The first page of all the articles quoted<br />
in the references must be submitted.<br />
o Illustrations<br />
Tables and figures must be restricted to<br />
essentials, without exceeding ten (units of graphic<br />
reproduction). Quality must be excellent.<br />
The size of the illustration in our Journal<br />
may have 80 mm wi<strong>de</strong> (one column) or 167<br />
mm (two columns). The illustrations sent by the<br />
author must have at least the same width up<br />
to a maximum of 210 x 297 mm. If this size is<br />
excee<strong>de</strong>d, the author must consi<strong>de</strong>r the visibility<br />

of <strong>de</strong>tails after a size reduction.<br />
The reverse of each illustration must<br />
bear a label with an ID number following the<br />
or<strong>de</strong>r of appearance in the text and an arrow<br />
pointing upwards. The cost of colour illustrations<br />
will be chargeable to the author after obtaining<br />
his/her consent.<br />
The illustration captions or footnotes<br />
must be inclu<strong>de</strong>d on a separate page, numbered in<br />
sequential or<strong>de</strong>r, briefly explaining the illustration<br />
contents and the meaning of any symbols or<br />
abbreviations. The histological illustrations shall<br />
mention the type of reproduction and whether it<br />
is a dye, as well as method and enlargement.<br />
If using graphic materials of another<br />
author, his/her written consent must be<br />
attached. If i<strong>de</strong>ntifiable, the people appearing<br />
in the illustrations must provi<strong>de</strong> their written<br />
authorisation and, in the case of persons un<strong>de</strong>r<br />
age, this consent must be signed by their legal<br />
representatives. Said authorisations must be<br />
attached to the submission.<br />
For colour illustrations, when obtained<br />
from photographic sli<strong>de</strong>s, the original sli<strong>de</strong> must<br />
be attached together with two copies on paper,<br />
or three copies on paper, or three sli<strong>de</strong>s. Three<br />
sets shall be sent in black and white.<br />
o Illustrations footnotes<br />
These must be typed using double<br />
space on a separate page, with a maximum length<br />
of 40 words per figure. The text must allow an<br />
un<strong>de</strong>rstanding of the illustration without having<br />
to read the article text.<br />
Each table must have a title and<br />
sequential number according to its or<strong>de</strong>r of<br />
inclusion in the text. Each column must have a<br />
heading. When using symbols, their or<strong>de</strong>r or<br />
appearance must be as follows: *, †, ‡, §, , #, **.<br />
The meaning thereof must be explained in the<br />
table footnotes. Abbreviations shall be explained<br />
in the footnote after the symbols. Please use<br />
abbreviations which are commonly known and<br />
wi<strong>de</strong>ly used in ophthalmologic literature.<br />
• Brief notes<br />
These must be succinct manuscripts<br />
<strong>de</strong>scribing technical innovations,<br />
clinicalpathological correlations and clinical cases.<br />
Previously published information is exclu<strong>de</strong>d.<br />
The or<strong>de</strong>r to follow is: I<strong>de</strong>ntification<br />
[ 7 ]
