.
Als Neuheit wurden manuell steuerbare Lamellen
installiert, um die Fenster des Gebäudes vor der Sonne
zu schützen. Außerdem wurden einige der bestehenden
Trennwände, die sehr lärmdurchlässig waren,
durch doppelte Gipskartonplatten ersetzt. Gleichzeitig
wird an der inneren Isolierung mit Steinwolle
gearbeitet, und in den Mauern der Fassade werden
verstärkte Trennwände eingebaut. Außerdem wurde
die elektrische Installation des Gebäudes verbessert
und an die neuen Bedürfnisse der Schule angepasst.
Die Schüler der Vorschule und der Grundschule des
Schulzentrums García Blairzy in Gran Tarajal werden
nach der vorläufigen Auslagerung in das ehemalige
Altersheim des Ortes, das in el Palmeral liegt, in ihre
Schule zurückkehren.

Canarias se prepara para hacer frente a la
gripe A

La Consejería de Sanidad del Gobierno de Canarias
ha adelantado la campaña de vacunación contra
la gripe estacional para evitar que coincida con la
campaña frente a la gripe A. De hecho, las vacunas
se están administrando desde el pasado 15 de septiembre
y se van a concentrar en tan solo dos meses.
El Gobierno canario dispone de 300.000 dosis frente
a la gripe común, que suele afectar a un porcentaje
de la población establecido entre el 5 y el 15%. La
consejera de Sanidad, Mercedes Roldós, insiste en
remarcar que la gripe H1N1 y la estacional “son virus
distintos y, por lo tanto, tendrán que vacunarse otra
vez si pertenecen a los grupos de riesgo”.
INMUNIZACIÓN Y GRUPOS DE RIESGO
El gobierno español ha anunciado que su objetivo
es tener una reserva para inmunizar al 60% de la
población, es decir, a unos 27 millones de españoles.
La prioridad será para los denominados grupos de
riesgo de los que finalmente han sido excluidos los
menores de 14 años que, en un principio, iban a ser
vacunados. El Ministerio de Sanidad ha confirmado
los casos que conforman los grupos preferentes,
entre los que se encuentran: embarazadas, enfermos
crónicos, personal sanitario y cuerpos y fuerzas de
seguridad del Estado: bomberos y policías.
RECOMENDACIONES
En los últimos meses se han hecho públicas innumerables
recomendaciones para prevenirse frente
al contagio de la gripe A. Poco a poco, a medida
que se conoce más sobre el virus y su propagación,
los gobiernos han intentado transmitir un mensaje
de tranquilidad y perfilar las sencillas medidas que
pueden ayudar a la población a protegerse.
Medidas personales
- Cuidar la higiene personal: lavarse las manos con
frecuencia con agua y jabón.
- Usar pañuelos desechables en caso de tos o
estornudo. Para tirarlos a la basura introducirlos,
previamente, en una bolsa de plástico.
Medidas en nuestro entorno
- Ventilar la casa diariamente.
- Limpiar las superficies y objetos de uso común de
forma frecuente con los productos habituales.
- El uso de mascarillas no es recomendable de
forma generalizada.
SÍNTOMAS
Si la prevención es fundamental, no menos importante
es informarse acerca de los síntomas de la gripe
A. Los más habituales son la fiebre (más de 38ºC),
la tos y el malestar general. También se puede tener
dolor de cabeza, dolor de garganta, dolor muscular
y, en ocasiones, diarrea y vómitos
Ante la aparición de estos síntomas se recomienda
acudir al médico y evitar automedicarse. En caso de
padecer la gripe el médico determinará el tratamiento
con la medicación correspondiente, el control de la
temperatura corporal y el cuidado de la hidratación.
INFORMACIÓN
El Ministerio de Salud de España dispone de un
teléfono de información y atención al ciudadano
para resolver cualquier duda sobre la nueva gripe A/
H1N1: 901 400 100.
Informarse y aplicar las medidas preventivas son
los factores básicos para evitar la alarma excesiva
que se creó en un primer momento cuando apareció
esta nueva variedad de gripe. El sistema sanitario
está preparado y así lo certifican voces autorizadas
como la de Mercedes Roldós: “Esto es como una
guerra, uno puede ir como el ejército de Pancho Villa,
sin preparar, o ir preparado. Y eso es lo que estamos
haciendo responsablemente”.

