ALTO AL TRÁFICO ILÍCITO
DEL PATRIMONIO CULTURAL
En América Latina, el saqueo de sitios arqueológicos
y los robos en los museos y edificios religiosos
siguen causando pérdidas irreparables al patrimonio
del continente y de la humanidad. Los objetos se sustraen
inescrupulosamente de su contexto histórico para satisfacer
la creciente demanda internacional de antigüedades.
Confrontada a esta situación de emergencia, la comunidad
internacional de profesionales del patrimonio (1) ha establecido
una Lista Roja de bienes culturales latinoamericanos en
peligro para contribuir a frenar el comercio ilícito
de bienes culturales.
Esta lista contiene 25 ejemplos de categorías específicas
de patrimonio cultural precolombino y colonial que son
sistemáticamente saqueadas en América Latina y para las
que existe una demanda considerable en el mercado ilegal
de antigüedades.
Todas las categorías de objetos de la Lista Roja están*
protegidas por la ley, su exportación está prohibida*
y no pueden, bajo ninguna circunstancia, ser importadas*
o puestas a la venta. La Lista Roja es un llamado a los*
museos, casas de subastas, comerciantes de arte*
y coleccionistas para que dejen de comprar estos objetos.*
La Lista Roja también está hecha para ayudar a los agentes
de aduanas, a la policía y a los negociantes de arte a identificar
dichos objetos.
Esta es una lista de los tipos de objetos provenientes
de América Latina que corren mayor peligro de ser robados.
No es de ningún modo exhaustiva.Tomando en cuenta
la gran variedad de objetos, estilos y períodos, todas
las antigüedades provenientes de América Latina deberían
considerarse como bienes de origen sospechoso.
(1) Esta Lista Roja fue establecida por un grupo de 60 profesionales
de los museos y del patrimonio provenientes de América y Europa. Este
taller, celebrado en Bogotá en Abril de 2002, fue organizado conjuntamente
por el ICOM y el Ministerio de Cultura de Colombia.

IN HERITAGE
In Latin America, looting of archaeological sites and
thefts from museums and religious edifices are inflicting
irreparable damage on the heritage of the continent
and of mankind as a whole. Objects are being wantonly
removed from their historical context to satisfy the growing
international demand for antiquities.
Faced with an emergency situation, the international
community of heritage professionals (1) has drawn up a Red
List of Latin-American Cultural Objects at Risk to help put
a stop to the illicit trade in cultural property.
This list contains 25 examples of specific pre-Columbian
and Colonial heritage categories which are systematically
looted throughout Latin America and are in great demand
on the illegal antiquities market.
All the categories of object in the Red List are protected*
by legislation and banned from export, and may under*
no circumstances be imported or put on sale.The Red List*
is an appeal to museums, auction houses, art dealers and*
collectors not to acquire these objects.*
The Red List is also designed to help customs officials, police
officers and art dealers to identify them.
This is a list of the types of object from Latin America
which are particularly at risk and most likely to be stolen.
It is in no way exhaustive. Because of the tremendous
variety of objects, styles, and periods, any antiquity from
Latin America should be viewed with suspicion.
(1) This Red List was drawn up by a group of 60 heritage and museum
professionals from America and Europe at a workshop which took place
in Bogota in April 2002 and was jointly organized by ICOM and the
Colombian Ministry of Culture.
