El psicrómetro en un barco <strong>de</strong>berá estar bien ventilado, <strong>para</strong> que el aire que ro<strong>de</strong>a al termómetro húmedo sea renovado constantemente. En caso contrario la evaporación se irá haciendo más lenta a medida que el aire confinado en el espacio cercano se vaya saturando y los datos que leeremos no serán los correctos. Para facilitar esta ventilación antiguamente en los barcos se recurría a un psicrómetro sujeto por un extremo a un cabo, llamado psicrómetro honda, el cual se hacía girar durante unos segundos <strong>para</strong> <strong>de</strong>spués tomar la lectura <strong>de</strong>l termómetro húmedo o al psicrómetro <strong>de</strong> carraca que en lugar <strong>de</strong> ca<strong>de</strong>na llevaba una especie <strong>de</strong> carraca que se hacía girar. Una vez conocidas las lecturas <strong>de</strong> ambos termómetros y mediante unas tablas construidas al efecto y que generalmente suelen ir sobre el mismo soporte <strong>de</strong> psicrómetro, se obtiene fácilmente tanto la humedad relativa como la temperatura <strong>de</strong>l punto <strong>de</strong> rocío, bastando entrar en ellas con la lectura <strong>de</strong>l termómetro seco y la diferencia <strong>de</strong> este y el húmedo. EJEMPLO: Supongamos un psicrómetro cuyos termómetros indican las siguientes temperaturas: —termómetro seco = 25°C —termómetro húmedo = 23°C La diferencia <strong>de</strong> temperaturas es (25° - 23°) = 2°C Entrando en la tabla vemos que la humedad relativa es <strong>de</strong> 83% y que la temperatura <strong>de</strong>l punto <strong>de</strong> rocío es <strong>de</strong> 22°C 2.5. NUBES Las nubes po<strong>de</strong>mos <strong>de</strong>cir que son el resultado <strong>de</strong> una serie <strong>de</strong> elementos o causas tanto dinámicas como termodinámicas que ocurren en la atmósfera. Así como ciertos movimientos <strong>de</strong>l aire tien<strong>de</strong>n a formarlas otras las disipan <strong>de</strong> igual manera. Las nubes se forman al ascen<strong>de</strong>r el aire cargado más o menos <strong>de</strong> humedad y enfriarse por <strong>de</strong>bajo <strong>de</strong> su punto <strong>de</strong> rocío, la masa <strong>de</strong> aire entonces se satura, el vapor <strong>de</strong> agua se con<strong>de</strong>nsa en pequeñísimas gotitas y <strong>de</strong>bido al diminuto tamaño se mantienen flotando en el aire durante cierto tiempo antes <strong>de</strong> precipitarse al suelo o evaporarse <strong>de</strong> nuevo. Este proceso comienza, cuando una masa <strong>de</strong> aire es obligada a elevarse por causas térmicas o dinámicas. El aire al ascen<strong>de</strong>r se expan<strong>de</strong> y por lo tanto, se enfría y cuando este enfriamiento alcanza el nivel <strong>de</strong> con<strong>de</strong>nsación, es <strong>de</strong>cir, su punto <strong>de</strong> rocío, el vapor <strong>de</strong> agua contenido en dicha masa se <strong>de</strong>posita sobre unas partículas sólidas <strong>de</strong> tamaño diminuto, llamadas núcleos <strong>de</strong> con<strong>de</strong>nsación, formándose las gotas <strong>de</strong> agua. Alcanzada esta altura la temperatura <strong>de</strong> la masa <strong>de</strong> aire está bastante fría, es <strong>de</strong>cir esta pesada <strong>de</strong>teniéndose poco a poco su ascenso, permaneciendo la nube a esta altura. Resumiendo po<strong>de</strong>mos <strong>de</strong>cir que las nubes se forman en presencia <strong>de</strong> corrientes verticales ascen<strong>de</strong>ntes y <strong>de</strong>saparecen en presencia <strong>de</strong> corrientes verticales 289
