CLIPPING INTERNACIONAL (Supreme Court)
Clock ticks for Alabama immigration law
revisions
Tomorrow is the last day of Alabama’s legislative
session, and proposed changes to the state’s
controversial immigration law are still up in the air.Sen.
Scott Beason, R-Gardendale, and Rep. Micky
Hammon, R-Decatur, have each proposed
amendments to the bill in an attempt to make it more
business friendly and able to withstand judicial
scrutiny.However, Beason’s proposal would leave
more of the law intact. As the clock winds down, some
legislators are looking to halt the revisions, preferring
to wait until the U.S. Supreme Court rules on
Arizona’s similar legislation before making any
changes.“I feel we need to wait for the Supreme Court
to rule and then develop something the state can live
with (legally),” Sen. Gerald Allen, R-Cottondale, told
the Tuscaloosa News.
