quality and security concerns as well. Remote<br />

<strong>satellite</strong> (VSAT) terminals are linked to geosynchronous<br />

<strong>satellite</strong>s that are connected to<br />

a secure teleport just outside of Washington<br />

D.C. Critical customer data never has to land<br />

in foreign facilities or traverse uncertain local<br />

infrastructures. All sites can be connected directly<br />

to US telecom networks including the Internet<br />

and public switched telephone network (PSTN).<br />

<strong>International</strong> locations can also be connected<br />

directly to private networks or handed-off to<br />

certified gateways for access to high security<br />

government environments. The core <strong>satellite</strong><br />

network infrastructure is based on Spacenet’s<br />

field proven SkyEdge VSAT system and will be<br />

managed through its 24 x 7 Network Operations<br />

Centers in Atlanta, Georgia and McLean, Virginia.<br />

NORSAT AWARDED DEPARTMENT<br />

OF DEFENSE CONTRACTS<br />

Norsat <strong>International</strong> has signed <strong>satellite</strong> system<br />

contracts, totalling about $1.2 million, with the U.S.<br />

Department of Defense (DoD). The contracts are<br />

expected to be fulfilled in the company’s fourth<br />

quarter. As per the terms of the agreement, Norsat<br />

will sell Navisystem’s marine <strong>satellite</strong> terminals<br />

under the Norsat brand in North America, and<br />

Navisystem will act as a non-exclusive reseller<br />

of Norsat’s <strong>satellite</strong> systems in Europe,<br />

the Middle East and Asia. In addition, the two<br />

companies will explore opportunities for joint<br />

development projects, working to leverage each<br />

company’s respective technology expertise to<br />

introduce a suite of marine <strong>satellite</strong> terminals<br />

that meet the varying needs of government and<br />

commercial maritime markets worldwide.<br />

COSTA RICA<br />

ICE DEPLOYS GILAT SKYEDGE<br />

BROADBAND SATELLITE NETWORK<br />

Gilat Satellite Networks has been selected by<br />

Costa Rica’s national telecommunications operator<br />

Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE),<br />

to provide a Gilat SkyEdge broadband <strong>satellite</strong><br />

communications network that will serve end users<br />

throughout Costa Rica. ICE will use the new<br />

VSAT network to expand its programs to provide<br />

toll-quality telephony to rural citizens, meeting its<br />

Universal Service Obligations. The network will<br />

also provide <strong>satellite</strong> backhaul for wireless Internet<br />

access to those citizens. Using this mix enables<br />

the service provider to benefit from the advantages<br />

of each technology -- <strong>satellite</strong>’s nationwide reach<br />

and wireless’ cost-effective, “last mile” access.<br />

HONDURAS<br />

GILAT DEPLOYS SKYEDGE<br />

BROADBAND SATELLITE NETWORK<br />

Gilat Satellite Networks has completed deployment<br />

of a SkyEdge broadband <strong>satellite</strong> network for<br />

Administradora de Redes (Aduanett), a private company<br />

owned by Honduras’ leading customs brokers.<br />

Administradora de Redes will use the VSAT network<br />

to provide customs offices and other Honduran<br />

businesses with private networking services including<br />

interactive data, broadband Internet access,<br />

and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Gilat’s<br />

SkyEdge is a <strong>satellite</strong> communications system that<br />

<strong>del</strong>ivers high-quality voice, broadband data and<br />

video services over a powerful unified system.<br />

MEXICO<br />

CONDUX AWARDS CONTRACT TO CAPROCK<br />

CapRock Communications, a global provider of <strong>satellite</strong><br />

communications to remote and harsh environments,<br />

has signed a three-year agreement with<br />

Condux S.A. de C.V. to <strong>del</strong>iver VSAT communication<br />

services onboard its fleet of construction vessels.<br />

Condux, a leading offshore construction services<br />

company and subsidiary of Mexican-based Grupo<br />

Protexa, has chosen CapRock’s services to provide<br />

its clients with reliable communications to support<br />

daily offshore operations. CapRock will deploy<br />

a seamless turnkey solution that includes equipment,<br />

service, maintenance and support for a fixed<br />

monthly price. The solution represents Condux’ initial<br />

adoption of an always-on communication service.<br />