The Canaries gets ready to face Swine Flu

The Canarian Government’s Health Council has
brought forward the vaccination campaign against
seasonal flu in order to avoid its interference with
the campaign against Swine flu. In fact, jabs started
being administered on 15th September and will be
concentrated over a two months period.
The Canarian Government disposes of 300.000
jabs against common flu which tends to affect
between 5 and 15% of the population. The Heath
Councillor, Mercedes Roldós, points out that the
H1N1 flu and the common flu are two different viruses
and therefore people that are at risk should get
vaccinated for both.
IMMUNISATION AND GROUPS AT RISK
The Spanish Government has announced that its
objective is to keep a reserve in order to immunise
60% of the population, which represents 27 million
people.
Priority will be given to groups that are at risk of
which children aged under 14 years old, that were
initially going to be vaccinated, have been excluded.
The Health Ministry has confirmed the groups
concerned which are: pregnant women, chronically
ill people, health staff, the military, fire-fighters and
police forces.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Over the past few months many recommendations
have been made public in order to prevent Swine Flu
contamination. Slowly, as we find out more about
this virus and how it propagates, governments have
tried to get across a message of tranquillity and give
simple guidelines that can help the population to
protect themselves.
Personal measures
- Be careful with personal hygiene: wash hands
frequently with water and soap.
- Use disposable tissues when coughing or
sneezing. Put them in a plastic bag before throwing
them in the bin.
Measures in our environment
- Ventilate the house daily.
- Clean commonly used surfaces and objects frequently
with usual products.
- The use of a mask is not generally recommended.
SYMPTOMS
If prevention is fundamental, so is it to be aware
about Swine flu symptoms. The most common ones
are over 38ºC fever, toss and general unwell state.
It can also include head, throat and muscular aches
and in some cases diarrhoea and vomiting.
If those symptoms appear, it is recommended to go
to your doctor and avoid auto-medication. If you suffer
from the flu, your doctor will determine the adequate
treatment to control body temperature and take care
of hydration.
INFORMATION
The Spanish Health Ministry disposes of a telephone
number for information and to resolve any doubts
about the new A/H1N1 flu: 901 400 100.
To get information and adopt preventive measures
are basic necessities in order to avoid excessive
states of alarm as it was the case initially when this
new flu type appeared. The Health Service is prepared
as Mercedes Roldós’ confirms: “This is like at war,
one decides to go like Pancho Villa’s army, without
preparing, or to prepare. And this is what we are
responsibly doing”.

