Usually it is a combination of different criteria that guides decisions. In the
end, some decisions will remain open for criticism, according to the different
weighing that might be given to one or the other criterion.
Summing up, it is needless to say that harmonisation might help solve
and remove terminological inconsistencies a posteriori. The lesson to be
learnt from the experience of the Alpine Convention is rather that the only
sustainable strategy for the balanced and correct drafting of multilingual
texts is far­sighted linguistic planning with a thorough contrastive terminological
analysis.
