Micorrizas arbusculares en ecosistemas áridos y semiáridos
Arbuscular mycorrhizae in arid and semi-arid ecosystems
Acknowledgments
This book had its origin at FES-Zaragoza, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where most of the editors
freely discussed ideas about ecology of arid and semi-arid ecosystems in general and ecology of arbuscular
mycorrhizae in particular. At that time, we considered that there was a gap in the ecological role of
arbuscular mycorrhiza in desert ecosystems and that a first book synthesizing the information on mycorrhizal
symbiosis in these ecosystems was badly needed. From the origin of the idea until completion of this book, we
benefited from the help of many people. We are very grateful to the authors and co-authors for producing such
high-quality chapters, for tolerating our multiple demands and for their patience until the publication of the
book. We want to thank all reviewers who, with their anonymous work, assured the excellent quality of all the
chapters.
We thank Maribel Flores Estrada, Roberto Ramos González, Genaro Ochoa de la Rosa, Susana Adriana
Montaño Arias, Cesar González Monterrubio, Raúl Ahedo and Heberto Ferreira who contributed in many ways
to the completion of this book. We wish to thank Leonor Solís Rojas who provided excellent photographic
material used for cover illustration. Also, we thank Rosalva García-Sánchez, Alejandra Hernández, Mariano
García-Díaz, Carolina Jiménez and Sara L. Camargo-Ricalde who provided excellent photographic material on
spores of arbuscular micorrhizae. We specially want to thank Ramón Reverté and Judith Sandoval (Mundi
Prensa SA de CV), Raúl Marcó del Pont (Instituto Nacional de Ecología-México), Francisco Flores Pedroche
and Miguel Ángel Armella Villalpando (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa, México), Manuel Rico
Bernal, Esther M. García-Amador and Alfredo Sánchez Figueroa (FES Zaragoza, UNAM) as well as to both
Academia de Ecología and Carrera de Biología in FES Zaragoza-UNAM for their excellent work on the edition
of this book. Finally, we are very grateful to Robert M. Augé (Institute of Agriculture, University of Tennessee
USA) and Francisco Javier Álvarez Sánchez (Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM) for the presentation of this book.
N.M. Montaño acknowledges DGEP-UNAM and Fundación-TELMEX for scholarships to elaborate this book.