Die Kanaren bereiten sich darauf vor, der
Grippe A die Stirn zu bieten

Das Gesundheitsamt der Regierung der Kanaren
hat seine Kampagne für die Impfung gegen die saisonbedingte
Grippe vorverlegt um zu verhindern, dass
diese gleichzeitig mit der Kampagne gegen die Grippe
A stattfindet. Einige Impfungen werden seit dem 15.
September verabreicht und die ganze Kampagne wird
nur zwei Monate dauern.
Die Regierung der Kanaren verfügt über 300.000
Dosen Impfstoff gegen die allgemeine Grippe, die
normalerweise 5 bis 15 % der Bevölkerung befällt.
Die Beauftragte für Gesundheit, Mercedes Roldós,
betont, dass die Grippe H1N1 und die saisonbedingte
Grippe “von verschiedenen Viren verursacht werden,
deshalb müssen sich diejenigen, die zu den Risikogruppen
gehören, zwei mal impfen lassen”.
IMMUNISIERUNG UND RISIKOGRUPPEN
Die spanische Regierung hat angekündigt, dass sie
beabsichtigt eine Reserve für die Immunisierung von
60 % der Bevölkerung bereit zu stellen, das heißt für
ungefähr 27 Millionen Spanier.
Dabei werden die sogenannten Risikogruppen die
Priorität haben, zu denen die unter 14-jährigen, die
eigentlich geimpft werden sollten, nun doch nicht
gezählt werden. Das Gesundheitsministerium hat die
bevorzugten Gruppen bekannt gegeben. Zu diesen
gehören: Schwangere, chronisch Kranke, Personal
sanitärer Einrichtungen und Sicherheitskräfte des
Staates (Feuerwehrleute und Polizisten).
EMPFEHLUNGEN
In den vergangenen Monaten wurden unzählige
Empfehlungen veröffentlicht, wie man sich vor der
Grippe A schützen kann. Als mehr über den Virus
und seine Verbreitung bekannt wurde, versuchten
die Regierungen nach und nach, die Bevölkerung
zu beruhigen und die einfachen Maßnahmen zu
treffen, durch welche die Bevölkerung geschützt
werden kann.
Persönliche Maßnahmen
- Auf die persönliche Hygiene achten: Hände oft mit
Wasser und Seife waschen.
- Bei Husten und Niesen Einwegtaschentücher
verwenden. Diese sollte man in eine Plastiktüte tun,
bevor man sie in den Papierkorb wirft.
Maßnahmen in unserer Umgebung
- Zuhause jeden Tag lüften.
- Oberflächen und gemeinsam benutzte Gegenstände
oft mit den normalen Produkten reinigen.
- Die allgemeine Nutzung von Schutzmasken wird
nicht empfohlen.
SYMPTOME
Es ist sehr wichtig, Vorbeugungsmaßnahmen zu
ergreifen, aber es ist genauso wichtig, sich über die
Symptome der Grippe A zu informieren. Die üblichsten
Symptome sind hohes Fieber (mehr als 38º C),
Husten und Unwohlsein. Dazu können Kopfschmerzen,
Halsschmerzen, Muskelschmerzen und manchmal
Durchfall und Erbrechen kommen.
Bei Auftreten dieser Symptome wird empfohlen,
zum Arzt zu gegen und sich nicht selbst zu verarzten.
Wenn man die Grippe A hat wird der Arzt eine Behandlung
mit der richtigen Medizin bestimmen und dabei
die Körpertemperatur und den Flüssigkeitshaushalt
kontrollieren.
INFORMATION
Das spanische Gesundheitsministerium verfügt
über eine Telefonnummer, bei der die Bürger informiert
und beraten werden, damit jegliche Unklarheiten
über die neue Grippe A/H1N1 geklärt werden:
901 400 100.
Es ist sehr wichtig, sich zu informieren und Vorbeugungsmaßnahmen
zu ergreifen, damit es nicht
wieder zu einem so übertriebenen Alarm kommt wie
zu dem Zeitpunkt, als diese neue Grippe ins Gespräch
kam. Das Gesundheitssystem ist gut vorbereitet. Dies
bestätigen Politiker wie Mercedes Roldós: „Das ist
wie im Krieg, man kann dort unvorbereitet hingehen
wie die Armee von Pancho Villa, oder vorbereitet. Und
wir bereiten uns verantwortungsbewusst darauf vor“.

Una pequeña isla, Reserva de la Naturaleza
desde 1982, conocida por sus cornisas volcánicas.
Además, la zona marítima entre Lobos y Corralejo
está declarada área de reserva submarina por la
riqueza de sus fondos y su diversidad biológica. Una
vez allí, podemos aprovechar la visita y conocer el
Espacio Natural Protegido de las Dunas de Corralejo.
Otro punto destacado es la Caleta de Fuste, cuyos
fondos mezclan las blancas arenas con las piedras,
o Costa Calma, ubicada en el sur de la isla en el
municipio de Pájara.
Pero las opciones son prácticamente infinitas, ya
que en cada punto de Fuerteventura puede descubrirse
un auténtico tesoro para la inmersión. Las cuevas
del pueblo de Ajuy en la costa oeste de la isla, la
insuperable riqueza de fauna y flora en Sotavento,…
Los más de 260 kilómetros de litoral con los que

