The theme of the CIAC’09 Symposium is:
The effects of environmental variability
on cephalopod populations.
With their short life cycles cephalopods
respond rapidly to environmental variability
and this can have dramatic consequences
for marine food webs. The
recent increase in the Dosidicus gigas
stock in the eastern Pacific and its
impact on hake stocks being a good
example. Other stocks showing very
large variations with environment include
the Illex spp and Todarodes pacificus.
Furthermore, as increasing environmental
variability is a function of climate
change, understanding the effects of
variability provides insight into the larger
impacts of global climate change.
Oral and posters presentations on:
Cephalopod Systematics, Biogeography
9
and Biodiversity, Genetics, Assessment
and Management and Life History will be
also welcome.
Symposium dates: 6-9 September 2009
The symposium will be preceded (3-4
September) by three workshops:
i) Recent advances in age, growth and
production estimations in cephalopods
ii) Cephalopod trophic relationships
iii) Review of the ecology of cephalopod
pelagic wild paralarvae
The workshops vill comprise of round
table discussions and oral presentations
on each issue.
