“Roll Up Your Sleeves & Get the MWBE Application Done” on<br />

Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Y Enterprise,<br />

28 Wells Avenue, Building 3, 6th Floor, Yonkers, NY 10701.<br />

Jean Kristensen, www.MWBESuccess.com, will assist attendees<br />

to apply for certification that will help them to win government<br />

contracts and increase sales.<br />

Latino Heritage Family Festival at Newark Museum on October 26<br />

Newark, NJ.- The Newark Museum presents its Latino Heritage Family Festival on Saturday October<br />

26, 2013 from 1 to 4 pm. The festival features music, dancing, art-making, discovery and family fun<br />

while honoring Latino customs and cultural contributions. All festival events are FREE with suggested<br />

admission unless otherwise noted.<br />

Events at the Festival<br />

•1:00 pm<br />

Jorge Estrada and his Trio performs Decima, the traditional music of the jibaro (the people) of Puerto Rico at<br />

1 pm in Horizon Plaza.<br />

•At 2 pm<br />

Ethnomusicologist José Obando and his musical group will perform using authentic instruments and dance<br />

rhythms to tell the story of the African roots of Caribbean music. Obando will also share stories of the slave trade<br />

to the Latin American colonies and its profound impact on contemporary American musical culture. Areas to<br />

be covered include: geography, history, anthropology, ethnomusicology, religion and African studies. Obando,<br />

salsa consultant for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Department of Musical Instruments, is one of the founders<br />

of the Salsa Museum in Spanish Harlem, New York, as well as its former executive director.<br />

•Other events throughout the day include: Family Fun tours<br />

of the Museum’s exhibitions in English and Spanish; creative<br />

art-making activities; scientific discoveries and an afternoon<br />

of fun activities related to the family exhibit, Generation Fit:<br />

Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle; Planetarium shows (additional<br />

fee required); and adventures with a Solar Telescope.<br />

•The Blood Center of New Jersey Blood Mobile will be on site<br />

during the festival and everyone who donates blood will be<br />

entered into a drawing for tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII. As<br />

an added bonus, donors will receive two free tickets for the<br />

Planetarium show of their choice. Planetarium tickets may be<br />

redeemed at the Admissions Desk for available shows, November<br />

1 - December 20, 2013.<br />