In autumn, the island of Fuerteventura gives us the

Diese Insel ist im Sommer und im Herbst ideal zum
Tauchen. In diesen Jahreszeiten sind die Gewässer,
die die Insel umgeben, noch klarer als sonst und man
kann sogar tiefer als 30 Meter sehen. Außerdem verfügt

EMPFOHLENE ORTE

Tauchsport auszuwählen: Die Insel Lobos gehört zu
den spektakulärsten Gegenden. Diese kleine Insel,
die 1982 ein Naturschutzgebiet wurde, ist für ihre
Vulkanlandschaft bekannt. Außerdem wurde der Meeresabschnitt
zwischen Lobos und Corralejo aufgrund
seiner Meeresgründe und seiner biologischen Vielfalt
zum Untersee-Naturschutzgebiet erklärt. Wenn wir
einmal dort sind, können wir die Gelegenheit nutzen,
um das Naturschutzgebiet der Dünen von Corralejo
kennenzulernen.
Anderer außergewöhnliche Orte sind Caleta de
Fuste, in dessen Meeresgründen weißer Sand mit
Steinen vermischt ist und das zu der Gemeinde von
de Pájara gehörende Costa Calma im Süden der Insel.
Es gibt unzählbare Möglichkeiten, da man überall
auf Fuerteventura wunderbare Stellen zum Tauchen
entdecken kann. Die Grotten des Dorfes Ajuy im Osten
der Insel, der unübertreffliche Reichtum an Fauna
und Flora in Sotavento,… Die mehr als 260 Kilometer
lange Küste von Fuerteventura ist reich an unglaublichen
Orten und es gibt zahlreiche Tauchzentren, wo
man Unterricht nehmen und das notwendige Material
mieten kann, um einen Tag unter Wasser zu genießen.

