Nesta óptica, considera-se relevante o fomento da diversidade da composição e estrutura dos ecossistemas agrários, pela influência favorável que tal diversidade poderá ter na acção dos organismos auxiliares. Com o presente estudo pretendeuse contribuir para avaliar o efeito da criação de manchas de vegetação produtora de flores na fauna auxiliar do olival. O estudo decorreu em 2003, num olival de sequeiro, com cerca de 80 anos, no qual não eram realizados tratamentos fitossanitários há vários anos, e situado na Freguesia de Valbom dos Figos, concelho de Mirandela. No seu âmbito analisou-se a influência, sobre a fauna auxiliar do olival, da existência de manchas de vegetação obtidas quer por sementeira de trigo-sarraceno, (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench), quer pela manutenção de vegetação espontânea, em comparação com uma testemunha com o solo nu. A avaliação dos resultados fez-se por amostragens semanais, realizadas entre Maio e Julho, num total de onze, através de armadilhas cromotrópicas amarelas. No total capturaram-se 3542 insectos, dos quais 1057 (29,8%) na testemunha, 1135 (32,0%) na modalidade com trigo-sarraceno e 1351 (38,1%) na modalidade com vegetação espontânea. Durante o período de floração da vegetação, 55,6% da amostra obteve-se na modalidade com trigo-sarraceno e 46,1% na modalidade com vegetação espontânea. Verificou-se ainda, que a ordem de insectos mais representativa foi a Hymenoptera, sub-ordem Apócrita, seguindo-se a ordem Coleoptera, família Coccinellidae.