Enoturismo por Canarias: Otra forma de ocio

En los últimos años, el enoturismo se consolida
como un tipo de turismo alternativo en el que conocer
nuevos lugares a través de la cultura del vino. Rutas
por bodegas, catas de caldos, actividades y excursiones
y un mundo por descubrir que desatarán tus
sentidos. Te proponemos interesantes rutas y lugares
que no puedes dejar de visitar.
Los vinos canarios
En Canarias hallamos vinos de excelente calidad,
nacidos de la tierra volcánica y una tradición de siglos.
Cuenta con diversas Denominaciones de Origen muy
preciadas y encontradas en restaurantes gourmet
Variedad Tintilla
a nivel tanto nacional como internacional. Algunos
ejemplos son la DO Gran Canaria, que abarca toda la
producción de esta isla y destaca por sus variedades
de tinto (Negramoll, Tintilla y Malvasía Negra); la DO
Lanzarote, que en su región de la Haría cuenta con
3.350 hectáreas de viñedos que dan vinos afrutado
y frescos; o la del Hierro, con variedades de uvas
blancas (Albillo, Bastarda, Bermejuela, Breval, Burrablanca...)
y negras (Listán, Bastardo, Negramoll,
Tintilla, Vijariego y Malvasía rosada).
Rutas por sus regiones y bodegas
La Palma
En la isla de la Palma podemos hacer varios recorridos
para conocer sus bodegas y el equilibrio perfecto
de sus vinos. El Consejo Regulador de Vinos de La
Palma nos recomienda la ruta de los volcanes y la
malvasía. Nos encontramos con pasajes vitícolas
abruptos, como la de Los Llanos Negros (en Funcaliente)
debajo del volcán de San Antonio, donde se
hallan extensas superficies de Malvasía, una de las
variedades más importante de toda la isla.
Se trata de ir de bodega en bodega y probar sus
La Geria, Lanzarote
variedades, por ello podemos visitar Bodegas Carballo,
con una larga tradición en la zona donde adquirir
Malvasía Blanca Fina, con un cultivo totalmente biológico,
y comprar vinos ideales para aperitivo y postre.
Bodegas Juan Matías es una de las más antiguas
de esta zona que empieza a elaborar sus vinos a
finales del siglo XIX. El resultado son vinos propios,
realizados entre lo artesanal y las nuevas tecnologías.
Además de Malvasía, son recomendables sus tintos,
variedad Negramoll.
Gran Canaria
Esta Denominación se encuentra incluida, pero
diferenciada la comarca del Monte Lentiscal, ubicada
entre el Monumento Natural de Bandama y el Paisaje
Protegido de Tafira, territorio protegido por la Ley de
Espacios Naturales de Canarias dentro de los términos
municipales de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria,
Telde y Santa Brígida.
La elaboración de los vinos de la denominación
Gran Canaria, incluida la Comarca del Monte Lentiscal,
es mayoritariamente tinto, y se realiza con uvas
de las variedades tradicionales canarias, aunque la
dominante es el Listán Negro.
Aquí podemos dar una vuelta por la Casa del Vino,
en la Villa de Santa Brígida, es un edificio histórico
y rehabilitado de más de dos siglos de antigüedad,
el marco ideal dónde degustar los vinos de la Denominación
de Origen Gran Canaria, y conocer en un
marco inigualable, la historia vitivinícola de la isla.
También podemos ir a las Bodegas Las Tirajanas,
que hoy se consolida como una de las mayores bodegas
de Gran Canaria. Ocupa una superficie de más
de 1.800 m2, produce un volumen anual de 250.000
hectolitros de vino, y sus variedades han recibido
varios premios, como el vino blanco Las Tirajanas o
su famosa Malvasía. Recomendamos los tintos en
barrica, con aromas varietales entremezclados.
Lanzarote
La posición de la isla de Lanzarote hacen que se
halle en un clima subtropical seco con precipitaciones
escasas que se distribuyen de una manera irregular a
lo largo de todo el año, provocadas en su mayor parte
por las borrascas Atlánticas del Suroeste.
A pesar de las pocas lluvias y los calores procedentes
del cercano continente africano, la isla reúne condiciones
para la viticultura, un milagro que se debe
a la larga tradición de los viticultores y a la benéfica
acción de los vientos alisios, que favorecen humedad
del Atlántico para la elaboración de caldos sabrosos.
Las zonas de plantación se encuentran repartidas
entre el Norte, la zona de Tinajo y la Geria. Hay extensas
bodegas para saborear los vinos de la zona.
Podemos destacar las bodegas Barreto, de origen
de 1950 con una modesta producción de 200 litros.
Las variedades que actualmente comercializa son
el Blanco Malvasía Semidulce y Seco, Tinto Joven,
Tinto Barrica, Licor de Moscatel y Licor de Malvasía,
con diversos premios por su exquisito sabor. También
nos acercamos a Bodegas La Geria, ubicada en el
centro del Paraje Natural de La Geria. Con capacidad
para 300.000 litros, elabora seis tipos de vinos, y
está abierta al público todos los días del año para
ser visitada.

interesting routes and sites that we feel you should
plan to visit.
Canarian Wines
We have excellent quality wines in the Canaries,
born from volcanic earth and centuries’ old traditions.
There are various famous Denominations of Origin
that can be found in fine restaurants on both national
and international levels. Some examples are the
Gran Canaria Denomination of Origin that includes
the whole production of this island and is known
for its red wine varieties such as Negramoll, Tintilla
and Malvasía Negra; the Lanzarote Denomination of
Origin situated in the area of Haría consists of 3.350
acres of vineyards that produce fruity and refreshing
wines; or that of El Hierro with varieties of white grapes
such as Albillo, Bastarda, Bermejuela, Breval,
Burrablanca... and black grape with Listán, Bastardo,
Negramoll, Tintilla, Vijariego and Malvasía rosada.
Routes to discover various areas and
wine cellars
La Palma
On the island of La Palma there are various routes
available to discover its wine cellars and the perfect
balance of its wines. The Wine Regulating Council
of La Palma recommends the volcano route and the
Malvasía. There are abrupt viticultural landscapes
such as Los Llanos Negros (in Funcaliente) below the
San Antonio volcano with extensive areas of Malvasía,
one of the most important varieties of the island.

It is nice to go from one wine cellar to another and
sample their varieties. Bodegas Carballo and their
great local traditions of the area is where we can buy
Malvasía Blanca Fina, completely biological wines
that are perfect for pre-diner drinks and deserts.
Bodegas Juan Matías is one of the oldest of the
area and started their production at the end of the
19th century. This results in wines that are original
and produced with a mixture of traditional and new
technologies. In addition to Malvasía, red wines of the
Negramoll variety are also recommended.
Gran Canaria
This Denomination is included but differentiated
from the region of Monte Lentiscal, situated between
the Natural Monument of Bandama and the protected
landscape of Tafira, which is protected by the Canarian
Natural Spaces Law within the municipalities of
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde and Santa Brígida.

now one of the largest wine cellars in Gran Canaria.
They occupy a surface of over 1.800 square metres

Lanzarote
The island’s location means that it benefits from a

by areas of low pressure from the South West Atlantic.
With scarce rain falls and warm temperatures due
to the closeness to the African continent, the island
possesses perfect conditions for viticulture, a miracle
that is the result of old viticultural traditions and the
beneficial effect of the Trade Winds that take advantage
of the Atlantic Ocean’s humidity to create perfect
vine growing conditions.
The vine growing areas are situated between the
North, the area of Tinajo and la Geria. There are large
wine cellars where one can sample local wines. There
is for example the wine cellar of Barreto that dates
from 1950 and produces a mere 200 litres. The varieties
that are currently commercialised are the White
Malvasía semi-sweet and dry, Tinto Joven (Young
Red), Tinto Barrica (Red Barrel), Licor de Moscatel
and Licor de Malvasía that received various prizes for
their exquisite flavours. It is also worth paying a visit
to the wine cellar of La Geria which is situated in the
centre of the Paraje Natural de La Geria. It produces
300.000 litres and elaborates six different types of
wines; it is open to the pubic every day all year round.

Die kanarischen Weine
Auf den Kanaren finden wir ausgezeichnete
Qualitätsweine, die aus einer Jahrhunderte alten
Tradition auf dem vulkanischen Boden entstehen.
Es gibt verschiedene Herkunftsbezeichnungen, die
sowohl in spanischen als auch in internationalen
Feinschmeckerrestaurants hoch geschätzt werden.
Zu diesen gehören die Weine mit der Herkunftsbezeichnung
Gran Canaria, zu der alle Weine dieser
Insel gezählt werden. Hier sind die Rotweinarten
besonders gut (Negramoll, Tintilla und Malvasía Negra).
Die Herkunftsbezeichnung Lanzarote verfügt in
der Region Haría über 3.350 Hektar Weinberge, wo
fruchtige und frische Weine erzeugt werden. Dazu
kommen die Weine aus El Hierro, die aus weißen
(Albillo, Bastarda, Bermejuela, Breval, Burrablanca...)
und dunklen Trauben (Listán, Bastardo, Negramoll,
Tintilla, Vijariego und Malvasía) hergestellt werden.
Routen durch die Regionen und Bodegas
La Palma
Auf der Insel La Palma können wir verschiedene
Rundfahrten machen, um ihre Bodegas und ihre
ausgezeichneten Weine kennenzulernen. Die Aufsichtsbehörde
für Wein von La Palma empfiehlt uns
die Route der Vulkane und der Malvasia-Traube.
Wir befinden uns in einer Landschaft mit steilen
Weinbaugebieten. Dazu gehört Los Llanos Negros
(in Funcaliente) unter dem Vulkan von San Antonio,
wo sich die weitläufigen Malvasía-Felder befinden.
Dies ist eine der bedeutendsten Weinarten der Insel.
Man sollte von einer Bodega zur anderen gehen,
um deren Weinsorten zu probieren. Zu diesem Zweck
können wir die Bodega Carballo besuchen, die in der
Gegend eine lange Tradition hat. Dort können wir
biologisch angebauten weißen Malvasía kaufen sowie
Weine, die ideal als Aperitif und zum Nachtisch sind.
Die Bodega Juan Matías ist eine der ältesten der Gegend.
Dort wird seit Ende des XIX. Jahrhunderts Wein
hergestellt. Das Ergebnis sind eigene Weine, die mit
traditionellen und modernen Techniken hergestellt
werden. Außer dem Malvasía werden ihre Rotweine
Negramoll empfohlen.
Gran Canaria
Zu dieser Herkunftsbezeichnung gehört auch die
Region von Monte Lentiscal, die sich von den anderen

Weinbaugebieten der Insel unterscheidet. Sie liegt
zwischen dem Naturdenkmal von Bandama und dem
Naturschutzgebiet von Tafira, einem vom Gesetz über
die Naturräume der Kanaren geschützten Gebiet, das
zu den Gemeinden Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde
und Santa Brígida gehört.
Die Mehrheit der Weine mit der Herkunftsbezeichnung
Gran Canaria, einschließlich der Region von
Monte Lentiscal, sind Rotweine, die aus traditionellen
kanarischen Traubenarten hergestellt werden, von
denen die typischste Listán Negro heißt.
Hier kann man die Casa del Vino in Villa Santa Brígida
besuchen. Es ist ein historisches restauriertes
Gebäude, das mehr als zwei Jahrhunderte alt ist. Es
ist der ideale Ort, um Weine aus Gran Canaria zu
probieren und in einem unvergleichlichen Rahmen
die Geschichte des Weinbaus auf der Insel kennenzulernen.
Wir können auch die Bodega Las Tirajanas besuchen,
die heute zu den bedeutendsten Bodegas von
Gran Canaria gehört. Sie verfügt über eine Fläche von
mehr als 1.800 m² und produziert 250.000 Hektoliter
Wein. Einige ihrer Sorten, wie der Weißwein Las
Tirajanas und der berühmte Malvasía haben Preise
gewonnen. Wir empfehlen die Rotweine aus kleinen
Fässern mit einer Vielfalt von vermischten Aromen.
Lanzarote
Die Insel Lanzarote liegt in einem trockenen subtropischen
Klima mit wenig Regen, der das ganze
Jahr über in unregelmäßigen Abständen fällt und
zum großen Teil von den atlantischen Unwettern des
Südwestens erzeugt wird.
Obwohl es selten regnet und die Hitze vom nahen
afrikanischen Kontinent herüberkommt, hat die Insel
die richtigen Voraussetzungen für den Weinanbau.
Dieses Wunder entstand aus der langen Weinbautradition
und dem wohltuenden Wirken der Passatwinde,
die mit der Feuchtigkeit des Atlantik die Entstehung
der wohlschmeckenden Weine begünstigen.
Die Weinbaugebiete liegen zwischen dem Norden,
der Gegend von Tinajo und La Geria. Dort gibt es
große Bodegas, in denen man die Weine der Gegend
kosten kann. Wir können die seit 1950 bestehende
Bodega Barreto erwähnen, die mit einer bescheidenen
Produktion von nur 200 Litern begann. Heute verkauft
dieses Unternehmen die Arten des lieblichen und
trockenen Malvasía, jungen und alten Rotwein, Likör
aus Muskateller-Trauben und aus Malvasía-Trauben.
Diese Weine erhielten wegen ihrem hervorragenden
Geschmack verschiedene Preise. Wir nähern uns auch
der Bodega La Geria, die inmitten der Naturlandschaft
von La Geria liegt. Sie hat eine Kapazität für 300.000
Liter, stellt sechs Weinarten her und ist das ganze Jahr
über für die Besucher geöffnet.
